Now, this was a recommendation from a friend and I must say this was quite a delicious little restaurant in Shotton Collery. We went for the Sunday Dinner, obviously the had quite a good selection and not just pork, also lamb,chicken, beef with all the goodies 😊. I had the lamb Sunday dinner and my misses had the beef one, both melt in your mouth honestly! Also the deserts are too die fooooor🤤🤤!!! We really want to go to during the week to check out the other goodies as on Sunday they only serve Sunday Dinner as it is the English tradition 🙂. Also we paid 33£ for 2 main courses, 2 deserts and 1 starter which is really good if you ask me. Good food, good service, will definitely recommend!

We came to the george sat 5th sept at 4.00pm,for my mams birthday.we were greeted by andrew and Aaron who gave us a table and got us drinks straight away.
The lads were great as always and took some pictures for us so we could all be in.
The food at the George is just absolutely amazing such quick service,always so fresh and piping hot.
What I love about this place is all the staff are so happy and friendly make you feel like your in your own home.
We also got a lovely surprise when andrew bought a free bottle of procecco over for my mam,she was absolutely over the moon.thanks again for your impeccable service,would highly recommended

As our regular Sunday Lunch haunt is closed for refurbishment, we decided to venture out and try new pastures.
A work colleague sang the pubs praises after a recent visit so we decided to try for ourselves.
On entering the pub, you immediately feel the warmliness of the place. Smiling friendly staff popped us into the bar as our table was not quite ready.
We were then called for and shown into the dining area which also has a warm cosy ambiance about it. One thing I loved was the low lighting in our seating area, a personal favourite of mine.
The menu offered a selection of starters, a good choice of roasts plus other options for those wishing to try something other than the traditional roast.
I went for the Pork, my partner opted for the beef.
The dinner arrived quite quickly, a hot plate with our meat, roasties, mash and gravy. The veg arrived separately and consisted of pureed turnip, mushy peas and a selection of vegetables in a turine.
The veg was lovely and fresh and cooked to perfection. One slight gripe from the Mrs was the veg was drizzled with a Stilton sauce....perfect for me but not so for the boss. Perhaps it should be served in a separate pourer, just a helpful comment.
We both enjoyed our lunch and said we would definitely revisit.

Actually really disappointed with my experience tonight. Came in with a group and ordered food. Great covid guidelines in place and warm welcome etc.
I ordered a masala curry which tasted ok however eating my curry I came across bones from the chicken. We didn’t get a check back; but asked about our food after everyone had ate, I had mentioned the fact I had bones in the curry. Too this he said he would take the meal off the bill (I didn’t ask for it to be taken off the bill and would have payed towards the naan and rice I ate.) Anyway, one of the group members had payed and didn’t get the 25% off their bill. We then had our bill which was again incorrect; as their were items on there we had not had, my curry remained on the menu which i had to pay for.
So unfortunately not a great experience at all! Gave two starts because service was ok and everyone enjoyed their parmos.

Ordered sirloin which is on the menu as “gold label” so expected something special. When it arrived It was really difficult to cut it even with the steak knife. The bits I did manage to cut I had to spit into a tissue as it was inedible. I understand it could be a bad cut of meat but when the waiter came to take it away I told him it was tough and inedible. All he could say was I’m really sorry. When the bill came I was charged £17 for the meal of which I ate two onion rings and a few chips. There was no offer of reduced payment. This is shocking customer service.

After a delightful meal, and evening spent in the bar partaking ale in the bar on Friday 9th Oct in a totally safe COVID-19 environment, we looked forward with enthusiasm to repeating the experience last night. Oh how disappointing we found it. Our order, from the light bites menu, for fish, chips and peas and roast of the day was promptly taken but after an hour had still not been served. Meanwhile 2 other couples who arrived after us were served their meals. My husband enquired at the bar as to where our meals actually were and having gone past had gone the hunger stage cancelled his order. He was told that they were waiting to be served in the kitchen. Pretty poor service not one I’d care to experience again. And the staff didn’t bother checking back whether my meal was satisfactory.

Have visited this place loads of times over the years and had some great meals with super service. Visited today with my partner and family and had the worst meal and service I have had in years. After waiting over an hour for 4 hot beef sandwiches it arrived looking like it had just been thrown on the plate. Very poor both in looks and taste considering we had visited in June and ordered exactly the same thing and the meal was fantastic. Not sure if the place has changed hands but avoid at all costs . Will not be paying another visit and I will advice others to go to other places in the area.

Steven, I am a little shocked at your review as i have gone through all the orders and there was not an order for 4 hot beef sandwiches yesterday, I have also checked the cctv and no table waited more than 30 minutes for their food, also every table had a check back and no complaints were made from anyone yesterday. I would be grateful if you could give us a call and give me some more information.

I would love to give a review of the Sunday lunch however never actually got one!! Arrived 20 minutes before booking at 15.00 informed bar staff had arrived and took drinks outside my husband then returned to bar order another drink asked about our table for 2was told not yet ready this was then after booking time.In the meantime there was several different parties waiting outside for their tables and one party was told that there maybe a shortage of some foods on menu. So taking all this into account obviously a lot of the people waiting were booked in for 15.00 and still waiting at this point at least 30 minutes and nothing seemed to be moving I went into bar and told a member of the bar staff I would just cancel our meal he just said sorry and that was it.!So never actually got a meal. We have had several actual meals here and it is our 'go to place' as it is local to us but this has totally put us off luckily on this occasion it wasn't some sort of family celebration because this would have made it even worse.. It would seem they had either overbooked or not had enough staff either way it would have been much better to be told when making booking that it was full rather than turn up to this disorganized chaos. We ended going home and ordering a takeaway later which did turn up and was very nice but this had really spoilt our day.

Sunday we had issues with our fridges, they couldn’t keep up with the heat. This was a first for the staff that were working and In my opinion they dealt with the situation in the best way that they could, I am sorry that you didn’t get your lunch unfortunately we couldn’t foresee the issues we had on Sunday, everyone that was affected by our problems on Sunday have been invited back for a free meal.

Our group (sometimes up to 25 people) have been meeting and eating every month for nearly 15 years and have had some poor, mediocre or average experiences at restaurants across Durham, North Yorkshire. Teesside and occasionally Yorkshire Dales. Today's meal was excellent - in terms of variety of menu, service, temperature of food, and price. We aimed to eat at 1pm and were served on cue.

A really lovely meal. Out with Dad and Step Mam and can not fault anything. The food was spot on (I had the ribeye steak) the service was good and my step mam’s dietary requirements were catered for without any issue (she can be very fussy). The only reason I haven’t given it full marks is because the drinks were a little slow. However, the manager apologised for this and was so charming it was nearly forgiven! Well done the team at the George!

Has been highly recommend by friends so took my family today for Sunday dinner. Drinks were taken as soon as we were seated and order taken soon after. Menu was very basic without any real detail.
Starters came out quickly, but wasn’t a great start for quality. Prawn cocktail was served on a bed of bitter lettuce leaf, with very little seafood sauce, not a great combination. Garlic Mushrooms came in a bowl covered in a cheese sauce, Not what I was expecting. Then waited 25 mins for mains to arrive, which isn’t an issue but waiting that long I would have expected the main dinners to be freshly cooked. The Yorkshire Puddings were solid, you could snap them in half and they crumbled, the vegetable bowl had clearly been heated up in the microwave as some carrots were hot and others freezing cold, both which were sent back. Was going to be a 20 minute wait for fresh Yorkshire puddings, so straight away my Sunday dinner was spoilt. The veg was bland, potato and turnip not properly mashed with chunks inside. I must say the meat was fantastic, I had Lamb and was melt in the mouth, so at least the chef has done something right. My daughter had carbonara, this was full of mushrooms, again this detail was not in the menu, and ended up picking every mushroom out of her bowl. Another dinner spoilt. The staff were great, very apologetic but the food should never have been delivered to the table as it was for such highly rated restaurant. Very disappointed

Food was good although would have expected vegetables with my main course. Service deteriorated after main course. Half dishes cleared and then 20 minutes before rest of table cleared and offered dessert menu. By the time someone came to take dessert order no one wanted one. Then had to ask twice for the bill. Can't understand why it took so long as by then the place wasn't busy. Left a tip but probably shouldn't have.

We visited last night, table for 2 at 6-15. Ordered a large glass of Pino & a pint of golden ale. Menu was brought & decided on starters of tomato & coriander soup, black pudding with a poached egg & whole grain mustard sauce. Mains, surf & turf linguine & ribeye steak, absolutely delicious! Cost £34. Excellent 👍👌

We booked a table here for 7.30 this evening, we called and arranged to go over early and actually arrived just after 7. We got there and waited a few minutes for out table then, then waited until 7.30 for anbody to come and take our order. Once we ordered we were told it would be a bit of a wait for food so we assumed maybe 30 minutes which was fine, we actually received our food at 8.40 in which time nobody came to give us an update or check that we were OK, and once it came out it was nothing special. It was a ridiculous time to wait considering the place emptied out by the time we were served, and they didn't even acknowledge the waiting time. Won't be booking in here agin

First visit since covid. Last time was there the fish was dusgusting. Thought would try again. Glass had lipstick on, then asked for bitter lemon and got a tonic water. Chips were overdone and the fish was more batter than anything and that wasn't even tasy. Vinegar came in a mini jug so difficult to add. Went with friends do they have lost a lot of future custom.
