Great reviews, from friends and acquaintances, drew us to Babette’s. Needless to say, it lived up to all the hype or I wouldn’t bother wring a review. Our reservation was at 3:15pm - because we were 2 days late on making a reservation based on...their 21 day reservation cycle. The Japanese whisky old fashioned was unique and smooth (I’d try that again), and the Champaign Smash (gin / Champaign…) was just as good. We ordered sourdough bread and butter in addition to shrimp scampi and a wedge salad as appetizers. The shrimp were BIG, buttery and HOT. The mains were aged NY Strip and filet mignon with truffle mac & cheese and roasted brussels sprouts. The steaks were cooked to perfection based on our varied request. The brussels sprouts were good, but the mac & cheese may have been the best I’ve ever tried - creamy, not too savory. Dessert consisted of chocolate pie with cream. The semi-sweet cream offset the rich, dark chocolate pie, and a cappuccino only enhanced it all. I’d definitely eat here again.More

Loved the drinks, atmosphere and food! The wedge salad is the best wedge we’ve ever had. Homemade ranch dressing with fresh herbs, peppercorns and bacon. The bacon was thick, more like pork belly, with an excellent flavor. I had the bone-in filet and my husband...had the rib eye. The filet was better in our opinion. If you’re a fan of mushrooms, order them! They come with French fried onions served on top. The food is very rich so just know that going in. It was fabulous on a blustery, cold Chicago Friday night. Can’t wait to go back!More

Bavette's never disappoints! The food and drinks are incredible and consistently on point. Some of our favorites and not to be missed: Bacon, Wedge Salad, French Dip, Short Rib Stroganoff, Truffle Mac & Cheese, and of course the steaks are delicious and always cooked to...perfection. Our favorite drinks are the Bavette's Punch and Tokyo Old Fashioned, although you can't go wrong as they're all well-made and balanced.More

The restaurant has nice ambiance & decor, but the food was just ok. Based on the reviews, we expected so much better. The shrimp scampi was too spicy & the butter it was cooked in had too much lemon in it. The goat cheese had...some sort of honey mixed in with it, which ruined the goat cheese taste for me. The crab avocado salad was just ok. For entrees, I ordered the prime beef sandwich. It was just ok. My husband ordered the wagu NY strip steak. That was good. For sides, the mushrooms were really good, but you can’t eat too much of it because it is very rich/heavy. The truffle Mac & cheese was good, but again very creamy/heavy so you can’t eat too much of it. Perhaps we should have tried the seafood.More

Family trip to Chicago and this was on the top of our list to try. It certainly didn’t disappoint. As soon as you walk in, you are transported by the beautiful ambiance. Every staff member was so kind, professional, and helpful. You can feel the...pride of the food. We ordered the sourdough, roasted chicken, dutches cut tenderloin, asparagus, mushrooms, & chocolate pie. Everything was outstanding and huge portions! The mushrooms might have even been the favourite, if you can believe it! My steak was a bit under what I ordered (medium well) and they were so kind and professional in fixing that for me very quickly. As well, they brought a delicious gelato and hot fudge on the house for celebrating a birthday. Thanks Bavette’s!More

I visited Chicago to celebrate my sons 26th birthday and this was his choice for a special dinner. I got a reservation 21 days beforehand at exactly 9am and was lucky to secure a 6:45 table in the bar area, which was a dimly lit...special spot downstairs. We loved it! We started with some sourdough and the most amazing peppered bacon with roasted tomato and watercress salad! If I couldve eaten this salad as an entree I wouldve been happy. It went great with the wine and espresso martini we ordered. For entrees, my daughter and I both had the lobster frites, which was superb..the bernaise sauce complemented the lobster perfectly and the fries were delish too. My son had his first experience with a wagyu bone in NY strip steak, which he absolutely loved. He also had the asparagus and fries. For dessert, out lovely server overheard it was my sons birthday and brought over some ice cream with a candle which was so nice, but we also ordered an absolutely huge ice cream sundae that had every candy and topping imaginable, and we also got the carrot cake. All were amazing. The service was great and loved the vibe. One of my favorite meals of all time! It was pricey..over $500 for the three of us, but you get what you pay for!! Will return next time I am in town.More

This restaurant lives up to the hype! I had the petite duchess cut of filet mignon, creamed spinach and truffle Mac and cheese. The food was delicious - steak was cooked just the way I like (medium rare), creamed spinach was tasty, and the Mac...and cheese is probably the BEST I’ve ever had, wow. The Bavette’s punch cocktail was also delicious - you cannot taste the booze in that drink, you’ve been warned! Service was also very good - my server was really nice and friendly even though she was very busy, and my food and drinks came out in a timely fashion. The vibe is also very cool - think speakeasy jazz vibes (they were playing jazz in the dining room). It was like entering another world. I would gladly dine here again when in Chicago.More

We found that a table for two at this incredible restaurant was difficult to come by, but even logging onto the website ahead of time and trying to get a prime dinner time, we missed it. We were able to get a later dinner time...and just adjusted our schedule to fit this time and we are so glad we did. An experience not to be missed! Delicious food and drinks, service and setting. My husband and I celebrated our 54th anniversary at Bavette's last night. Absolutely the best choice we could have made! We opted for a high top in the bar area, even though there were a few last-minute tables available. We like the bar vibe wherever...we go. So happy we did this; it's got fantastic ambience, and our server Nicki was top notch - the perfect blend of friendly yet professional and efficient. She mixed our cocktails - to order - to perfection. She also answered questions about the menu knowledgeably and honestly. Menu, you ask? Amazing meal! We started with a selection of oysters (Nicki's choices were spot on), and shrimp scampi. Then moved on to the bone-in ribeye and short rib stroganoff, both excellent. We were much too full for dessert, but were presented with a lovely sundae as a treat for our celebration. All in all we couldn't have asked for a nicer evening, thanks to all at Bavette's!More

Last year in July when I made a reservation at Bavette's Bar & Boeuf dinner in September I noted the occasion was for my birthday, which was a week before my reservation. On the eve before the Cal-Notre Dame game I came here to eat...at 4:30PM. Since I was leaving early to San Francisco the following Sunday morning I felt eating at Bavette's would most likely be my final dinner in Chicago. My favorite steak is the tomahawk however if I'm going to different types of steakhouse I try to order something unique to that steakhouse. For Bavette's that would be the Classic Ribeye - Chicago Cut. I thought about ordering two more items like roasted bone marrow and button mushrooms, but I was worried that I wouldn't enjoy my steak if I ordered too many items. I asked my server Kipp. He stated the portions at Bavette's tend to be big and recommended one more item would be fine. I ordered the button mushrooms, which is the side order that Kipp recommended. I always believe when you go to a restaurant to eat if there is an item that has the name of the restaurant then order it. For a cocktail I ordered the Bavettes Punch. I'm a sucker for hot bread at restaurants. The bread that was served at Bavette's was the warm sourdough bread. The sourdough bread at Bavette's had that slightly charred crust with a warm moist in the middle. As someone who was born in San Francisco the sourdough bread at Bavette's has my seal of approval. Not only did I get the button mushrooms, but also got the garlic mashed potatoes, which Kipp complimented for my birthday. Kipp was correct that the portions at Bavette's were big. I was worried if I would be able to finish both side orders along with the ribeye. A great steak has to have three colors - brown on the outside crust, grey underneath the crust, and red in the middle. The ribeye at Bavette's has all those components. The mark of a great ribeye is the fat cap outside. The ribeye at Bavette's had that fatty outside along with the buttery texture in the middle. While eating I began to get the "meat sweats" but I only ordered one meat dish. The combination of consuming the ribeye along with the two side orders took a toll on me. Even though I was grateful I wish that my server Kipp did not give me a compliment side order of the garlic mashed potatoes. How do you resolve "meat sweats"? I decided to order another cocktail this time a Patis Pearl. The drink helped a lot as I was able to finish the side orders. As crazy as this sounds, I stopped sweating when I drank the Patis Pearl. For my last dinner in Chicago I really enjoyed my meal at Bavette's Bar and & Beouf. If I come back here I will order a different type of steak yet I will order the button mushrooms again. Also I will try to get the bone marrow. However there's a possibility I will not travel to Chicago again. If that is the case at least Bavette's Bar & Beouf left a great impression for me during my first time in Chicago.More

decided to come our last night in Chicago. Our dinner was interrupted by my fiancé getting very sick after his second drink here. He said I feel like he had been drugged. He could barely lift his fork and knife to even try to eat....He had a hard time walking and talking and he looked like he was out of it. Unfortunately we ended up leaving and spent the evening in the ER.More

Dined late night in a Wednesday evening to celebrate anniversary. Busy for a weeknight at 10:30pm. Had to wait to be seated. Decor is still steakhouse dark and classy with refined wood and cozy booths. Dined here before and the food remains in excellent. Ribeye,...corn, spinach, stuffed avocado and home made bread all delicious. Steak cooked to perfection. Sides hot and delicious. Portions are good. Ordered one full meal and able to share. Wine selection very good. Had a great half bottle Zinfandel. Service is excellent. Attentive, friendly and timely. Really enjoyed our late night dinner.More

We had planned carefully to dine at Bavette’s when visiting our daughter for the first time in Chicago. The food and atmosphere were outstanding!! We had delicious steaks; I had the small filet, my husband had a larger one; they were cooked to perfection. They...were as good as any dry aged beef we’ve ever had, and this was the regular steak. The salads and sides were delicious also. We ordered the peppered bacon they many have included in reviews. We loved it! We were glad to get a reservation. It can be hard at times to get in, but we tried the tip we had been given. Go on the Resy app.(think it was 21 days out) at 9 am. I think when she tried, it told her that reservations were open the next day. She went online at 9am the next day and got the reservation in the downstairs parlor which was great. The upstairs was not available for 7:00, but it didn’t matter. We enjoyed the atmosphere! In reviews, some said it was too dark, but we didn’t find it a problem. Our server was great and answered any questions we had. It was a wonderful evening!! I would love to return!More

We had a lovely Saturday night dinner here on the patio. We went early as we did not have a reservation, and a patio table was available immediately. We started with the bread and wedge salad and a Bavette punch and Old Fashioned. Entrees were...the stroganoff which was a pinch sweeter than expected and the steak frites with mashed potatoes and brussels on the side. Everything was delicious! We'll order a bit differently next time but enjoyed this meal!More
