I was really looking forward to this place as I had heard such great things and after driving across the US via route 66 this was a place we visited to signify the end of our epic journey The place wasn't bad, its just wasn't great either, the food was average, the chicken was so crispy it was almost hard... Great for breakfast. Went after the Chicago auto show. They have everything including homemade breads and pastries. Place is old but great since 1923.

Very cool place to go. Definitely set back in time. You are greeted with a delicious donut. The seating is tight but intimate. The decor is a step back into time. Lou Mitchell's is really a "blast from the past." The service is very good. The menu is large and has a lot to offer. The food was good diner... More

Whenever we take train trip out of Union Station, we always have breakfast at Lou Mitchells. My husband loves the cheddar cheese omelet that comes with apples on top and I enjoy their waffles. The donut holes as you enter the restaurant, the box of milk duds for the ladies, and the soft serve ice cream when you complete your... More

I was there early in the morning and was desperately seeking coffee and a warm filling meal. Both of which were excellent and were served by a friendly staff. I had the feeling that they know the regulars really well but they were nice to everyone. I had the Belgian Waffle. I tried 3 different toppings and my favorite was... More

When I think of a cozy diner, one where the you catch the whiff of coffee and fries/pastries when you enter, and one where the waitresses are matronly, I think of Lou Mitchell's. There is a reason why this place is an "establishment" and it is more than just the culmination of its history. Reasonably priced menus and the classic... More

Went for lunch and the sandwiches were great - good portions. Also ordered an omelette (their specialty among several) and it also had that home cooked taste. On the west side of the Chicago River but an easy walk from Financial District

This down home coffee shop is the best place for breakfast. The fresh donut holes as you enter are perfect! Quick, friendly service too!

Lucky for us that Lou Mitchell's was within walking distance of our hotel! This place is a part of Chicago history and is also located right near the beginning of the famed US Route 66! The four of us had awesome breakfasts, it was great just looking around the restaurant and imagining some of the historic visitors who had partaken... More
