Merlo on Maple was suggested by a friend. After reviewing the menu online, we decided to make reservations. We both chose the house salad which paled in comparison to other dining experiences we have had. Our main courses were expensive, the presentation was unappetizing, and our server did not inquire about our dissatisfaction with the meal. How does one put... More

My friends and I were treated to the front table by the window. My friends especially liked the homemade pasta. Our salads were also good. My Fritto de Pesche was OK - but nothing super special. Service was great as always.

The dinner at Merlot on Maple was a great, quiet, romantic dinner for our anniversary. The options for dining in Chicago are far from just a few few, and this place, depending on the occasion, is a great option for a quiet dinner with your spouse or with a group of people. The atmosphere is intimate and the service is... More

As soon as you walk up the stars and entered the door… you feel warm atmosphere of this Italian restaurant. The host Gian Paolo and Silvia the Chef will welcome you in their two floors place really well decorated. The food is home made and is genuine real Italian food with original recipes from Bologna, their home town. You will... More

Our last 5 trips to Chicago have included dinner at Merlot on Maple. We find this an oasis in the middle of a sea of corporate restaurants and Chop houses. Staff is always attentive and food is superb. We mostly dine on the specials and the ingredients are always fresh and tasty. We've eaten on all floors and find each... More

Whenever we are in Chicago, we dine at this wonderful restaurant, which is situated in a brownstone. The dining room on the second floor is most inviting. The menu is varied so that we shared the buffalo mozzarella and then a delightful pasta. The seafood mista is equally wonderful, as was our waiter.

On a whim we took the recommendation of a friendly retail clerk. Whoops. The ratings on Trip Advisor and Yelp weren't great but we tried anyway. Most guests were drunk, very drunk. Loud. Annoying. We couldn't talk to each other at the table. It was only 8pm! Rude guests basically had a cocktail party at our table. The owner tried... More

Like dining in someone's brownstone, at least that's how it felt on a Wednesday night in this easy to reach place near Rush and Division. The wine list is reasonable, with some interesting Pinot Neros from up near Austria, but definitely Italian wines. My wife's fig and prosciutto appetizer was terrific, as was my delicious and delicate egg plant. We... More

Our experience at Mero on Maple was great. We were the first guests to arrive for dinner and were seated downstairs in a very romantic private room. Unfortunately, it was raining very hard that day causing water to come in and we moved upstairs. Even though we didn't get to stay in the beautiful dining room, our new location was... More

Neighbourhood Profile
Gold Coast
Located just north of The Loop, Gold Coast is one of Chicago’s most affluent and popular neighborhoods. The original Playboy, Hugh Hefner, once had a mansion here. In addition to prestigious hotels, historic mansions and luxury high-rise apartments, you’ll also find upscale specialty boutiques and Michelin-starred restaurants. Walk along Oak Street for your shopping fix and dance through the night along Rush Street. The Newberry Library is also a great stop to check out noteworthy exhibits and rare book collections.
