My wife and I was bit disappointed that the menu had changed and was not up to its usual standards. The menu was trying to be to clever for what was wanted was just good old rustic northern food.

Warm, friendly, has beer and good food. Everything you want and need in a pub in one of the most gorgeous places in England. They do tabs if you drink and eat and there's no shortage of cosy corners.

The menu sounds mouthwatering. But the food is awful. The so called ragu with pulled brisket and spaghetti. Was flavourless, unappealing and was slopped on a tin plate. We stayed up at the Dungeon Gill and decided after a long day of walking we would head to the sticklebacks barn. The beer is good and the warm fires are good.... More

Favourite place in Langdale hands down. Brilliant staff, amazing food, and most importantly a great selection of gin. 😁😁

I'd read a few recent reviews of the place and was a little concerned. However we quite enjoyed a brief but pleasant pit stop after a long walk up Harrison Stickle and Pike of Stickle. Pleasant atmosphere and decent service. Quite a few more modern choices on the menu, which may not be to the tastes of all hill walkers.... More

Would have been 1 star but added one as the serving staff were very friendly and helpful and beers good. The food on the other hand was very poor. Small portions of food given local names in an attempt to make them sound local and wholesome, which they were not. Came here in 2015 and the food was much better... More

I grew up round these parts and Langdale is a favourite spot of mine. I met up with my good pal and we headed to the valley for a catch up and a bit of adventuring. Of course no trip to this location is complete until you've been to the Old DG. So off we went for a pint and... More

After walking the beautiful Langdale Pikes for the previous 4.5 hours I was ready for a cup of tea and a big piece of cake! It was the only thing that kept me going during the steep and sometimes hair raising descent of Harrison stickle. Tea was a t- bag in an enamel mug and the cakes were hugely overpriced... More

After a mega 8hr walk of challenging terrain and walking the last leg of it in the dark we were happy to see lights coming from the pub where we'd park. Great warming atmosphere on arrival greeted by friendly staff. Found ourselves a cosy corner next to a log fire where we could collapse into. Not an amazing selection of... More

I'm in the Lake District and the weather is typically damp, I'm 9 miles into a 12 mile walk and gained over 1000m of height, every 10m I'm tripping over sheep and I'm thinking of mint sauce, and yes I'm hungry. I'm contemplating locally reared beef mince I purchased yesterday from the coop mixed with some ALDI chilli sauce I've... More
