The Woolpack Elstead
Review
About
We are a traditional, family run, country pub, located in the heart of Elstead in south west Surrey. Originally a wool exchange dating to the 17th century, The Woolpack has been many things, including a butcher's shop and a bicycle repairer's, before becoming the pub it is today. We have recently completed a major refurbishment inside and out. Relax in our welcoming bar, admire the weaving shuttles and other remnants of the wool industry, dine in our restaurant or enjoy the spacious garden. Our menu features seasonal home-cooked dishes, offering both a bar and full restaurant menu. Fresh fish features heavily, although meat lovers will not be disappointed. We have a daily specials board, which you'll often find signature Italian dishes (courtesy of our Italian owners and chef Gina). The surrounding hundreds of acres of common land make the pub particularly popular with ramblers, whose tired feet can be warmed in front of the roaring fire. The Woolpack welcomes families and well behaved dogs and has adequate parking in front of the pub.

Wow… what an amazing restaurant. Everything about this place was on point..
Service was the best I’d ever had, the food the nicest I’d had and a real cute and cosy place to eat.
I went there with my partner and we were given a super romantic table within the bay window which was semi enclosed - making a private and romantic dining area.
We had moules as a starter and it was he most amazing sauce I’d ever had - so smooth and velvety and rich! If they sold the sauce on its own I’d most certainly buy it by the gallon!
For main I had the fish pie which was the best fish pie I’d ever had - absolute perfection! Portion sizes are spot on so really good value for money. I was so full from the starter and main I doubted would have a dessert but agreed to look at the menu anyway - it would be rude not to!… anyway, all the desserts are on a trolley which they wheel in front of you - and of course how I could resist getting one! It was a hard choice but I had the honeycomb cheesecake and it was to die for - you could taste the set honey running through it… Needless to say I almost had to be rolled out of there and I felt blissed out for quite some time after!
Thank you everyone at The Woolpack on Tuesday evening 3rd December 2024 - absolutely perfect evening and I have zero hesitation in recommending to everyone who is in the area. I’m happy to say only live about 40 minutes away from Elstead so I absolutely will be coming back here!

Booked here for a lunch to celebrate my father-in-law's 92nd birthday.
Always a challenge to find somewhere with a menu to satisfy all in the group but this did it.
2 of the chef's specials were tried. The King prawn and salmon pasta (very good) and the liver and bacon (excellent with particular mention to the perfectly steamed veg as well as the great meat). The fish and chips went down a treat and 'the birthday boy's' ham, egg and chips was greatly appreciated.
Puddings selected from a sweet trolley (not seen one of those for a while) including a candle in the guest of honour's lemon meringue pie
All in all an excellent meal and very reasonably priced even before the20% off in September deal
Service wasn't the fastest but fine and a really friendly and helpful serving team.

Booked in for lunch after a great walk in the area. The waitress forewarned us that they were a bit short staffed but she needn't have bothered because at all times the service was prompt and cheery. The pub has a lovely atmosphere. The menu is extensive and we were assured that everything is cooked fresh to order and it definitely tasted that way. There is an Italian influence to the menu and kitchen. I had the butterfly chicken in a great tomato sauce, my husband had the veal saltimbocca, my friend had the fish pie and her husband chose panini, which was a full plate with salad. Main courses were served with a full selection of freshly prepared vegetables. We all loved our meals. Two of us chose lemon tart from the full sweet trolley to follow. The tarts were delicious but it was difficult to choose because all of the desserts were home made and looked great! Coffees were perfect too. Everything was served with a cheery banter. Recommend this place very highly!

£25 for a carvery, and it wasn’t even that good. It’s a joke that they can get away with charging that much for a Sunday Roast. Staff ok, attentive but even after telling us the vegetarian option would take 15 minutes, it took 40. Stuffing had meat but they won’t tell you, you have to ask if it has meat. No problem with sauces, plenty of sauces for the meat. Also, the veggies with roast were not labelled so you wouldn’t know what was made with meat fat and what wasn’t. When you have the audacity to charge £50 for 2 roasts, at least give us some reason to fee the charge is justified. Sunday afternoon and restaurant was as good as empty. Probably explains what the locals think of it. The Mill down the road looked really good and busy. Next time I am around, I will give the Wolfpack a miss and try the pub next door a visit.

Christmas Day Lunch 25 December 2024
Family of 5 adults and 2 children
We had been several times for Christmas Day lunch at this pub and we were very pleased with it - but this year there was a new owner or manager and it was far from satisfactory!!
- The cheapest crackers possible
- Christmas Fiz lukewarm and without bubbles
- Red Spanish wine in a hot bottle
- Starters - Game Terrine - tasteless
- Carrots and mange tout (with the turkey) boiled and tasteless
- Lamb shank : not much meat and too tough
- Panna Cotta insipid
- Service : error in dish choices
In conclusion, a restaurant to avoid for Christmas Day Lunch!

We called in here with friends on Thursday lunchtime 29 Sept. The car park was full and the areas surrounding The Woolpack were also busy. In the end we parked in a side road passed the local shop. When we walked in, we found the place had several tables available and we sat down and had our drinks order taken. After viewing the menu, we decided to have Cheese & Pickle sandwiches, Croque Monsieur and Cumberland Sausage. We also had two sides of chunky chips which do cost £4:50 each!! Anyway, the food was superb and none of us could fault the quality or the service. Our total lunch bill for four people was £67:05 so not too bad. We would certainly come back here again and relax in a comfortable and atmospheric pub in a great village location.

The simple pub lunch of ham, 2 eggs and chips was edible but spoilt by the inferior chips which unfortunately tasted like cardboard - also the plate was cold.
Not a pleasant late lunch experience today as was unaware the restaurant closed on the dot of three o’clock.. having only been informed that food was no longer served after three o’clock which is hardly the same. Shortly after three o’clock a woman behind the bar began shouting something intelligible - we were seated at the other end of the restaurant- gesticulating as she shouted. We deduced from this performance that she would like us to leave, so we quickly finished our food, paid up and departed. Surely there was was no need for this rudeness? A short walk to the table and then politely inform the customers that the restaurant would soon be closing would be more professional and a little kinder. Think twice before having a late lunch at The Woolpack Elstead.

We have been to the Woolpack on several occasion and it has never disappointed us. The Carvery that we had today was excellent and the homemade desserts from the trolley looked amazing. My husband has the chocolate cake and me the caramel crunch cheesecake. Good size portions and extremely tasty.
The staff are always welcoming and helpful with a great sense of humour.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this pub.

We were a large group today, and the meal had been pre-organised some time ago. We arrived at about 12.30 to start eating at 1.00. The starters arrived after 1.30, and the main courses were served at 2.40!! Every now and then, a lady we took to be the manager came out and shouted with a deafening voice, on and on about who was having what and that there was a spare meal left over - we just didn't need that. Most people were very angry at the wait and the loud lady said 'Im sorry' once but in a way that made it sound as though it was our fault. When it eventually came, the food was very good with generous portions but it was all spoiled by the unacceptable wait. Lovely serving staff but chaotic management. Shan't be going there again, I'm afraid,

The Woolpack has a lovely casual atmosphere, with very friendly staff. The food was fantastic - homemade Italian pizzas, lamb chops with Mediterranean vegetables etc, plus homemade Italian desserts. We will be back!

Me and my (Now) Wife were trying to find somewhere to have a nice quiet meal after our ceremony and drinks in the evening. Then The Woolpack popped up from a quick Google search and decided to meet the with them to see if they could provide us with what you wanted.
The Manager was more than accommodating for our needs. Everything was perfect, the food and service especially. We opted to have a Hog Roast in the evening which was incredible and everyone who had a piece really enjoyed it. We were free to have a karaoke machine and soft play pit for the kids in the garden to which was great.
Can't recommend them enough. We will be going back here at some point. 5*

A lovey village pub with an incredibly friendly service and diverse and exciting food and entertainment offering. Don’t get many pubs like this any more but it really is a pillar of the community and offers an incredible array of home made desserts! (See picture). A lovely place for gathering of friends and family and I look forward to coming back.

We came across this great little pub in Elstead on the way back to London.
We've been out all day and we were looking to eat out some where that looked welcoming.
My Partner had the starter of prawns in a sweet chilli sauce and I had the whitebait.. both DELICIOUS as a main I had the Seabream with vegetables and my partner had steak and kidney pudding.
Unfortunately we couldn't find room for the sweet puddings on the trolley pushed up and down the pub.
We can't wait to return to the Woolpack Elstead the staff were friendly and attentive and great value for money.

With regard to the review below I would ask to see the cctv footage or ask you to upload it. Not one person finished their food. It was awful tasteless and two people sent their full meal back. When we complained the waitress argued with us. We were constantly upsold items even when saying no. The food was shoddy and not up to scratch. The pizzas were good. Everything else was absolute rubbish. I refrained from posting on social media but your lies below have forced me to respond. Again please upload the cctv or I would be very happy you have a meeting with the manager face to face and explain the MANY points we were unhappy with. When we were asked 4 times regarding puddings and 4 times I asked for the bill the waitress said we had made her sad by not having puddings or coffees. There was only one other table eating in your restaurant the entire time we were there and that speaks volumes. Word of advice when working in hospitality, take criticism seriously and try and rectify the problem. Very happy to talk about this further.

The staff were so warm and friendly and clearly keen to give all the customers the best possible experience.
We had the Sunday carvery - generous serving of meat (vegetarian option also available) and a good variety of freshly cooked vegetables.
The highlight was the dessert trolley (memories of the Victoria Wood sketch sprang to mind!). There was such a variety, including a gluten free toffee cake. It was great to see this throwback to the 1970s. I've never understood why more restaurants don't have a dessert trolley. I'm sure it must make diners far more tempted to have a dessert when they actually see what's on offer.
We shall certainly return!
