Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Just had a lovely birthday lunch for my daughter. They were very accommodating, friendly and the food was great. We booked in advance and gave our order for ten of us. They let us bring our cake and brought it out lit for us. Thank...you so much for making my daughter’s birthday with her friends special.More

Hubby booked us in here last minute and they were so accommodating! My Dad is disabled and they were so good with him. My Dad and I had had the vegetarian plant burger and it was one of the best vege burgers I have ever...had (being a vege for 20 years) and my Dad is not a vege and is hard to please and loved it too! Yummy chips. Super excellent service too alongside home cooked comfort food! Thank you, it was a tricky day for us and you guys made it special!More

Sunday lunch for 4. Great choice of roasts. Served piping hot. Good to find a pub serving Sunday lunch as your mum would have cooked it. None of the pretentious serving the meat on a platter or stacking layers. Reasonably priced, generous portions, good honest...pub grub. Reasonably priced. Loved it.More

Staying close by and had the choice of two places to eat. Decided on the White Lion and wasn't disappointed. Although busy with a party they fitted 6 of us in and was seated and orders taken within 5 minutes. The size of the meals...was larger than expected and the quality was top restaurant standard. The staff were very friendly and attentive to all our needs. If ever we are back in the area we will return for something else off their extensive menuMore

Great welcome, great food at reasonable prices. Nicest mussels I’ve eaten. What a great find for a meeting point with friends, definitely be back as there were so many things on the menu I could have chosen. Excellent.

Took my mum & daughter out for Sunday dinner. They had a disaabled spot free in carpark & a very short walk to entrance. Very inviting pub, bar staff were very welcoming & friendly. Nice seating areas & seperate res area. Nice beer garden/ seating...area out the back. Had a separate specials menu & kids menu. I had home made steak & kidney pie & veg, my mum had scampie & my daughter had lasagne - decent sized filling portions & I liked how the scampi was slightly browned & properly cooked & lasagne wass slightly burned around the edges of the bowl like it should be. Steak & kidneypie had a good meat filling & a hard crust. All veg was not to hard & not too soft. The chef knew what they were doing. No microwaving at all. Properly cooked. Fairly priced in a nice quaint picturesque village. What more could you ask for? I will be recommending to my friends & will be back.More

Fantastic from the start. It was our first visit and we will definitely be back. The Sunday lunch for Mother’s Day was beautifully cooked, the meat so tender and plentiful with vegetables to add and the roast potatoes were lovely . We went as a...family with my 7 month old son and they were so accommodating with having a pushchair. Such a friendly place and a lovely environment. It’s a half way point for meeting family so an ideal location for us and such a beautiful village. The food is so reasonably priced too and we had a lovely day to remember for my first Mother’s Day. The barman was so friendly and helpful. Considering how busy the restaurant was, our food came quickly and the table service is excellent. We will definitely be back and thank you for such a lovely few hours.More

Not been here for a few years due to health issues, now resolved. Lunch with wife & 2 friends. The ladies both had home-made steak pie which they declared to be excellent. My friend & I both had Beer battered Haddock & chips -best value...for money ever! Good quality fish well cooked, more chips than I could eat & mushy peas for less than £10! The pub has recently changed hands & the new owner greeted us a he was stoking up the log fire! If you want good quality food, value for money & excellent service- a little gem!More

We were on the A1 from London to Edinburgh and we left the main road to eat something and we ground this nice place in a small village. It was good, nice place, not busy on a Thursday late afternoon. We enjoyed the fish'n chips...and a baked potato and some chips'n cheese. Recommended!!More

We were in the area to visit Isaac Newton’s house ( we did the guided tour - really worth it ) then saw the White Lion and came in on the off-chance for some lunch .. so glad we did. The food was absolutely delicious-...great menu lots of variety and veg / vegan options and super fresh ingredients. Traditional pub food, perfectly done and such a nice atmosphere and surroundings. The staff were really friendly, kind and efficient and service was amazing. Highly recommend!! Thanks for a great lunch !!!More

We arrived on spec (the third pub we'd tried, so we were getting a bit worried!), without a booking on a Friday night so the place was really busy. ( recommended by another local pub who weren't able to offer food that night). Nonetheless the...bar manager and waiting staff were great, managing our expectations very well, so we knew we were in for a wait. Had a drink while we were waiting, and we're able to look at menus so we were happy to do so. Our orders were taken in the time we'd been told, and the food arrived swiftly after that. Great menu plus specials menu, we went for pub classics, ham egg chips peas for me and minted lamb burger with onion rings for my husband. Both were really delicious, my eggs had lovely bright yellow yolks so you could tell they were from outside happy hens, and my husband's onion rings were particularly delicious , crispy as well as huge! Everyone was really welcoming, cheerful and efficient even though they must have been stretched by the extra demand ( global birdfair plus locals) on a really warm evening. Had a great evening here and would recommend advance booking as it's a very popular place.More

I believe they open for a limited time on both Christmas and Boxing Day but am not 100% sure. I would suggest you phone them to find out for sure. I would expect them to only take bookings for those days anyway.
