Quality food and effective service. They could make the sides a bit more diet friendly - no need to drown the "steamed" asparagus in oil, and the green beans in bacon.... I just wish they made the dishes healthier WITHOUT having to specifically ask that they don't trash your arteries. How about making the default dish light on salt and... More

Started with calamari, absolutely excellent. Each did an 8 oz filet with spice rub, and steaks were fine. Didn't really get the spice rub in the filets, but to be honest we were not there for steaks, but for the overall dining experience. Loved the hash browns!

My husband and I had an early Valentine's Day meal with our brother and sister-in-law. We sat at the bar for a while before our reservation and the cocktails are always wonderfully made (and trust me, not stingy on the alcohol)! We sat down and the servers are always knowledgeable about the food and drinks. He suggested an alternative wine... More

Came here while in town for a business trip and this place was highly recommended. Started with the crab cakes which were delicious. For our main course I had the filet which was cooked to perfection and had great flavor. Had the green beans, brussels sprouts and mac n cheese and they were amazing. I was too stuffed to eat... Service was very good, and the steak was good, but not worth the price! Steak should be better seasoned and flavorful. The hash browns we great and priced a little high, but I can overlook. But, the steak is about $15 over priced, $38-40 is a more appropriate price and value.

I love going to 801 for the entire dining experience. This is a great place if you want to relax and enjoy your meal instead of anxiously awaiting your food and rushing out the door. The atmosphere is wonderful, especially around Christmas with all the decor. Like others have suggested, the entrees are overpriced. The side dishes are separate, although... More

Always enjoy celebrating special occasions at 801, such a treat. Enjoy tasting seasonal specialty drinks. Appetizers lobster corn dogs ok, calamari very good. Entrees very slow, filet, pork chop, and scallops excellent. Sides hashbrown ok, cream spinach great. They will split sides in half if requested, thanks! Yummy sorbet to finish. The wait for entrees was diff between rating of... More

I have eaten filet mignon all over the country and I have to say that this was THE MOST AMAZING EVER. someone gave this filet mignon a one hour massage before they served it up a perfect medium. fresh sour dough bread with butter. asparagus was good. the hollandaise sauce was a little bland but that was eclipsed by the... 4 of us visited for evening dinner. Service is excellent. Two ordered the Shellfish Pasta Meuniere and were pleased. Two of us ordered steak, one New York Strip and one Filet Mignon. They warn you that the steaks are prepared very rare so we both ordered medium. The filet was cold in the middle but it went back to the... More

I love meat and 801 is my favorite restaurant in Des moines. I live in France and love Iowa pork shop. They make the best. May be too Cook. But pricy Oyster just fresh and great . Élégant nice dîner.
