My wife and I enjoy good food, a friendly atmosphere and drink! The White Hart in Buxted really does tick all the boxes. We have been to the White Hart in Buxted several times, purely based on recommendation from friends and I can honestly say that each time we have been the level of service, attention to detail and food quality has been second to none. The food menu (which does change periodically) was mouthwatering and the selection of wine, spirits, cocktails and beer/larger is impressive enough that you have a hard time deciding what to choose! We recently spent New Year's Eve at the pub with a large group of friends and was pleasantly surprised with the entertainment, set menu and the reasonable cost for the whole evening. Thank you WHB and Happy New Year!

Spur of the moment lunch out and wanted somewhere different. We knew this is a recommended steak restaurant but thought we would explore the lunch options. We had a very warm welcome and were the only customers but all was laid out and two nice log fires going. The pub/dining area is tastefully done out in muted modern greys but within keeping with some of the original features. We were shown straight to a table not before I spotted Gun Powder Pale Ale on tap - one of my local favourites! There is an extensive steak menu but obviously they are not cheap so we would save this option for one of their offer steak nights or a birthday celebration. We both opted for a two patie homemade burger. I make my own so was keen to see what it was like. It certainly didn't disappoint - a full stack flame grilled burger in a brioche bun. I think the fries are home made and a small portion of slaw which was more tasty than it looked. Nestled around the burger was red onion, maple bacon, melted cheese and pickles. It was absolutely delicious but I had to abandon my bun so I could eat all the burger. If I ordered it again I would probably ask for a medium rare. The staff are very chatty and friendly. Will be returning soon.

We chose to end our 4 month break from eating out here.. and I’m so glad we did. Everyone has clearly worked very hard to adapt the pub for this new socially-distant world we live in, and they have made a whole host of changes to make sure every customer feels safe (clear signs detailing what to expect and what to do, hand sanitiser at the entrance, separate entrance and exit, screens at the bar, tables spaced well apart, staff wearing face masks, and so on.) The whole dining area and interior was spotlessly clean too. That they’ve managed to do all of this and yet still maintain a wonderfully warm atmosphere that puts you immediately at ease is the really lovely part. From the moment we walked in, every single member of the team was friendly, funny, enthusiastic and kind.. we felt like long lost friends. The food was delicious, and the menu whilst reduced slightly from normal still has great choice and variety. All 3 of us had starters, mains and deserts, plus drinks, and the bill was under £150.. really reasonable for the very high quality of food served. Everything was brought to us promptly, but without ever making us feel rushed. A massive thank you to everyone at The White Hart for making our first night back out so fabulous, and I hope everyone in the area supports you and comes to enjoy their own experience!

We had a last minute large family group booking for a special lunch in our household bubbles in less than a week's notice. From the first phone call to the actual lunch, everything was coordinated easily with professional yet friendly staff who went above and beyond to make sure we were well looked after throughout the whole lunch. The quality of our 3 course lunch was delicious, of a very high standard, and the menu was a little different from standard pub food. The atmosphere was perfect as we ended up having a whole area to ourselves. We returned for dinner for Thursday steak night and again food and service was amazing! The pub has been set up with plenty of space to allow for social distancing yet felt relaxing and comfy, with plenty of hand sanitizer stations and staff wore all wore visors. We will definitely return when we visit Buxted area!

Great place, and always has been although my latest visit wasn’t as good as it should be. Ordered the Scallops and unfortunately I only ate half of one of the 3 that were served as they were under cooked. Ordered a fillet steak medium which arrived medium rare which I had to send back to get cooked more. The man I believe to be the on shift manager was very apologetic stating that the head chef was on holiday and the food was not up to the proper standards. Despite my food not being great the hospitality and staff were very friendly, helpful and apologetic

We called in last Thursday [19th] for the steak night. I was pleased that they had adapted the restaurant area by taking out half the tables. Consequently, each table and seating was at least 2 metres apart. The atmosphere was friendly and warm, with open fires in the bar lounge area and in the restaurant. We decided to have 2 sirloin steaks with large fries, tomatoes, mushroom and extra mixed vegetables. Because my wife and I prefer different wines, she had Pinot Grigio whilst I had their excellent Malbec, instead of the carafe of Shiraz. The steaks were cooked exactly as asked and were succulent and delicious. We love this pub restaurant. Nick and the staff are excellent hosts, making the diner feel very much at home and the food is always excellent.

We are regular customers at The White Hart, it is our destination of choice whenever we are planning an evening out as a couple, with friends or with the kids. It sounds simplistic but Nick, Ben & the team know what they are trying to be and boy do they deliver. You really get a sence that the management have thought about every aspect of the customer experience but not over thought it. If you like steak go and eat steak at this place, they have recently added an 18oz T-Bone to the menu which is fabulous. Can't wait for our next visit!

Visited a couple of weeks ago for Sunday Lunch. Upon arrival we were shown to a table that was crammed in between others so much so that we had to move the table to actually allow two members of the party to be able to sit down and looking around it was obvious that the rules of social distancing were not being followed and the staff were trying to squeeze as many guests as possible into the place probably to maximise profits. Further, and even more worrying no one from our party was asked to check in with the track and trace app or to provide any contact details as is required during the current pandemic. Very worrying that this was not requested by any staff member. Food ordered which was Sunday roast and rack of lamb was very good and a good quantity but overall slightly over priced as this is just a village pub. Staff were attentive and polite but as mentioned showed no interest in how many people sat close together or taking contact details. Shame because the food was actually good, its a popular place but needs to come down and accept that they are a village pub and not a high end bistro in a city with more variety. It is summer yet no salads!!. Would I go there again? Have been many times over the years but this time was probably the worst experience but would try it again if they brought about the necessary changes and made the menu more in line with a village pub.

Second visit here with family, on walking in on a cold January Saturday it felt very cold inside the open fire appeared to be the only heat source and had dyed right down, we did have a warm welcome from staff and was shown to our table, however I couldn't sit by the wall as it was freezing cold and no heat source anywhere apart from the dying fire. I therefore moved so I could sit next to my husband away from the wall, my daughter and son in law arrived and they also commented on how cold it was my daughter and I had to keep our coats on not what we expected to do on an evening out for a meal. There was a slight effort made to sort out the fire but to no success and it remained cold, and several people had there coats on. It was also freezing in the toilets and the water for washing hands was also cold (maybe boiler problems if that was the case then get some temporary heaters) The food is excellent as always however we did notice there was a restricted menu compared to what is advertised on the website so a little disappointing we enjoyed what we had, however it is expensive to eat here and to feel freezing cold certainly detracted from our enjoyment and we just wanted to go home. We mentioned to the waitress on paying our bill about the cold but she said they were aware but didn't really seem to do much about it. Disappointing visit overall really compared to other time we visited and that's why I reduced the scoring from very good to average on this occasion.

Sunday lunch on a miserable Sunday. Was looking forward as had heard good reviews. With me being a veggie and a small menu the veggie roast sounded a good option. Sadly for the price of £16 I was very disappointed of what was on the plate. Take away the large yorkie and 3 potatoes the rest was not a lot!! The member of staff did not seem that apologetic. We won’t be going back in a hurry

Thank you for this detailed review. Our vegetarian roasts are £14 and on this occasion it was apparent that we had let you down. The roast option was the marinated cauliflower steak and this is a very popular option but when served as part of a veggie roast with cauliflower cheese it is easy to see why you were not fully satisfied. We learn from our mistakes and our veggie roasts have since been fully revamped with dishes such as wellingtons, filo parcels, tarts, etc. Once again thank you for taking the time to provide us with this valuable feedback.

I have been meaning to write this review for some time and was reminded by other events only today. However, 8 months after my appalling Father’s Day lunch at the White Hart, it is still high in my mind. This was arranged and paid for as a treat for me by my two youngest daughters, which made it impossiblefor me to complain on the day without hurting their feelings. They, as vegetarians, seemed very much to enjoy their lunch but my wife and I ordered traditional roast beef, which was, frankly, appalling. Instead af carved beef cooked medium, as we had ordered, we were each served a single slab of near-raw (rather than rare) meat that was so full of gristle that we had to continue chewing it until the girls were sufficiently distracted for us to spit it into our napkins. We kicked the remaining meat around our plates, and finally buried it under the remains of very questionable yorkshire puddings. This really had to rate as the worst pub Sunday Roast we could remember. Very frustrating that we couldn’t complain at the time, but do so now. Surely, the chef (so called) should have recognised that a roast requires carved meat and also the very poor quality of the beef he served. Or maybe he was unable to carve it for the same reason we couldn’t chew it.

My Fiancé and I visited The White Hart on a Sunday for a roast. We booked the table in advance due to the Covid malarkey. There was plenty of hand sanitizer at the door and then we were warmly greeted and shown to our table. I always worry about portion sizes at any restaurant so I often have a starter out of necessity rather than strictly for pleasure. We had the bread basket to start followed by a roast each. I was extremely pleasantly surprised when I was brought a well presented and very delicious "mound" of food. Both of us where extremely full and both thought, although we enjoyed it and did not regret getting it, we didn't really need the starter! Every staff member was attentive and very polite particularly Adi! Overall a great experience, definitely recommended!

Having been here several times over the years, particularly for the steak night which is always very good we decided to give the Sunday Lunch a try. Firstly, the staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome. The pub is very nice and has a good ambience. The meal itself was hit and miss. The meat element was nice, a decent sized portion and well cooked and the gravy was also good. Unfortunately the veg and potato part of the lunch was very disappointing. I think perhaps with our previous good experiences and with it being the self proclaimed 'best roast in Sussex' (and charging accordingly) we were expecting too much. That said, it would not stop us from returning, just not on a Sunday.

Just stopped by here for lunch for a quick bite to eat. Absolutely lovely. We were given a warm and friendly welcome by the waiter on duty (2pm shift) sorry we didn’t catch his name. Restaurant was clean and organised with good social distancing in place. Service was very prompt and very attentive, couldn’t ask for more. Food arrived quickly, tasted good and was great value considering the whole package of service, ambiance and relaxation. We will definitely be back soon to try one of the Tomahawk steaks!!
