Booked table for Saturday lunch, we had not been here before. Staff were friendly & efficient & our meals were excellent as a member of my family is gluten free. We had pie of the day (steak & ale) & fish and chips, all piping...hot & delicious. When next in the area we would definitely go again. Thank you to all the staff.More

The service was excellent.. the young chap who served us couldn’t have been more informative about the menu and friendly. He was so enthusiastic and kind even after a very busy Easter Weekend! Would definitely go again.. and the food was delicious too! ( Steak...open sandwich and sweet potato soup with a touch of lime! Ice cream for dessert.. perfect!) Thank you for such an enjoyable time.More

Very disappointed. Staff could not be faulted but food was something you would receive on a cross channel ferry 49 years ago. Roast potatoes were awful , the gravy resembled dish water. Both roasts we had were awful, our wives had fish and chips ,...all the chips resembled scraps ! Seriously dreadful meal.More

I booked fairly last minute (the Wednesday prior to Mother’s Day on Sunday). The restaurant weren’t able to accommodate my specific time, but made several attempts other the next day or so to ring and email me to let me know that the time was...now available. Superb customer service. On the day the pub was well presented and everything you could expect of a country pub. The service, food and presentation for a Sunday roast was good, though would add that more gravy on the mains was required (we asked and it was provided). Also having a one year maybe a bit more common sense from the staff about not placing very hot food and breakables right down in front of him! Other than that a superb experience.More

Sadly The Rock still hasn't recovered from the change in management. We felt we must give it a second chance, but with sticky tables and uninspiring menu with no freshly prepared food we were again disappointed. On booking for a Saturday night the latest table...we were offered was 6.30pm. We hoped it was because they were busy, but the reverse was the case- there were few other diners in a mostly empty pub. What a shame- it used to be buzzing. We won't be going back.More

Excellent Sunday Dinner, great locations and a nice beer garden. First class pub and food venue, dog friendly too, so perfect for dog walkers.

Went here for a Sunday roast with the family. Staff were all great and friendly, and the pub itself is lovely but food was very average. Also dog friendly. The food... I paid £23 for a trio roast which was 1 piece of beef, pork...and chicken. There was no crackling with the pork despite being on the menu, the chicken was essentially a chicken wing and was undercooked and almost as pink as the beef (the beef was nice to be fair). Only had one carrot and a bit of cheese sauce which was meant to contain cauliflower. The seasonal greens was just a bowl of cabbage to share and the roast potatoes were tasty but also a bit undercooked. Came away feeling somewhat underwhelmed and a bit ripped off, when compared to almost every other place we've been for a roast dinner over the past few years. On a side note, the sharing roast dinner board advertised on the website is not actually available or on the menu at the pub (the reason for us picking the place). A real shame really as we were really looking forward to the visit and it was ultimately disappointing.More

Having been a couple of times before, we booked for a Sunday lunch to celebrate a birthday. On this occasion I’m afraid we were disappointed. The food was OK, (apart from the grease proof paper which was served along with the nut roast), the portions...were large and almost hot enough, but the service was very poor. We waited a long time for everything. One of the starters didn’t turn up and when we asked for it we were told, in rather an off hand manner, that they had run out. The bread sauce, which should have been served with the roast chicken didn’t turn up until asked for. No sauces like mustard or apple sauce were offered and we had to ask several times for a drinks order to be taken. We only ordered two desserts and they managed to forget one of them and when we chased it up it was served without any cutlery to eat it with! I should have read the more recent reviews before booking this time. I gather that the restaurant is under new ownership and sadly it is now not a patch on how it used to be. We won’t bother going back.More

I can not believe my experience this evening!!! Having been recommended by a friend to go to this pub for a meal and travelling for 45 minutes to get there, arriving at 8.05 pm. I asked for a table for 3 of us and we...were told, although it was only 5 past 8 they were sorry but finish at 8 pm and where they are busy, although there were 3 tables we could of sat at , they were unable to serve us. I am disgusted .More

We dined at The Rockingham on Christmas Eve and it was amazingly busy on entering the pub. Our tables were full of customers but the landlady apologised and said they will be clear soon and sorted us out with free drinks…a nice touch… I have...to say the beef Sunday dinner was one of the best I’ve ever had and a 1000% better than before the pub had been renovated… My dessert was also to die for. There was a great atmosphere around the place and not just festive vibes. Can’t wait to go back on our traditional visit Boxing Day. Long may “THE NEW ROCK” continue!!More

The pub is still a lovely place to visit with attractive and tasteful Christmas decorations. However, we had to wait nearly 50 mins for the food to arrive. We all had the pie of the day which sadly was inedible as the steak was so...tough and the vegetables were barely cooked (we like them crunchy but not raw as these were.) The chips were good and the gravy was very tasty and those who had the sorbets said they were delicious. The crumble was cold in the middle. A lot to be improved here and as the new management seemed young and attentive, hopefully they will sort things out.More

We visited for lunch with a couple of friends. It was a pleasant 'old English pub' atmosphere for dining. As another review pointed out, the tables are unpleasantly sticky - almost as if beer had been split on them and left to dry. My starter...of smoked duck and duck mousse, with sourdough toast, was good. Three of us then continued with the Fish of the Day, which was a fillet of bream. The quantity of fish was not generous, but the sauce was tasty and the potato accompaniment and rvegetables fine. The coffees were well made. We enjoyed our lunch.More
