We visited The George this weekend with friends and found a gem in the beautiful Northamptonshire countryside. The hosts Steph and Neil and their daughter Hannah were very welcoming. We extended our stay to two nights and the accommodation and breakfast were first class as were the meals we enjoyed in the restaurant. In the bar, the open fire was very homely and inviting, and there was a great selection of beers, wines and spirits to choose from. We will definitely be back again soon. Thanks for a great weekend staycation.

We dined here this evening for the first time in a number of years.
The hosts were very welcoming with excellent knowledge of the local produce they use & their attention to the selection of wines . The food was fabulous! Tasted great & well presented. To finish it off they could adapt or offer most of the menu gluten free!

Now under new management, we visited last night with friends that have the pleasure of calling this establishment, “their local”. Atmosphere, service and food were first class. We opted for the salmon starter and shared the Tomahawk special .... it was cooked to perfection and served as requested.
We are already planning our return! Would definitely recommend this establishment. Very good with allergies too.

We were really looking forward to our evening meal here. When we arrived we were told it was pie night I opted for steak and onion and my husband opted for steak and kidney. The food took quiet a while to arrive and looked quiet nice, well I’ve never had a steak pie without any meat in it I do lie there was a small shred of meat, looking at my husbands pie he got 2 pieces of meat. The draft beer was flat so we changed to bottled after that.
In summary if your a vegetarian this is the place to go if you want a meat meat pie I suggest you go elsewhere.
The staff were friendly but we felt embarrassed to mention our disappointment.

We are sorry to read of your disappointment when visiting The George. We are indeed disappointed that you didn't mention anything while you were here.
Our food is all cooked to order so it does take longer than a fast food restaurant. Our pie nights are extremely popular and all the pies are packed with filling be it a meat or a vegetarian option. We can only apologise that you thought yours was not.
Again our beers are well kept and had you of mentioned that you thought it was flat, we would have changed it for you.
We welcome feedback from our customers be it good or not so good, but if it is more useful if mentioned whilst you are here when we can hopefully rectify anything that you feel isn't right.

Found this place purely by accident as i was looking to stay in the area for a couple of nights away with work.
What a gem of a find and anyone, for business or pleasure who has to stay in and around the Corby, Market Harborough area I wouldnt hesitate to recomend The George.
Not only was the converted stables a wonderful place to stay, Steph and her husband (sorry didn't get his name) couldn't have been more welcoming.
The food......where do I start!! No quick and easy meals for guests here, Steak Night Weds couldn't have picked a better night, proper hand made chips and a piece of steak to die for. Thursday night A la Carte menu with a good selection, my choice was Pork Chop with honey and mustard mash and veg, I didn't think the chef could top the previous night but he did!!
Breakfast equally as good so if you like your food homely cooked you'll love this place.
I have stayed away a lot over my career and stayed in great hotel chains, average hotels and the usual suspects of hotel chains but The George ranks up at the top. Its not just great food, great rooms and great service its the made to feel welcome feeling you want and you certainly get that here and more.....
Thanks again for a great stay Steph and hubby, will see you again.

We had the Valentines take away. This was cooked at home, all the ingredients supplied by Neil and Steph, all labelled and detailed cooking instructions were supplied. My beef Wellington was superbas my wife’s fish.
This last weekend we went for the Thai takeaway, this time it was cooked and flavours were excellent.
When pub allowed to open look forward to some of the excellent food which they offer, and despite lockdown they are cheerful

We went to The George with our neighbours to celebrate their birthdays.
From the minute we walked in until the minute we left we felt welcomed and valued.
All the staff were friendly, polite and helpful without being intrusive.
We had the most delicious meal made with top quality ingredients. Everything was beautifully presented.
There was bread and butter to nibble on whilst we waited got our food.
3 out of the 4 of us had starters - lamb koftas for my husband and one of our guests were declared as having a “kick” but not too spicy. I had squid and scallop roe in a very light batter accompanied by a side salad. These were really yummy!
The 2 men had steak for their main course - cooked to perfection as they had requested (medium), I had lamb which was also cooked just right and our female guest had pan fried fish which she said was “mmmmm”!
3 of us opted for dessert. I had rhubarb spritz with shortbread biscuits. This was a very generous portion so I wrapped up one of the biscuits to have with my morning coffee the next day. The men had cherry and almond sponge with custard - light and fluffy.
The food was so lovely that I wanted to “dive in” so I forgot to take any photos except for my dessert.
Everything was very reasonably priced considering the quality of the food and how it was presented.

As our local is temporarily closed we are visiting other pubs serving food in the area. This was the first visit to The George at Ashley and we shall definitely be returning. We booked in advance, which was a good thing as almost all the tables in the eating area were taken (a Thursday evening) with a collection of friendly patrons who were evidently enjoying themselves. The host was very welcoming and took time to talk to us about his pub. All the food is cooked from fresh ingredients so you expect to wait a few minutes for the dishes to arrive. Well worth the wait. I had the mushroom soup which was strongly flavoured and full of character, followed by the venison - tender as chicken and served in a delicious wine sauce. The beer selection was good; the wine list was a bit limited in choices of single glass (as opposed to a full bottle) wine, but the landlord obviously knows his customers and didn't have a pretentious or expensive list. Thanks for a really enjoyable meal and such a great atmosphere.

Great food, very friendly staff and a really lovely atmosphere- will definitely visit again!
It’s a bit of a hidden gem but actually only a stones throw away from Market Harborough and Corby.
Decor is nice and it was warm and toasty on a chilly eve.
Menu is very well priced for the quality & I was impressed with the ale selection.

Accommodation was of a good standard, clean well appointed rooms with all the facilities you would expect.
The food ( both a la carte) and breakfast was exceptional .....steaks were cooked as ordered and the meat of good quality. Vegetables were cooked to order and again cooked perfectly. Desserts were out of this world.
Breakfast was equally as good, all the fruit juices, cereals etc and a full English breakfast. Made with local good quality ingredients rather than cheap sausages/ bacon etc..... it was the little details that made a difference, warm plates, freshly cooked food served hot ( as opposed to food re heated or kept warm as is often the case)
The landlord clearly puts effort into the pub, he and the staff make you feel welcome and want you to enjoy yourself.
My wife ( and I) really enjoyed our brief stay at the George and as the saying goes " happy wife, happy life" we couldn't fault anything..

We came and had Sunday lunch with friends from London. Everyone agreed that the food was absolutely delicious, plenty of it and served beautifully - Neil, Steph and the rest of the staff were so friendly and we felt so welcomed by them. The pub was full, with two sittings and there was a lovely atmosphere.
We have had several meals at this beautiful pub and every time the food has been delicious and the staff so friendly, but not intrusive. We highly recommend and will definitely be back!

I have always previously had a good experience of eating at The George, however on Friday evening it was disappointing to say the least. I would give the food 5 stars, it was delicious. However, we waited far too long for the main course to be served, as people came to collect takeaway fish and chips; and a glass of wine to accompany said course arrived just before I had finished eating it, after a reminder to the waitress who was doing her best but had far too much to do for one person. We decided against the dessert course after waiting for nearly 30 minutes for our order to be taken. It was also far too cold in the snug to be left sitting around waiting.

Myself and sister sstayed there for one night and we could not fault it. All the staff were professional and attentive. Its in a lovely quiet rural location. We had standard double rooms which were well appointed and clean and even included a pod coffee machine.which was a nice touch. Breakfast was superb. We also experienced the dinner and Dominie (sorry if not spelt correctly) was a vision of total efficency, checking in guests, serving behind the bar as well as waitressing. Not all nights are al a carte menu, but they have themed set meal evenings and we were there on 'Pie night'...all home made. So if you have a specific meal idea you would need to check prior to booking. We thoroughly enjoyed it.

We visited the George to meet with friends for dinner, Ashley was a great midway point .
We only stayed for one night but a lovely small village pub with lovely hosts. The spacious bedroom was spotless & had everything you could want. Nice bathroom
with a lovely walk in shower and well stocked with toiletries.
It was very hot in the evening and there was even a fan for the room which was most welcome. It was so quiet that we were able to sleep with the window open, the beds were comfy and we slept well .Breakfast was very good and locally sourced sausages were especially good - full English, plus the usual cereal, tea, coffee and fruit juice
We had a lovely stay and would 100% stay again. Lovely place with lovely staff not one bad thing to say!!

Although not far from where we live we decided to celebrate a birthday weekend by dining and staying overnight at this village pub with rooms. We were not disappointed. The menu is always imaginative with food that is top class. Our room was very spacious with double aspect windows and an ensuite. Plenty of tea, coffee, bottled water and biscuits supplied. Steph and Neil are the perfect hosts, making sure that everything was OK. They were there next morning and Neil cooked the most perfect breakfast - bacon crispy as requested. We will be back for the incredible food and wouldn’t hesitate to stay overnight again.
