I came with my 98 year old friend who is a wheelchair user. Kev could not have been more helpful or welcoming to us. It made such a difference to the experience. The pub is so pretty and the food delicious. I would highly recommend...to both young and older guests!More

I booked The Bull and Butcher for a family occasion. There were 10 adults, a toddler and 4 dogs so quite a group. We pre-booked our food online so there wasn't any distraction in choosing food to interrupt our chatting. The weather that day was...stunning and the garden was full at 12.30, The staff could not have been more busy but our food was served exactly as we ordered, it was hot and delicious. The staff were great at moving our table so the dogs and the toddler had plenty of shade and we were all comfortable. There was a highchair and water for the dogs. Thank you Bull and Butcher Team for adding to our wonderful day out with your friendly and professional service.More

On arriving at the Bull & Butcher you can’t help but be taken back by the stunning view of the countryside around the Bull & Butcher its been beautiful a location for many TV series and dramas. On entering the Bull & Butcher you will...be amazed by the setting of the pub and character and and ambiance of the pub / restaurant not forgetting the original water well underneath one of the tables going back centuries is a wonderful feature. The food is divine the chef prepares everything as it’s ordered so no preheated dishes and it’s well worth the wait. Moving on to the delightful and very knowledgeable Daisy who takes great care of everything else from serving you and taking first class care of you she will also enlighten you on the history of the place especially the spiritual side off the place I won’t enlighten you on this you will have to visit and ask her but it’s a story to cherish. Definitely a place well worth travelling to and I’m convinced you will want to return definitely a 10/10.More

Great pub to stop off at when in the area. However, watch out when you pay the bill as 12.5% service is added when the only service you get is your plated food being brought to the table. You have to get your own cutlery...and paper napkin, and when you ask for a condiment you're told where to go to get it. You also have to go to the till to pay. So adding a service charge seems wrong with this waiting service in play.More

Always wanted to visit Turville being big fans of Goodnight Mr Tom and Vicar of Dibley so we thought we'd have lunch at the Bull and Butcher while we were there. We were absolutely blown away by the quality of the food and the portion...size for the starters and main meal was perfect. I had the smoked mackerel pate with horseradish butter which had all been made in house from scratch and it was the best I'd ever eaten. It was followed by an excellent Sriracha chicken with udon noodles which had also been made from scratch. My Wife had Crispy chilli squid, The batter on the squid was the perfect side of crunchy and beautifully cooked, followed my spare ribs in a monkey gland sauce. The meat fell off the ribs making eating easy and the sauce was a perfect companion for it. The chips had been blanched and had a lovely crispy coating, soft inside. People looking at the menu might find this a little expensive but when you appreciate the quality of this food then the price goes out of the window. You'll have a little wait but that's what happens when your meal is being made from scratch. Will definitely be going back again.More

This pub is set in a picture book village which attracts a lot of visitors. We visited on Monday lunchtime, when most pubs are closed. We received a warm welcome and were offered a limited choice of mainly pub food classics. Their speciality is pies...and I had chicken & mushroom which was good if a little bit light on the chicken. My wife had a kind of Oriental fusion dish of grilled chicken with noodles in a broth, which she enjoyed. With a starter and a couple of drinks the bill was around £65. It’s a lovely place to go after walking your dogs in the Chilterns. Not a gastro pub, but serves good home-cooked food.More

Tasteless leek soup, scruffy pub which didn’t look clean either. Only good thing was good service. Not the pub it used to be but gets lots of trade because of location.

This pub had been recommended to us as a quaint country pub that did amazing pies. Quaint may be one word for it but scruffy and grubby are more accurate. A good clean would not go amiss. We both ordered pies that were fine, but...no more than that. They certainly could not be described as outstanding. On leaving, I paid by card and thought the bill a little high but did not query it. On getting home and looking at the receipt I noticed that a 12.5 service charge had been added. Had I noticed at the time time Iwould have declined to pay it as the service was really quite mediocre. We shall certainly not be visiting again.More

We were lucky to get a table on the day (booked in the morning) and we really fell on our feet. Lovely warm welcome on arrival and all the staff were very friendly and welcoming during our visit. Nothing was too much trouble. Having read...about the award winning pies, I wanted to try one. A pie is not usually something I would have but they are Award Winning after all and they didn't disappoint. I had the venison, 2 others in our party had the chicken and ham and the lamb and mint whilst the last of our party had the lamb shank (which was tender and succulent). All the pies were delicious and the gravy that comes with them was excellent. The venison pie did need the gravy but it was so good that I will recommend trying it. I had a glass of the Picpoul de Pinet which was delicious and perfectly chilled. There was a lovely log fire burning and the pub was very homely. We are just looking for another excuse to travel out that way so we can dine there again.More

Everything a country pub should be..very friendly staff, great atmosphere, friendly landlord. The pub looks and feels like the perfect country pub, whether you are a local or a stranger..from the fireplace to the dog asleep by it you could be in a novel..I would...say a movie, but Hollywood could nt come up with something so authentic,as it does not fall into the Disney trap like so many. Ihave eaten lunch and dinner and never been disappointed.More

Visited for Mother’s Day. We called the pub twice first when booking and before our visit about one persons dietary requirements which is an intolerance to garlic. We were assured that the chef would do roast potatoes without garlic and we could have everything else...bar the roast lamb. It turned out that the person we spoke to messed up and didn’t inform the kitchen. We were offered chips which is not what you have with a roast. These were over cooked and because of this lacked potato inside. A dissapointing roast dinner. We even had to ask for the Yorkshire pudding. Staff did not care that their mess up spoiled our mother’s meal.More

Wonderful! We were seated in the bar area, as we took the dog, and our initial impression was it was a bit rundown, however, we were soon chatting to the staff and locals and made to feel incredibly welcome. We each ordered different pies (lamb,...chicken, steak), all of which were excellent. Highly recommended and would definitely visit again.More

Historically been a nice pub to drop into for a pint and bite lunch after a Chilterns walk but like so many around here is now really a (gastro) restaurant with a small bar in the corner. All the tables were booked but as it...was a bright if chilly day we asked if we could sit outside which was no problem. Ordered beers (good Brakspear even if it travels a long way from Henley these days) and fish & chips from a very helpful young lady. We then realised there was an electric outside heater so I asked the chap in the bar if we could have it switched on “Absolutely not - I haven’t got time to set it up - all these tables are booked…” and walked off. Not even interested that we were about to spend £100+ on the off chance. Thankfully the lady who took my order was nearby and when I asked her it was no trouble at all - 2 mins later it was all plugged in and we were toasty. Not really sure what happened there - perhaps he didn’t realise we were eating ? (gastro pubs aren’t really interested in drinkers) but I was quite shocked. The visit was saved by the food - the F&C was excellent and quite reasonably priced - but half the service received means we’ll think twice about returning.More
