A family meal probably best describes our visit to this hidden gem. After the most amazing journey (over fields and rivers that only Indiana Jones could navigate through) we eventually found this dream pub. I must clarify that we decided to follow the sat nav rather than use our eyes having driven past the pub before finding it. Looks are... More

We visited with family at the beginning of February. After a little magical mystery tour finding the pub in the dark we were delighted with what we discovered. The beer was extremely well kept and the food was absolutely delicious and of a very high standard. The owners were fabulous such a laugh and very friendly and interested in our... More

Stopped in for a drink and possibly some food on Saturday lunchtime after a walk. After standing at the bar for about 10 minutes with no-one even acknowledging us (despite being passed repeatedly by staff) we left. This wasn't poor service, it was just rude. It looked busy but all it would have taken is for one of the staff... More

This pub has exceptional views of the Chilterns and probably at its best when sunny, however the food is above average and it is busy despite its isolation on a narrow road. The restaurant is surprisingly large and nevertheless booking is advisable. We were not rushed and the inside tables near the log fire are advisable when cold. This is... More

I have been to the Five Horseshoes many times and it is always delightful. The latest visit was last Saturday night, a large group of us. Everybody without exception loved their dishes: baked camembert, pigeon breast, mussels, steak, venison, sticky toffee pudding, home made ice creams. Produce are mainly sourced locally, the beer local is excellent and there is a... More

Visited lunchtime between Christmas and New Year and glad we booked a table, very busy. Nice meals in pleasant surroundings. Good service, will go back when less foggy to see the view

Beautiful pub/restaurant in the middle of nowhere, with amazing views across the Chilterns. Always extremely busy, so we were pleased to get a last minute booking on the Thursday after Christmas. We weren't very adventurous with our food selection (three fish and chips please!), but the menu looked pretty good, if a little pricey, and the food itself was fine;... More

This delightful olde world restaurant in the "middle of nowhere" north west of Henley on Thames is one of our favourite places to eat. My wife and I have celebrated several birthdays and anniversaries here. The location is quiet, with the main sound outside being the bleats of the sheep. The atmosphere is homely, especially near the open fire, and... More

This remote pub is well worth finding. We were welcomed (including our dog) and our booked table was near the open fire. Food was good all round (up to excellent from some reports), service friendly and great, we were given space to talk and chat with no pressure from the establishment. The atmosphere was positive without being noisy (apart from... More
