Hubby and I stopped in for a BBQ fix and wanted a new place to try, so we chose Lefty's since we were in the area. I ordered 1 lb. of ribs with sauce and 2 sides (Garlic mashed potatoes and Collard greens) and hubby...had a brisket sammie platter. Note: the sides are larger portions when ordered separate from platters. Mine were pretty big. We both ordered UNSWEET tea, but I guess the don't truly make unsweetened tea here, so I had to get by with water. No biggie for some, but I just really enjoy good strong ice tea with my Bar- B- Q, so I was a bit let down. Lemme say though, things turned around quick.
Our food came quickly and looked amazing. My ribs were PERFECT. Really, the meat was plentiful for ribs, juicy, but nicely crisped on the outer edges and even the "bone skin" we rib eaters love to pull off with our teeth was seasoned nicely and perfect to gnaw off. The sauce was excellent, it had the vinegar of a good Memphis type, with none of the over-sweetness most have. I loved them and will most decidedly be back for more of them. I really enjoyed both the potatoes and the greens as well. The garlic is a perfect foil to the sweet sauce, although mine were a touch dry. Little butter would have remedies that, but overall the flavor of them was excellent. The greens had a slightly smoky weird sweetness to them. Never had my greens like that. They were cooked well and after the surprise of the first bite, grew on me. I found myself devouring them after a bit. Hubby's brisket was good, but way too salty. And we both adore our salt. He loves brisket, but less salt in the brine/prep would do wonders here. I could taste same seasoning hiding under all the salt, but it was hard to find. The bun was a nice selection for the sandwich size, but the construction was sloppy, making it pretty hard to eat. We also got a to-go order for the kiddo and I tried the items too when we got home. He was thrilled with the seasoned potato curls and liked the pulled pork sandwich, even though it was spicy. He said a lot of kids might not like it, but he lies the spice, so he was happy. The sandwich is HUGE, enough for two meals easy. The pork is shredded; consistency like tuna fish and mixed with dried pepper flakes and other spices, very tasty even without the BBQ sauce. Add that sauce though, and the vinegary coleslaw, and you'll have a huge messy treasure of a sammy. Very good. Prices are a little more than we expected, but the staff is excellent and the atmosphere very family friendly. It was nice to hear folks having a good time, laughing and birthday parties are welcomed here. TV's are on so you can see a game or some cartoons, but not obtrusive. Overall, I thought it very good. Only a few things I would suggest: a few Specials maybe with smaller sides/half portions for those on a budget, Make sure you have some good strong UNsweet tea on offer, and PLEASE put TOOTHPICKS on the tables.More
