I'm just finishing up a wonderful chicken parm dinner as we speak, and feel inclined to share the secret of Sweet Basil. Hands down, they excel in all facets of the experience. Superior food quality, charming atmosphere, friendly service, huge portions and reasonable pricing. Not sure what else you can ask for. Well done! We will be back soon!

As others have noted, Sweet Basil is focused on the main course--no dessert, BYOB. The food isn't precious or elegant; it leans toward hearty and earthy. I had lamb shank, and my friend had beet ravioli, and we both enjoyed the dishes very much, My portion has very large, very tasty, very tender. The only problem for us--and it wouldn't... More

Sweet Basil is a hidden "sweet" spot in Needham. It is a BYOB so show up with a bottle or you will have a dry meal. You also need to be a lover of garlic. All of the options are fantastic and the food never fails to please but if garlic is not part of your regular palette, this may... More

If you ask anyone (almost anyone) in Needham they will tell you that this is there favorite place in town. I am hesitant to write this review as it just attracts more patrons making it even harder for us locals to get a table :). With that said, Sweet Basil is just great all around. They don't take reservations, don't... More

We live in Needham. We have tried all of the metro west restaurants. Sweet Basil is by far the best food and value. The vibe is energetic, the food is delicious and the portions are big enough to be shared. Best of all, you can bring your own wine. There is a small corking fee but still a fantastic value.

Great hearty Italian food. Large portions. Small intimate space. Get there early or be prepared to wait outside. BYOB a local favorite for years!!

My husband and I enjoyed a delicious dinner at Sweet Basil. The bolognese was made with fresh ingredients and al dente tagliatelle. The shrimp scampi was delicious as well- very fresh! Enjoy the bread and pesto, and go early for no wait! There was a wait when we left... will enjoy it again tonight- very generous portions!

It's cash only, you'll wait at least 30 minutes on a Tuesday, and there's no liquor license. None of this matters. Sweet Basil is the best Italian food in the Boston area, and that includes the North End. Portions are huge, prices are fair for what you get, service is outstanding, and the owner is there almost every night. Make... More
