We stayed at the Angel as part of my wife’s birthday celebration and I’m so glad we did. The Angel exceeded expectations in so many ways. We were greeted by Craig who was friendly from the outset, and we loved the quirkiness of our room...which was warm, cosy, and spotlessly clean. We had booked for dinner and enjoyed a pre dinner drink by an open log fire on a very comfy sofa. As we were the only diners that night we had our choice of tables. The menu had plenty of choice and we could have both chosen many of the meals on offer. Craig was attentive without being intrusive, and the background music was perfect. The food was absolutely delicious, could not fault any aspect of it. From the home-baked sourdough bread with oil and balsamic, to the tiger prawn risotto, and turkey main course. The breakfast menu was lovely and had a selection of options and would suit most tastes, We opted for the English breakfast and, again, Trevor and his staff produced delicious food. We can honestly say that the food quality would put a few 4 star hotels to shame ( and we have stayed at a lot) I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Angel, we only live 15 minutes away, but will happily book again for an overnight stay and meal.More

It was wonderful to be back at The Angel. We have so missed eating there during the pandemic. The food, as always, was superb. Chef patron Trevor Bosch is still able to create mouth watering food. He makes an excellent risotto, mine was a main...course of mushroom & sage with a truffle salad, absolutely divine. My husband had his favourite starter of tiger prawn risotto which he was desperately hoping would still be on the menu! He wasn’t disappointed & it was apparently, better than ever. His main course was a pork chop with black pudding & a cassoulet. That was another perfect choice for him. My starter was an Oxford Blue twice baked soufflé with figs which was lovely & a treat to have some figs, as there seems to be a shortage. We both had the espresso creme brûlée with a cinnamon biscuit which was a delicious end to a superb meal. It was so lovely to get back to The Angel, the staff were great & of course Trevor’s food was as excellent as ever. Well done everyone, you are a class act.More

This was our first time staying at The Angel, although we have (in the past) eaten here many times. The current staffing situation means that the only diners are residents or private parties. We hadn't realised this when we booked, but what was lost in...the overall restaurant atmosphere was made up for by the feeling of exclusivity and a safe space to dine. Our room was beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The age of the building makes for low doorways and steep stairs to the bedrooms so maybe not suitable if you have impaired mobility. We had an excellent breakfast every morning - lots of choice and beautifully cooked to order. We also dined-in one night and, again, the food was delicious. Craig was the person who checked us in, took our orders and served our meals - all of which he did in a relaxed yet friendly manner. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Angel and appreciated the very personal service. We only hope they will be able to get back to allowing more diners very soon.More

I was given a voucher for a meal at the Angel as a gift, which we had as a take away meal due to Covid restrictions. What an absolute treat it was! It was really nicely presented and packaged and the food was absolutely delicious....Would thoroughly recommend for that special occasion or just to give yourself a lovely treat. Exceptional.More

We had our wedding reception at the Angel. This included room stay, wedding dinner and breakfast. The food was incredible and the staff were very welcoming and organised. Nothing was too much trouble. The day was very special and the Angel contributed significantly to that....The room was lovely. The bathroom was EXCEPTIONAL. The added touch was homemade cookies in the room. Special mention to the haddock dish and full English on the breakfast menu and plenty of choice for children. Thank you very much for the amazing day and stay.More

We have now been stunned for the second time by how wonderful the Angelathome service is. This time we tried lamb en croute with rosemary potatoes, seasonal vegetables and red wine jus, followed by profiteroles and salted caramel cheesecake .The meal was beyond perfection. It...comes with genuinely simple instructions and you get the quite illusory feeling that you have cooked it yourself! The word takeaway does not do the meal justice. I 'cooked' it for my wife's birthday and using a timer and the instructions provided we could Zoom our grandchildren, eat nibbles and then enjoy a stunning meal without much effort. If there is anything good about lockdown then takeaways like this may be it. The lamb was tasty and succulent, the rosemary potatoes were something I will try and recreate and the veg were easy to cook, generous and accompanied the meal perfectly. The sweets were delicious and so generous that they will provide dessert for tomorrow as well. We ate (and drank our own wines) heartily with substantial portions, but I don't feel over full. This is our second Angelathome meal and we will be back for more and telling our friends all about the experienceMore

If you are looking for really fabulous freshly cooked local food, an interesting menu, an independent restaurant, thoughtful service in a great location then The Angel is for you. They also have lovely rooms to stay in and cater for (COVID compliant) private parties. Like...most independent restaurants that also now offer a take away menu. Front of house is calm and patient Craig who couldn’t be more helpful. The owner lives next door and is the chef. The food is as good as you will get anywhere. Clearly I would recommend it and would love you to try it and to support an independent business.More

The tapas sharing starter was good. Generous portions, nice selection and well prepared. The beef wellington was out of this world. It came ready prepared and (for us) needed 25 minutes in the oven with the dauphinous potatoes. The 10 mins resting time gave time...to microwave the veg and heat the red wine jus. Hot plates are essential. The next 20 minutes were sheer heaven. The fillet of beef was tender, succulent and tasty. The potatoes and veg were a perfect accompaniment with the jus. There was no real effort in the cooking and you could almost persuade yourself that you had done the cooking. The tiramisu dessert was great. Yes, we did miss the friendly atmosphere of The Angel and we would have liked to serve this up to friends and pretend we had cooked it ourselves, but the word takeaway does not do this food justice. We will be telling all our friends about this find (in fact a friend told us). Perhaps I shouldn't say this, but we have never managed to afford Beef Wellington in a restaurant and we thought we would muck it up at home, but the Angel has given us the solution to our problems. If we have friends to the back garden for dinner maybe we can claim the credit! No, I think we will be back for the lamb en croute, just for ourselves!More
