Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Sunday roast buffet at the Royal George has long been a favourite of my parents. Now they are 92 and 93 years old they are mostly housebound. The last time they were there was in July for their 70 wedding anniversary. So as a...surprise as they couldn’t go to the buffet I arranged to collect food from the roast buffet to take to them. The staff could not have been kinder and actually provided me with plates and carefully wrapped everything including gravy for me. My parents were absolutely delighted and mum shed a tear when I told her how lovely all the staff were. Thank you to John, Dean and all the staff you made my parents day with your kindness and wonderful delicious food.More

We had to be at the theatre at 7.15pm and booked a table for 6 people at the Royal George for 5.45pm. We arrived st 5.40pm, got drinks, ordered food and then were told the kitchen wasn’t taking any more food orders for 20 mins...as they were busy / strange the pub was reasonably quiet. We waited over 1hr but still no food. We obviously were very anxious, not to say hungry but the ‘manager’ said they had a big booking up stairs and a table of 17 people so were busy. I said, but you knew you had those bookings and would be busy so why are you taking more bookings when you can’t cope. We eventually had to go as we would have been late for the theatre. We stopped at a chippy on the way and shared some chips. What an horrendous experience at the #Royalgeorge. Management and organisational skills NIL. How anyone can run a business like that is beyond me. I highly recommend you all take a wide berth of this placeMore

Had a family Sunday lunch, 16 people (14 adults and 2 children) booking process was easy and was met by friendly and helpful staff, everything was explained and seating arrangements were flexible. Drinks and food was lovely with a great carvery. Only two criticisms, disabled...parking is limited, 3 spaces but only 2 really useable which caused a problem for 1 member of our party, the other was that it was incredibly warm where we were say without the ability to open a window. Overall however everyone enjoyed, thank you.More

We were a party of 17 and booked in for early evening. When we arrived nobody was dining. We ordered our meals and within 1/2 hour we seemed to be surrounded by other diners eating. Another 30 mins later and we were served with our...over cooked cheese and onion pie in hard pastry. Unbelievably after waiting so long we then had to request condiments!! Some of the party were complaining about the lager but I found the bitter good. I’m not saying we wouldn’t return but we certainly won’t be rushing backMore

Visited this pub for a family gathering 3/11/2023 . It all seemed to go wrong from the start . Two of us were driving - we ordered two bottles of alcohol free lager . They arrived and were clearly not alcohol free . Luckily I...checked before drinking , but I shouldn’t have had to , and feel the staff should not have made such a big mistake . The lady behind the bar exchanged them no problem , which was great , but it should not have happened in the first place . Food - ordered at 1pm and didn’t arrive until 1.50pm . Fifty minutes is too long to wait . No apology until I had to ask how long would the food be . Communication from the staff and apologies for the delay prior to food arriving would have helped . Myself and my Niece both had the whitebait - we have both been ill . I will not be returning.More

Visited the Royal George after the lovely makeover and sat in the re-furbished restaurant area. I was one of a party of eighteen and everyone in the party enjoyed their meals which consisted of a variety of dishes and all said they will be returning....The staff were lovely as always and couldn't have been more helpful.More

Stopped in yesterday with friends to have some food…that was the first mistake that was made. Placed an order for the ‘chicken fries’ which was 5 chicken strips (that are either undercooked or overcooked…landlady is the chef apparently which is one of the many issues)...a quarter of a tortilla wrap and a single lettuce leaf and a side of chips to come out together. Waited 30 minutes and then asked a young man with braces who was working behind the bar if he could check what was happening with our food order and were told that our food order would be the next meal to come out of the kitchen…it was not. The first dish arrived 10 minutes after…one dish after a wait of 40 minutes and it was missing the chips that were ordered alongside it. After asking where the chips and the other 3 orders were, we were told that it would be 10 minutes so we asked that if the chicken fries could be remade as by the times that the chips would arrive, the chicken would be cold (which it already was) and was then told if we wanted a fresh dish we would need to pay for a new dish…never have I heard something so ludicrous in all my life and so we asked for a refund and to speak to the manager who then told us that we could not be given a refund and that it was wrong of us to assume that our food would all come out at once and then when we explained why this was unacceptable, he rolled his eyes.…he clearly has not worked in hospitality long as any other establishment would understand that if your customers had waited just under an hour for their meal and was not told at any moment if there was a specific waiting time for food and if bits of your meal are missing, you would be given a refund, or an apology and a resolution to the problem. The rest of our meals had arrived which was missing sweet potato fries after being made to pay extra for these (which at this point was laughable because so many errors had been made during our entire time here) and mint yoghurt dip for the second order of chicken fries (to quickly be told it doesn’t come with this despite the first order of chicken fries having this….) All in all, it’s clear why they make you pay before receiving your meal, straight up robbery followed by terrible service and the food was mediocre. Stay away, go somewhere else and save your money. Will never be back.More
