Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I came to the pub in December and had a lovely evening with my friends. We had the Xmas fayre menu and it was delightful, many thanks to the chef, we had a wonderful waitress called alice who made our experience, we retuned in January...and was sad to hear alice wasn’t working however we still had a lovely night, hopefully next time I return alice will be there giving her 10/10 customer service.More

Eight of us went for a family get together and I Couldn't fault the food or the staff. Lovely Sunday lunch followed by the best Eton Mess we've ever had.

Been going to the Bakers for years, had my husbands 50th birthday meal a few years back with family, couldn't fault, delicious food, great service. Same to be said for numerous visits for Sunday lunch and evening meals. Unfortunately after looking forward to not cooking...dinner at home, we were disappointed with todays Sunday lunch. Moved table due to the cold draught, not enough choice on the wine list for Rose, starters were average, main course was poor, the so called "cauliflower and brocolli cheese" consisted only of cauliflower, which was so hard, could barely eat it, couldn't see or taste any cheese, it was so dry. Potatoes were very bland, gravy was watery runny and temperature was just warm. Had desserts, crumble was nice, again temperature was barely warm for the custard. Overall for a regularly visited great place to eat and drink, felt very disappointed today, after checking the bill, 2 extra pints had been added in error, staff did rectify no problem, and felt £150 for 4 of us was very overpriced for the poor quality.More

Booked a table for our son’s graduation as our usual go to restaurant is closed for refurbishment and not disappointed. The service and food were exceptional, we particularly liked the Richard III pie Although the table was a bit of a squeeze for 8 of...us, the service and food certainly made up for it I have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant.More

Ok so booked the psychic evening for mums Mother’s Day present, she likes stuff spread throughout the year. Paid the deposit and told the final amount would be taken from the same card on the day of event, no issues there in park with other...establishments. The 5/6 course meal…. Disappointing to say the least, all served at room temperature, lacking taste and quality. Smoked salmon gravlax…. Nice wording for what was actually smoked salmon straight from the packet rolled in to circles, no dill or seasoning near it. The gazpacho just needed some tortillas to dip in because it was actually just a salsa sauce! Pork over cooked and no crispy crackling and let’s be fair it’s all about the cracking. The pub cannot be responsible for the psychics which we’re probably some folk from and old folks home out on a jolly. But the icing on the cake was getting a call some 5 minutes after leaving to say we hadn’t paid our bill! MORTIFIED. Obviously paid in fall but the slant in my character nearly as hard to swallow as the food! Not to be repeated! Fancy names like amuse bouche, palette cleanser and gravlax should really be used by those that can produce the products they advertise! What a crock!More

Wanted to get out of the city centre and try somewhere new and this place had good reviews. The food wasn't bad but for the prices I was expecting a little bit more from it. I had the tiger pie and partner had the duck,...both fine but a little underwhelming. Delightful banoffee pie. Main issue by far is the height of the ceilings, if you're 6 foot or over you have to walk like some kind of ogre to get out the building to the loo. Smacked my head hard on a beam coming back in. If you live local worth a visit, if not then wouldn't bother.More

I have always loved eating at The Bakers arms and have always thoroughly enjoyed the food. Yesterday I visited with my friend for a pre Christmas get together. As usual the pub looked absolutely beautiful. The staff are lovely and very smartly turned out. Like...everywhere else, there are price hikes. Sadly, most of the food wasn’t very enjoyable. We both had the scotch egg for starters. The texture of the pork was the texture of raw sausage meat. It actually made me gag. We asked the chef to check it was cooked properly and apparently it was. It was barely warm and the meat was slimy and unpleasant. Sue had the lamb which was delicious and nicely cooked. I had the burger which again, was not nice. The meat had an unpleasant texture and wasn’t very juicy. Everything else about it was nice and the bacon was lovely. It just seemed like my starter and main was a waste of money. We ordered a sharing cheese board at just under £15 for dessert. The cheese was delicious but for the money we had three pieces of cheese each, four crackers, a small dish of chutney and far too much butter for a few crackers. There was also some celery. It used to be far better and used to include grapes. We felt that was a ridiculous price for what we got. We were only drinking lime and soda and our bill was £75. The waiter was helpful when we told him the issue we had with the starters. Sadly though, I won’t be coming back to eat. Everyone is having to adjust to the cost of living. We expect food to go up in cost but not for the quality to go down. I don’t know if the chef has changed since we last went pre covid. Yesterday’s meal wasn’t a patch on previous meals.More

I found the staff friendly, caring about allergies and helpful to a partially sighted person placing me near a window or well lit area. The food especially the risotto was excellent as were the fish dishes. A mains can be 19 pounds only. the menu...has gf and df notices.More

At least I will remember where I was when it was announced our queen had died... eating a substandard meal at this place!..we eat out a lot and having had a great meal here 5 years ago persuaded my partner to give it a try.As...we have a small dog was only able to sit in the bar..no problem with that...my partner ordered the catch of the day and I ordered the mixed salad..added on protein of the day... smoked salmon, don't worry if you can't see it on the picture...I struggled to see it too!..the sun-dried tomatoes.. roasted peppers and toasted nuts described on the menu were absent...it was basically a packet of salad leaves in a basket. My partner returned my meal confirming it was not as described.A new salad returned after my partner had finished his meal..more of the same ...with additional 2 sun-dried tomatoes...no roasted nuts and about a full pack of smoked salmon thrown on..My partners catch of the day must have been a prepandemic catch...he rated it 3 out of 10... since then it has resided in the freezer....just so disappointing.Lots of intoxicated local people though no doubt increasing the profit margin here on a Thursday night...perhaps just stick to that. Now we know why we were the only ones eating on the bar..... everyone knows. We will never return and hopefully places like this will be exposed by social media...just awful! Warning sign should have been that all bar meals are served in a basket., thought this went out in the eighties!More

Booked a table for 5 for Mothering Sunday via email on the 5th of March 2022, which was confirmed. I was meeting up with friends who I hadn't seen in a long time and their disabled daughter. One of whom has recently suffered a recent...bereavement. When we arrived there was no record of my booking leaving me to doubt, myself if I had ever made one. I found the email which was scrutinised in detail, but no reason or apology was given for not having a table in the restaurant. After a wait a table was set for us in the bar, which was not what we wanted but we settled for it, as it was unlikely that we could find anywhere else. Apart from the fact that the Yorkshire Puddings were cold the food was good. But we ended up leaving early due to the noise in the bar, the dogs roaming around and draught from the fire escape which was constantly being opened. Not really what we wanted and did kind of spoil the day. A family who sat behind us in the bar hd the same experience and and weren't given the chance to eat, which ruined there Sunday too. Emailed the restaurant 2 weeks ago asking for an explanation for which I am still waiting for , let alone an apology. Neither me or my friends will be returning and if you do book, I would advise you to check in advance that the reservation has actually been made.More

This was my first time at the Bakers Arms but it certainly won't be my last! My visit was for a work Christmas lunch and these can usually be hit and miss. Certainly not at the Bakers! Both the food and the service were exceptional....If they can do this for a Christmas party I can't wait to visit for a "normal" meal. Great stuff! Wouldn't hesitate to recommendMore

We went there for a meal as my wife has been there a few times with her friend. The meal I had was well overcooked and dry. The risotto my wife had was more like thick porridge. They took it back and returned with another...one half an hour later that was a bit better. No mention of apology etc apart from the young waitress who you have to feel sorry for. There were only half a dozen people in so it would have been more professional for the chef to come out and apologise. No discount on the bill for the poor food. Won’t be rushing back there any time soon. Extremely disappointedMore
