Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Highly recommend a stay at Bell cottages! The pictures online really don’t do the cottage justice in reality - it’s really gorgeous and kept to such a lovely standard. Has everything you need with lounge/diner, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom with double bed and a single bed...and even a garden. Lots of little touches made a special stay - fresh flowers on the table and milk/cereal in the kitchen in case you arrive late. Rashieda was always on hand to check we were ok and went above and beyond helping with any requests we had. If you’re attending a wedding at Walkern Hall it’s the perfect location as well - a lovely village/country walk gets you there in 15 minutes with good/easy walking route. Pub still closed at the moment but you can get takeaway. Thanks again for a lovely stay!More

Just had parents 80th birthday party there with friends and family. Food was amazing, owners were perfect hosts and the environment was just perfect. Couldn’t have asked for a better place for their celebration . Additionally they have recently completed 2 barn conversion apartments which...I stayed in. They are lovely and completed to a high standard, so if you want or need Accommodation in the area, you will not be disappointed. They provided essentials for a continental breakfast and then we just walked 10 yards to the pub for Sunday lunch. Many of our guests had never been there before, but all have said what a wonderful place, hosts and food and all have said they will return. Well done R and R, perfectMore

We had been trying to get into the Bell for a while, however, it was a challenge to find it open!! Finally, during a walk around Bennington we found it open and popped in for some lunch. We had the creole chicken, calypso rice and...roti accompanied with a couple of well poured beers. Lovely village pub serving excellent food with a sociable and friendly host!! Will definitely call in again to try the rest of the menu, that is if its open :-)More

Simply delicious. The style of the food is less intense than most Indian foods, but just as flavoursome. I had the chicken creole, which is marinated chicken in a delectable, aromatic spiced sauce. It is slow cooked, but maintains its texture. We also had rice,...chickpeas and potatos, plantain (which is fried banana that goes well with the main food) and roti bread (which is very thin bread). For dessert I had pineapple upside-down cake, which is unlike other upside-down cakes as others are very heavy and stodgy, but this is very light and fluffy. The staff are extremely friendly, welcoming and engaging. All of the food is homecooked to perfection. I would highly recommend The Bell for a fantastic meal.More

What a fantastic experience. All the family enjoyed a variety of delicious, plentiful Creole dishes. Every plate was devoured, with audible gasps of delight. Our favourites were the Creole chicken, Creole fish and goat, with plantain on the side. The hosts were truly welcoming. In...all a most excellent evening. Highly recommend.More

After a winter walk 11 of us had lunch here, great menu, pub usual and Trinidadian specialities like the popular goat curry and creole chicken. Food was so good most people had the speciality puddings, this is very unusual for our group. They don't usually...do Wedmesday lunch but do do special arrangements for groups. Afterwards some of us went outside to see the public seating and the extensive garden and escape chickens!More

Was just driving by and saw they were serving Carribbean good so dropped in for lunch. Old pub, Freehold, listed building with original murals on walls above fire place. Friendly couple run the pub serving homemade Carribbean food and very welcoming. We had curried goat,...creole beef, creole rice and a lentil dish, which was nice and great value. We were the only customers, after speaking with the landlady she said they get more customers in the evenings and weekends when they mostly host events or passing cyclists. Really lovely people, who filled us in on the history of the pub. Made a change from the normal chain pubs and was an interesting afternoon. Lovely pub garden out the back and good parking.More

We visited as a family today and were very pleasantly surprised by this local gem! The Trinidadian food was delicious and freshly cooked, lots of curries and creole food. We ordered almost one of everything and loved every dish. The staff were really friendly and...very good at recommending the right amount of dishes for our party of seven. Would definitely recommend the cassava and coconut pudding which was a bit different, but very tasty!More

It was 6.15 in the evening and we had just finished a 6 miles walk. We had noticed at the start of our walk opposite the church in Benington an A board which was advertising caribbean food at the Bell pub in the village. We...decided to eat there and were not disappointed. A very friendly welcome was followed by a delicious meal complemented by a tasty local real ale. Mine host Raffie kept us entertained whilst his wife Rashieda who is the chef was cooking creole/caribbean in the kitchen. A lovely pub with delightful owners and wonderful food - we shall return ! Thank you both. John, Jane and ColinMore

Myself and my boyfriend went to ‘the bell’ for an early dinner. Walked in and felt so welcome and was chatting away with the owner who is so friendly. The food ‘WOW’ the chicken curry was cooked beautifully along with rice and roti. My boyfriend...had the lamb and said it was great. We were offered some hot sauces which was great for the food we were eating and didnt need to ask for anything as it was already offered or already given. To join the great mains was a great dessert. Great place. Would definitely recommend!More

My girlfriend and I have just got a place together in Knebworth early June and have been meaning to come here for a while, what can I say it was well worth the wait! Benington is a lovely little area. The food was impeccable and...so was the service. The landlord was really friendly! I’d recommend the Lamb Curry, Roti and Caylpso Rice! The Coconut brownie was a bit special too! Will definitely come back very soon 👍🏽More

This is really sad. The owners closed it when their custom dropped off a cliff and all the locals did was complain,
