After a morning of wandering around a medieval village, we went to the village of Martel for lunch at the restaurant Plein Sud. We sat outside under the umbrellas in the market square. The staff were friendly and the food was presented to a table of nine very quickly. We all gave the restaurant our tick of approval.

We all dined here two years ago and debated whether to try another restaurant this time. After all,you are spoilt for choice here in this lovely little town! There are inviting tables and waiters at every corner ............ But ,as often happens,we plumped for what we knew and also that lots of locals were beating an early path to this... More

We thoroughly enjoyed sitting outside here in the market square enjoying the atmosphere. The food was good and reasonably priced.

Sat inside on a day when it was a little wet and ordered pizza italienne which turned out to be a ready made pizza base covered in a tin of tomatoes ( almost cold) with pieces of cold ham and parmesan cheese. Probably the worst meal I have ever had in many years of travel to France.

A delightful family runs this establishment with many outdoor tables. The menu is not unusual ( pizza, salads, and main dishes as well), but their offerings were delicious and speedily presented. Be sure and make reservations!

Good pizza, but very quiet when we went. Not the best value for money, and apparently the licence only allowed us to have a glass of wine / beer if we ordered food which was a shame, because it is a nice setting to sit on the square for a glass of wine.

Food here gets better and better. Pizzas are excellent and the meat and fish dishes are very good too. This is fun, casual dining at its best and prices are reasonable too.

By bad planning, we were in Martel on a Wednesday night in early April. Apart from the expensive hotel/restaurant, every other eating place was shut. So we had no choice but to go to this place or go hungry. In the middle of the night, we both wished we had gone hungry. The apparently attractive "suggestion du jour" seemed all... More

Martel is a cute little town in the Dordogne and we ended up here for lunch quite by chance. Plein Sud has charming village courtyard dining in a beautiful old square in the town. It probably gets quite crowded in peak season, but it was just perfect on this sunny September day. The service is both French and friendly (always... More
