We were finally able to rebook our stay here from 2 years ago and enjoyed a stay in one of the Garden Rooms. The rooms are spacious, amazing, large bathroom with huge walk-in shower and very quiet, far enough away from the busy road. The...pub has a good reputation for food – we had a tasty meal and great cooked breakfast in the morning. Breakfast choices are limited, but tasty – I think just 5 options with tea/coffee and fruit juice. The pub is going through some staffing changes and it took 3 phone calls and 2 emails to get our booking confirmed – we nearly gave up, but glad we preserved – thanks to Tom for his help! It is a 10-minute walk to Bombay Sapphire, along the road and Hardy’s plant nursery less than a minute drive along the same lane. We really enjoyed our stay – there’s room for improvement here with the staffing issues – all staff we encountered were really friendly and helpful and working hard. Some areas need a deep clean – pub tables were really sticky and wardrobes were really dusty inside (rest of room super) and the door numbers on the external doors of the garden rooms were all covered in cobwebs, as was the bathroom window. In general, the main pub is looking quite tired and in need of refurbishment – something the new Manager is aware of.More

With a small menu it is important not to run out. On this occasion even with a 7:30 booking, we could not have two of the main courses on the menu. However it meant that we tried the spare ribs. They were delicious. Slightly miffed...that we were charged for bread and butter to go with the excellent white crab. I had thought a couple of slices of wholemeal or rye bread would have been automatic. This is very good pub rather than a Michelin-starred restaurant and so I can forgive its occasional glitches.More

We stayed one night as a short break. The room was excellent and everything worked . The shower was good. The evening meal was well prepared and excellent. The local beer again was good. I had several. The staff were attentive and welcoming. The breakfast...was cooked individually which was good. Again the service was on time and great. My two friends and I stayed here for a night when visiting the Bombay Sapphire Distillery, only 15 minutes walk away. The staff were so attentive, friendly and couldn’t do enough for us, our meal was beautiful and the room itself was spotless. The beds...were very comfortable and the setting was so picturesque. I stayed here overnight with a friend . We had a lovely sunday lunch ( check if they are doing roasts if you want one) before a walk to the Bombay Distillery which at a leisurely place was only 10-15 mins on a pavement alongside...the road outside the Inn. The food was beautifully presented for lunch and breakfast and tasted good. The room was clean , it had comfortable beds , usual tea coffee, lovely biscuits, bottled water! If you like plants, Hardy's plants is just up the road. A special mention to the staff, every one of them was excellent including housekeeping, bar and restaurant team and bar manager. They were attentive without being annoying; informative, anticipated every need. Quite brilliant. Thank you for a brilliant stay. If you like character olde worlde.. stay in the main building which has modern rooms with a more country style ( white crisp linen modern paint colours etc modern bathroom, in old setting) ( ask about the ensuite, some have a split vertically door, some a more solid door , if it bothers you), if you like high quality timber garden rooms ( inside they are plastered so do not feel like timber cabins) which are new with high quality modern fittings stay in the garden! I don't think my description does it justice.More
