Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were staying in Walmer for a holiday and were delighted to find such a welcoming pub. Dog friendly and with a good choice of beers and spirits etc AND opposite the beach - what more could you wish for. Good to know that whilst...The Stag doesn't do food as such - they offer a range of filled rolls. Ours were fresh and tasty and just the job with a cheeky holiday lunch time beer!More

We called in late afternoon for drinks. The Stag was refurbished prior to lockdown and its very cosy and well laid out. There is a small outside seating area too. The service here is second to none. There is also a Happy Hour Monday to...Friday from 5pm to 7pm, which makes a visit excellent value.More

We booked a lunch at the stag back in Jan this year for my best mates stag lunch, we pre booked our food so we knew what we were having and the pub were more than accommodating, food came out on time and service was...good, the pub was a great place to hang out with darts, pool table, music etc. What was meant to be a 2 hour lunch turned into 6 hours very quickly. So to summarize 'The Stag' was a great place for a Stag Party.More

You can almost do a pub crawl while visiting the two castles, Of the several I sampled that day, I think I enjoyed the people and the atmosphere of the Stag the Best. Cold beer and an enjoyable setting on a nice day.

We were travelling through the area and decided to explore for a lunch stop. The menu looked appealing so we went in. We were seated without issue and ordered quickly, the food was mediocre at best. I ordered the 'stag' sandwich and my Wife the...Ploughmans. We both ordered a side of chips as we were feeling naughty. My wife's Ploughmans was generous and she quite enjoyed it, my sandwich was pretty disappointing; for a 6£ sandwich I expected a little more, barely cooked sausages and very bland black pudding. The chips were soggy and greasy. The ideas are good, the execution average at best. Service was average and don't sit to close to the toilets they bring the whole atmosphere down! Walk further up the street there are plenty of other choicesMore

My partner and I travelling from Canada decided to eat here as it was a close walk from where we were staying. The menu made the food look promising; I had the chicken burger and chips and my parter had the cheeseburger and chips. It...was awful. Both the chicken and burger looked and tasted like it was frozen beforehand. We were so glad we asked for lettuce and tomato on it as well or else it would have been just a very dry bun and gross meat. The chips were actually really good. It was reasonably priced but not worth it at all. If it's close to where you are staying just do the extra ten minute of a walk to find something else. I wish we had.More

Me and my partner booked a table in the Stag because we both have Tastercards and this pub was on the offer. Very excited to try pie and chips and burger and chips, we got rather shocked to get two plates full of frozen and...microwaved food. Not to mention the restaurant has a massive sign saying 'great home cooked food' outside. Prices pretty low for pub food but I would not even give for those two horrific meals that much. We asked for mayo but what we got was mayo mixed with salad cream, therefore tasted absolutely disgusting and soon realised that ketchup had vinegar in it. We were tempted to return both plates back but thought that as it's our first time we won't... Not coming back for sure, maybe for a glass of coke which was the only pleasant thing about the dinner! Really shame as we were excited to have something nice this close to where we live, we will probably walk 20 minutes to Spoons next time!More

Is there anything you can do wrong by preparing a pub burger? Yes you can, the Stag proved it. You take a bun as old as your grandma and you don't toast the bun you don't even warm it so that the poor little piece...of artificial cheese stays so cold that it doesn't even melt a little bit. One of the worst burgers we've ever eaten. The chips were ok. But the plate looked so stinted, not even a single leaf of persil, lettuce or a tastless slice of Holland tomatoe was added as a decoration. Great website and the menue is really stylish. Must have been a really good graphic designer at work...More
