Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Darling Square restaraunt. Holidaying in Sydney for significant birthday and Christmas . Walked by at 9 pm and they were still serving. The food was probably the best Thai meal we have experienced in 20 yrs. We all ordered different entrees and mains, and shared...dessert. Tasted them all. Each dish had amazing flavour and presentation. House drinks also special. The atmosphere was also fantastic. Immaculately decorated and clean. Staff attentive, efficient and friendly. Topped off a great boxing day and holiday. Thank you Holy Basil.More

Ordered ginger Chicken. Meal came with Asian fungus not mushrooms as stated on the menu. Told waitress I am extremely allergic to this fungus and sent it back. She came back after 10 - 15 mins with new meal less fungus. I asked if this...was a new cooked meal and that they had not simply removed the fungus and she assured me it a new meal. I had a spoonful from the dish and it was cold. it was obviously the original meal. No duty of care.More

Excellent Thai restaurant. The snapper is surely their signature dish and is amazing. But all the rest is extraordinary also.

Not authentic Thai food and very average and quite expensive. I was disappointed when I ordered green mango salad but was given green apple salad and was told green mangos are not in season when I asked. We are in the middle of the mango...season. There are plenty of green mangos in Asian grocery shops so I don't think that's is the excuse. Other dishes we ordered were very average, not tasty as it used to be. Staff was rude when given feedback.More

This food is made for westerners it’s not authentic Thai food it’s very average. The service was crap they move like snails I’m actually really disappointed with this place I have been there before and it was ok this time it was absolutely horrible, I...will say that the drinks were amazing probably the only thing I enjoyed. They had the cheek to charge us $13.00 for us to bring in our own cake to the restaurant as it was my nieces birthday What a bunch of scumbags wasn’t good enough that my bill was over $800 wont ever be eating at this place ever againMore

My Favourite dish is ox tongue as many places that serve this do not cook it well. It can be rubbery and chewy if cooked too long however, you shouldn’t have that problem here. Even the fruit shakes are great; I’ve tried almost all of...them so you can’t go wrong with any of the fruit shakes (I’m not sure about strawberry though) To be honest, from the fried rice to the curries, fried foods or even the noodles, you’re most likely getting a Thai-riffic experience. Pick and discover the dishes that you like! Have a scroll through my photos and notice vast amount of fresh herbs and greens used in each delightful dish. ⁣☘More

I knew it was mother's day and I ordered 2 days before. They confirmed my order and when I got there, they didn't have my name or my order at all. Do NOT offer services like takeaway or delivery if you can not plan properly. they...ruined my whole mother's day dinner for my family.More

Finally I made it back to Holy Basil last night! I was overwhelmed at how beautiful the restaurant looked, beautiful decor, great job to the design team 10/10! It was full and I was prepared to wait but we were seated immediately- fantastic! I couldn’t...wait to have the food with my niece! I have raved about this restaurant to her for so long! We ordered and chatted, three others tables arrived after us and received their orders, I thought what’s going on? Asked the waitress when’s our food arriving and I must say they were very apologetic but the waiter had lost our order so on top of the 25 minutes we already waited we where asked to wait another 10-15? I wasn’t going to wait! I feel disgraced, discriminated and disrespected! I’m not Asian but I love your food and sad to say so much effort in presentation and no delivery! No I won’t be back, yes I understand mistakes happen but we had waiters pass many times that could have questioned where our order was, so sorry no excuses acceptable. Not one person is responsible for this the whole team is!More

Whenever we get a group of friends together we love to dine at Holy Basil. The food is excellent and the atmosphere enjoyable. Our favourite dish, the deep fried snapper is always great. Bookings are essential and its best to get there early because of...the popularity of the restaurant. Car parking can also be a challenge but there are car parks nearby.More

Holy Basil is a Thai Dining institution. When I was recommended by the family to arrive 30 minutes before opening time, they were not wrong. There was already a huge line outside, with people keen to get their table. By the time we left, there...were lines around the corner. We were at the Canley Heights location, but there’s also a store in Parramatta and in the Shark hotel, Sydney. It is a Laotian and Thai inspired restaurant with a range of signature dishes as well as your favourites. The space is quite large, has recently been renovated with purple velveteen seats and plenty of Thai golden statues that makes it feel like a sophisticated dining space. It’s appropriate for a party or event too, and they do have a bar where you can order cocktails or some of their amazing icy fruit frappes. In a big dining party, we shared a range of dishes beginning with satay skewers, curry puffs and spring rolls, golden and crispy. For the mains, the dishes were super good with well developed and interesting flavours. We had green curry, masaman curry, pad keemau and very high quality chicken cashew nut. Packing with sauce, this is some of the best Thai food going around in Sydney. The standout was the whole crispy fish with mango and apple and papaya salad, crispy fish topped with a refreshing salad mix. Now you cannot depart without also having some deep fried ice cream. Not the crumbed round ball you might have experienced at your local restaurant ten years ago, rather a huge light pastry filled triangle topped with caramel sauce and coconut crunchies. We highly recommend paying this place a visit.More
