We hadn't been to the tea rooms for quite some time and so, decided to take some friends for afternoon tea. We were so pleased to find that the standard of food was still as good as ever, as was the service. There was an assortment of sandwiches and savouries, all served on beautiful bone china. We were then served... More

Scrumptious Afternoon Tea for 12 of us at this delightful Station Tea Room. Nothing was too much trouble from the friendly staff and the abundance of sandwiches and cakes were absolutely delicious. The ambience and little touches everywhere added to the vintage Afternoon Tea experience. Highly recommend this Tea Room and travel there by train for an extra little adventure.

We went here for Afternoon Tea as a different treat having reserved previously. It was a great step back in time with beautiful crockery, excellent service and fabulous food. Great value for money.

We went for afternoon. The tea and cakes were excellent and so was the service. Would recommend this place and the odd train passing really pleased our little 3 year old.

This small cafe at a working station is a throw back to my youth. It is quaint, a bit cluttered but fascinating. My friends just wanted tea and scones, having been unable to finish the afternoon tea last time they went, but after a journey and no lunch I really enjoyed it. The sandwiches were fresh and had a good... More

Thank you so much Pauline, couldn't have been better. You really went the extra mile to make this special for my mother in laws 98th birthday. The whole family really enjoyed the plentiful tasty sandwiches, sumptuous scones with lashing of jam and clotted cream, and lovely cake selection. The beautiful china, masses of fresh cut flowers, and background music in... More

That's how I feel following a visit to the tea rooms. lovely retro design great friendly staff wonderful food scones to die for but all the food looked scrumptious. totally chilled out with the 40 50 60's music gently playing in the background. couldn't eat it all so was sent home with a doggy bag of cakes. reasonably priced I... On a pleasant sunny afternoon we visited for the first time, without a prior reservation, and were very impressed. Whilst a relatively small range of food - soups, sandwiches, paninis and two specials as well as afternoon and cream teas - the food was excellent. My wife and I both had the leek and potato soup with delicious bread -... More

My first visit to this charming railway station was as part of a Bedford Heritage Open Day last year. I took a guided tour around the station and viewed some British Rail paraphernalia. The tea rooms are classic vintage, like from another era. While it can be a bit dear, the waitresses serve an excellent afternoon tea. For my visit,... More

Description
Delightful Tea Room - situated in the former Victorian (1846) Ridgmont Railway Station building, with its distinctive Cottage Orné Gothic architecture. Menu currently offers soups, jacket potatoes, freshly made sandwiches, toasted paninis, plus our cakes and cream teas as available. Ask about the special occasion cream tea available to book. Not open Mondays. The Tea Rooms are located in the same building as a small Heritage Centre run by volunteers (closed Sundays and Mondays). A small gift shop sells railway themed books - both new and pre-read, toys, and a small but changing selection of new and 'used but good' 00, O and G scale model railway items. The former booking office is being restored and is open (with the gift shop) to visitors when volunteers are available. The main car park is situated on other side of the railway line, but we also benefit from an hourly train service from Bedford and Bletchley, as well as other stations on the Marston Vale line - built by Robert Stephenson and described by author Colin Garratt as one of "The Great Train Journeys of the World". Please note there is no Sunday train service unless a special event service arranged - see local press for details. It's advisable to phone ahead for availability.
