Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lovely friendly local pub with superb food. Dogs welcomed too! Excellent seafood prepared simply but very very well. Take aways also avaliable. Good selection of canned beers in fridge as well as some on pumps.

Excellent find. Never been in here under previous ownership as it wasn’t dog friendly but it certainly is now. Friendly staff and locals, good to be made welcome as soon as you walk through the door. Can’t fault the atmosphere or surroundings, a simple unspoilt...place. The food was superb both times we’ve eaten there this week; sea bass and especially the fish and chips couldn’t be faulted. We shall be back again soon.More

Visited on the 21st August for dinner with friends. We had cracked crab claws, scallops and shelled crab claw salad followed by lovely desserts. Excellent food and service.

This was an unexpected stop with 3 generations of family from 1 year to 65. Gave us the use of the lounge to ourselves for lunch, And What a Lunch! The haggis neeps and tatties even impressed my daughter's French Chef boyfriend. The fish and...chips were excellent. But the cracked crab claws, caught fresh by the owner's own father were absolutely wonderful. Even the super seafood interested Swedish part of the family declared that they had never eaten better. This place alone is worth coming to Portnahaven for. Add in the seals and the scenery and it's a must! I just can't say how much we enjoyed it, but in English, French and Swedish We DID!More

Perfect lunch. Best fish and chips I’ve had in a long time. The wife’s sandwich was also delicious. The beer (Caledonia?) was also good. Really nice lady in charge and the chef cooked beautifully. Cannot recommend it enough. My first visit there, but as we...come to Islay we will, to quote General MacArthur, return.More

Had a lovely lunch here after a walk round the village. Nice selection on offer we opted for filled baguettes and very tasty Cullen skink to share. Can feel cosy in the main bar but we loved speaking to the locals in for an afternoon...pint! Didn’t have room for dessert but took a couple of empire biscuits home for later and confirm they were delicious. Looking forward to coming back next time!More

Great little pub at the end of the world, well Portnahaven Islay. Well priced drinks but the lunch wasn’t as good as we would have liked. The lady who runs and is new to the place is giving it a real go and we wish...her and her team the best of luck for the future. I hope Megan makes a real success of the place. We have been there under different ownership , many times over the last few decades and is a real gem of a place to visit , very off the track and a real delight.More

Gorgeous place to be, relaxed and friendly, clean and simple. The food was delicious, fresh and beautifully balanced. Chef will accommodate for vegans and vegetarians beautifully. He made me a roast veg tartlet that was beautifully seasoned. Plenty of drinks available, as well as outdoor...seating if you're lucky enough to get some Portnahaven sunshine, where you can sit ten yards from the bar where you'll see the seals and the fishing boats living in harmony. Thanks to Caleb, Ruth and Meghan for the lovely experience!More

We heard about this place from the Port Charlotte hotel (who don't allow dogs in the bar). We managed to get a taxi down from Bruichladdich with my wee poodle and it was absolutely worth the trip. There is such a warm and friendly atmosphere,...and despite being small the place had a buzz. The food was great.More

Great small pub environment. Book ahead. The main components of the meal were excellent. Scallops were perfect. Some improvement on the quality of the veg sides would make this place 5/5.

This is a charming and intimate, traditional Pub in one of the most enchanting fishing villages in the UK. It can be a bit daunting walking into a ‘local’ but An-tigh Seinnse is so friendly and warm, that any trepidation is quickly dispelled. There is...a lively atmosphere, and a magic about it. The food is fantastic (the seafood!) and extreme value for money, and is caught locally - you may even be lucky enough to meet the fisherman as I did! The Team are wonderfully obliging and really look after you. This place is perfect for combined effort of food and a ‘craic’ for a great night or afternoon- and maintains the historic tradition and culture of Islay perfectly. I would advise booking as there are limited spaces. Can’t wait to go back.More
