Enjoyed a superb night as the good and great of Shipton Gorge cooked against each other in a competition. The Landlords (Jody & Elliot) hosting the night set up the pub and hosted the diners as the locals cooked the food and waited on. It was brilliant fun the atmosphere was warm and friendly and there was stacks to get your teeth into. Delicious food, lovely wines, daft foodie quiz in one of the best venues in West Dorset. Worth trying out yourselves and although you might not encounter a food competition there’s Skittles on a Wednesday and Darts on Thursdays plus lots of other stuff going on.

For a struggling village pup this one is now doing great things for both the community and the tourist industry. It has a limited menu for now but everything served is top quality and it actually has a sensible and affordable kids menu. And the atmosphere is so improved from the previous tenants. Everyone is made to feel welcome including dogs. Can't wait to go again. Maybe more choice on the menu.

My family and I had a wonderful Sunday lunch at The New Inn at Shipton Gorge. We felt extremely safe and comfortable under the current regulations. The new landlords have thought extremely carefully about the layout in order to ensure that everyone feels at ease. The food was absolutely delicious - very fresh and good size portions. Nothing was too much trouble - all staff were attentive and the whole atmosphere was very friendly and enjoyable. This was our first meal out as a family during the current Covid restrictions and we were very impressed. Thank you for making it such a great experience for us all. We will be back!!

We were looking for somewhere to eat on a Monday night and many places were either not serving food or fully booked. We came here and it was great! Really friendly staff, quick service and lovely food. We both had a pasta dish which was prefect in flavour and size and my husband had the sticky toffee pudding. I do not usually have deserts but would have fought him for this one - delicious and home made too! We learnt it was a pub owned by the community and what a great idea, we loved it!

We had a recommendation from a waitress at The Three Horseshoes as we wanted a Sunday roast and had left it slightly late it being Friday every restaurant in the area were booked. When we called they were fully booked but said they would keep the kitchen open later so booked us in for 3pm for 4 adults 2 children which we thought was great. Then in the Sunday my daughter, partner and granddaughter arrived as a surprise visit so had to call them the couldn’t have been more helpful and got us all seated in the restaurant for Sunday roast. Food was amazing I had the beef two huge slices of meat cut in the thick side so tender, three large roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and gravy with a side of Cauliflower Cheese, broccoli and carrott’s. They had run out of the lamb but offered those who ordered it a mix of the beef and pork belly. Puddings were delicious we had bread and butter pudding, cheesecake, rum and raisin ice cream. Would highly recommend this pub for its service and food.

What a lovely warm welcome, COVID procedures well in place but not intrusive. Warm evening, so despite having booked a table in the bar we opted to eat in the lower garden and the table we had reserved in the bar went to others in no time! Enjoyed shared starters of whitebait (hot and crispy, delicious), and duck pate which was served with a nice thick slice of toast and salad. Then all really enjoyed main courses of Fish and Chips, so well done, fresh, light and yummy; Malaysian chicken curry which was also delicious and the crevettes in garlic butter from the specials board, another triumph! First meal of many to be enjoyed at New Inn.

Out walking and stumbled on the New Inn which has recently reopened. Very friendly greeting, Covid protocol handled expediently, enjoyed some really well kept Palmers IPA and excellent sandwiches - bacon and brie superbly cooked, with chips and salad. Staff lovely, very responsive and made us and the dogs very welcome. Nice decor too. Wish them all the best and will be back

The new proprietors have made a wonderful start. Paul Crisp has run several successful pubs and restaurants over 20 years and this pub is now effectively twinned with the truly excellent Anchor Inn in Burton Bradstock. The COVID arrangements are thorough, without making one feel unwelcome We went there with friends and I had their tremendous Steak and Kidney pudding with perfect chips, washed down with a very nice Primitivo. Our evening was enhanced by very good service throughout by local, young waiting and bar staff. This is a wonderful little community pub, well worth straying off the beaten track. Highly recommended. Great lunch menu as well with daily specials. I missed the recent lobster night and look forward to the various planned theme nights in the near future. An all weather outdoor seating and dining area is planned for the COVID menace

I went in for the start of the Christmas celebrations. The local Town Crier from Bridport announced a local girl to turn on the Tree Lights outside the pub. The current team, led by Andrea have made this the absolute heart of the village, with special nights, quizzes and much more. The pub was crowded all evening with a mix of young children singing carols; accompanied by an excellent local musician on his euphonium, infrequent customers as well as a lot of regular diners and drinkers. The atmospher was truly warm and welcoming. They even managed to run a well supported barbecue. On the spot, I booked dinner for my wife and I the next evening. We were warmly greeted by Andrea and her team and had a wonderful dinner. I had a beautifully presented dish of scallops and bacon, dressed nicely with warm bread , followed by a truly memorable belly pork special, with perfect mash and crackling. Unable to manage a pudding, I had a very good cup of coffee. My wife had cauliflower pakoras, plaice fillets and a lovely creamy cointreau cheese cake. The service throughout was excellent and this pub has a young team of local people, learning the licensed trade The Christmas decor, combined with the woodburner and a steady flow of diners made for a very pleasant evening. Situated just off the A35, this pub deserves a brown sign. Highly recommended

Went to the New Inn Italian Night which is one of a series of themed events. The pub is being professionally run by Paul and Kate after a period in the doldrums and it shows. The hospitality is top drawer. On offer was Bread & Dipping Sauce, Olives, Bruschetta, Arancini, Pork & Chicken Main Dishes, Panna Cotta and a wonderful Tiramisu. This was all Covid compliant and safe. On a normal day the pub serves a range of Palmers Real Ale and Pub Grub. The New Inn Sunday Roast is also getting a strong reputation as is their lunch time menu.

Arrived at this pub for a family meal and was met with a friendly welcome however, minimal knowledge of food allergies. Having a coeliac in the party, it was outlined what must be avoided and I must acknowledge that the server attempted to check with the kitchen as for what meal would/would not be suitable. GF roast chicken was ordered. What arrived was roast chicken that was stuffed - after ordering GF roast chicken one should be confident to eat it, however on checking with the server the stuffing was not coeliac friendly!! Please please train your staff in the line of allergies and how important it is to get right!!

After being unable to get a table in the village where we were staying, we called The New Inn who accommodated us straight away. The food was outstanding and the staff were welcoming and very friendly. The landlady didn’t seem to stop all night! The staff at The New Inn were clearly there to support the community and the landlady was openly praising of the staff from the kitchen porters to the chef who was very unassuming despite her expertise. We would heartily recommend this wonderful pub to anyone - local or visitors - and we will be back when we visit Dorset again. Well done everyone!

Went with friends in a Saturday Night. We live in Shipton Gorge and have dined here before under 4 different sets of management and this was the best food by some way. Not fancy but delicious pub food with good menu and specials. We ate Malaysian Chicken Curry, Fish & Chips & Steak and Kidney Pudding (needs mentioning in despatches) followed by Baboo Gelato Ice cream. We drank Palmers Beers and White Wine. The establishment had a great vibe and staff were busy and attentive. Grace who took our order knew the specials and was able to answer any questions we had. Perfect! All reasonably priced and good value.

Gets better and better! Met up with friends on a Saturday Night for grub and drinks. We’ve lived in Shipton Gorge for 8 years and this is the best experience yet. Our ladies shared a bottle of Prosecco and we drank beer, wine then scotch. The food was excellent in every respect; Cauliflower Bhaji and Scallops for starters then Mussels, Belly Pork and Home-Made Beef Burger. The New Inn was busy but service excellent, Andrea and her staff really looked after us. There’s a terrific feel about the place and the ambience is second to none for a West Dorset Village Pub. We’re chuffed this is our local and happy to recommend to people in the area or visitors. Cheers!
