Went for scone and drink at lunch, but won't be back. On arriving, was escorted to table. But then you had to go up and queue with everyone else to get their hot food from the menu waiting on your table. But drinks, scones, traybakes...etc at other counter but not serving there. And why tell the table number when I had to carry the tray to the table myself? So was this table service or not? While lots of people behind the counter, it took an eternity to get any one group served. Maybe because the hot food was being put in the microwave (I'm not sure I want to know why) or it taking 2 people to serve one person. On finally getting served, we got a list of scones, but by time the guy went to lift them my wife's choice was gone. No idea how as no one else was in front of us and it only took him 10-20 seconds to walk back over. The one scone we did get was OK, but any suggestion of being a top notch scone for entering our vote in a competition was never happening. Next time I'm looking food, I'll keep driving.More

Had difficulty finding a cake for my mums 70th Birthday, with her being diabetic. After trying several places my final call before giving up was to Cafe Vicryn. A lovely, very helpful young man named Glen answered. He advised that he would check with the...Baker to see if they could make one. The following day I collected a beautiful chocolate cake decorated with fresh cream and fresh fruit suitable for diabetics. Glen was very professional, kept me updated, and with no bother had gone the extra mile to help. He is an asset to Cafe Vicryn. A big thank you to Glen and the person who baked the beautiful cake it was gorgeous and tasted delicious, thank you for making my mums day...ps we also had a lovely lunch while we were there. Where to begin? Our mother decided to “treat” myself and my sister to lunch. However, soon our joy turned into laughter, and then to severe disappointment. My sister and I shared a “panini” of bacon, Brie and cranberry sauce. Firstly, the “panini” was a baguette...which had been seared then microwaved. The bacon was the best bit, yet had clearly reheated in a microwave. The Brie, was next to non-existent. The cranberry sauce, oh my goodness it was atrocious. Our “panini” was not a generous size for a grand price of £7, half of which was filled with psychedelic blood-like sugary cranberry sauce (with giant chunks of cranberry). First when my sister took a bite I thought she was over exaggerating, for I had not tasted the cranberry sauce yet, it was upon my second bite the true horror of the “panini” had come to fruition. Picture this, expecting to have a bite of creamy Brie, crispy bacon, and tart cranberry sauce, and then instead being met with a taste that resembled sweetened jelly powder. I tried to convince myself that my tastebuds were deceiving me - I fought through the overwhelming taste of sweeties, to attempt to taste the Brie, which in fact I couldn’t find. The bacon flavour barely made it through and the bread was more a sponge for soaking up the cranberry sauce. As you can see from the photo provided, in order to make some attempt at finishing the “panini”, my sister and I had to dissect it and surgically remove what looked like blood clots cranberries. To add to this horror, there was but a sad pile of coleslaw, apparently a pile of crinkle-cut crisps - it wasn’t even to my surprise at this point that there was one solitary crinkle-cut crisp among a variety of other flavoured basic crisps. To top this all off, our mother bravely tried the pink foam substance (we still aren’t sure what it was) and she had to immediately reach for her glass of water to wash away the taste. This experience produced within us both feelings of guilt and shame. Guilt, because our mother (who rarely eats out) was attempting to “treat” us to brunch. She felt guilty at inflicting such a disastrous “panini” on us as a “treat”. Shame, because we are the type of family who NEVER leave food on our plates, yet we were so embarrassed about how it looked like we barely ate anything at all, so we quickly made an exit. In conclusion, the hot food needs serious reform. On a positive note, the staff seemed friendly.More

Oh my word, I was fortunate enough to try the amazing scones for morning tea and then to revisit for lunch. Amazing location, staff and visually stunning food.

We had heard about cafe vic-ryn and their excellent food so as soon as it reopened we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed the quality of the food and the service was second to none. We had the special of the...day which was seafood chowder. It was excellent, plenty of fish and deliciously creamy and the free top ups of coffee were especially welcome. We intend to visit again and try another dish on their extensive menu. Compliments to the chef and the staff.More

My wife and I arrived at around 2:15 pm for a late lunch. The one way in and one way out system was well marked out and worked well. But from that point on the precautions re the Coronavirus were poor. None of the staff...wore masks or visors - and there didn't seem to be any "partition screens" between customers and staff - at the servery. Only a small proportion of customers wore masks - and there were no signs asking them to do so (as with the Ashvale Cafe)! There were about eight or more staff "moving about" - yet there was only one serving customers at the servery - and she spent a long time chatting and laughing with one customer. Eventually, after ten minutes or more, another assistant arrived and took our order. (One male "waiter" spent around ten minutes talking to two young ladies at a table near ours). Unfortunately, there was only a limited choice - for late lunch. As we were sitting down around 2:30 pm - staff had started clearing the dessert cabinet - so we had no opportunity to order from same. My mince pie was the last slice left, was small, and 50% of it was flakey pastry; however, the mince was nice. For "self-service", the cost was around 40% more than we would have paid at Hedleys in the town centre - and the service would have been much better. The rice in my wife's Chicken Curry was quite "chewy" - and not "fluffy/soft" - and there was little Chicken. My previous experiences were much better. We will probably not return anytime soon!More

Arrived with elderly parents for their first trip out post lockdown. Disappointed there was no booking system, we had to wait in a queue and staff did not wear masks or face shields. However, once you are shown to your table they have a great...system in place for ordering and paying for food. Food is super and we all enjoyed it tremendously. We could see that many tables and chairs had been removed to create space between customers but we still felt a little too close to the table beside us. Another 12 inches apart would have helped. All in all a fairly good experience, with helpful staff and lovely food. Just a few adjustments would help make it perfect.More

Awesome! Ill touch on the vegan reviews at the end. With things settling after covid...I was expecting maybe a lull....but no, a que out the door showing this place is good! A packed restaurant is always a good sign! Alot to choose from...big hearty portions...amd very good price wise! The best was the dessert options...huge fan, again big portions! Food cooked beautifully and prompt service with it being so busy...Will definitely be back for lunch! As for Vegan options....people need to understand....places do not have to cater....vegan is a personal choice and also a new trend, its not a medical requirement, these are facts. Ask politely can the chef muster up something...but do not be rude and demand like the entitled people in the cue before me!More
