The overall atmosphere was very nice topped with a waitress that was superb. We started with drinks, fresh rolls, delicious 3 onion soup and a wonderful wedge salad. My medallions Au poivre were out of this world as well as the steaks the others in the party ate. After driving better than an hour to get to Wilder's, we found... More

Wonderful meal with perfectly prepared, aged steaks, and excellent, fresh fish. The Gouda potatoes and wedge salad were killer. Great service and hospitality. Loved the Art Deco bar, which reminds one of how this was once an oasis on the Mother Road (Route 66) on the way out west. A "must-go" fine dining experience in southwest Missouri.

I ate at Wilder's Steakhouse while passing through Joplin, Missouri about a week ago. My AAA Guide to Missouri recommended it, and I am happy to report that I had one of the best steaks I have ever eaten. The restaurant is located on Main Street; it is hard to miss the old-fashioned neon sign out front. Plenty of parking... More

A step back in time. Circa 1930s style decor. Sat quickly and the waiter was on his game. Onion soup was a winner. The truffle fries are good but should be called home made chips. Steaks were cooked properly and tasty to say the least. I would recommend the mushrooms to boot. Nice drink selection.

This restaurant is absolutely wonderful. I highly recommend it for an anniversary or other special occasion (it is on the expensive side so best for a once-in-a-while treat). The atmosphere is incredible; it takes you right back in time but is so nice looking on the inside. The service was excellent as well. As for the food, it's (surprise) also... More

Wilder's does it right! I ordered the 24 oz. bone in rib-eye steak and it was cooked to perfection! I live in Chicago and travel weeKly. Wilder's really knows how to cook a great steak! Phenomenal sides (Brussell sprouts, baby carrots and incredible mac & cheese), this spot would succeed in any major city! My server was phenomenal and I... More

We had the small beef filet and split a salad. Food was excellent. Had a nice selection of craft beers. My wife mentioned off hand that we were going to split a salad the server split it for us and did not place an up charge. That does not happen often. Nice service.

Everyone knows Wilder's is the best restaurant in Joplin Missouri! When you walk in you are walking into history. The restaurant of today is the bar section of the original restaurant. The wonderful wooden booths certainly could relate wonderful stories and facts about Joplin if only they would break their oath of silence! Known for wonderful steaks, Wilder's serves excellent... It has been several years since I was at this place. It has slipped a little over the years. It is still a worth a try. The old wood walls and booths date back to the 50's I'd guess. The food was good but not great. The service was the same.

.....with a lot of stories to tell. Joplin has a wild and sometimes shady side that we have grown to love. It is easy to imagine Bonnie & Clyde having dinner here in their day, in fact they used to live down the street! If you are traveling Route 66, this should be one of your stops.

Description
Wilder's Steakhouse is part of Joplin's past and future. As the third owners of the restaurant we find our selves stewards of a historical piece of the Joplin landscape. Originally opened in 1929 by Mr. Verne Wilder it grew to encompass the 1200 block of main street with banquet facilities, bar, package sales, dining room and featured speak easy functions upstairs. We wish these walls could talk - we have had some really great stories shared by guests of the restaurant. We purchased Wilder's in 1996 and are proud to have uncovered some of the original beauty of the 1908 building we dwell in. As a fine dining restaurant in Joplin we strive to give all of our guests a wonderful dining experience and uphold ourselves to very high standards. Please come in and join us for our hormone and antibiotic free Black Angus Beef or some wonderful Wild Caught Seafood. We are always accepting reservations. See you soon.
