Having spent eleven years in Germany, this is the most authentic German / Austrian restaurant I've encountered in the States. Even the menu is in German (with English explanations ). I don't live in Kansas City, and that is a shame, because this would be my new favorite restaurant. There is a good selection of German /Austrian wines and a... More

As a German-American who travels often to Bavaria and Austria, I miss authentic classics like Käsespätzle, fresh bread and sauerkraut, and good Bier when I'm stateside. Since my husband will be joining me in Vienna for the first time this summer, we treated ourselves to a post-Valentines dinner at Grünauer. The space is the old freight house building in KC's... One a recent visit to KC decided to take a break from the amazing KC BBQ scene and try something different. This place got good ratings on Yelp! so we gave it a try. The ratings were well deserved - this place is excellent! Dinner on a Monday night at 5 pm. Nice location in a historic district, but they... More

This restaurant is located in a large renovated warehouse between two other very successful restaurants. Quite honestly, I hadn't even noticed it before. Now, I wish I'd been more observant. The obviously German-inspired cuisine was all carefully prepared, ample but not excessive and flavorful. The service was attentive without being intrusive. At our table, there were three different entrees. All... More

The service was great, atmosphere a little darker than I'd have liked. Love the Red Cabbage - and can't go wrong with anything you order.

As if attending the Pompeii Exhibit at Union Station wasn't exceptional enough... my friend Eric cajoled me into walking to the Grünauer, a Bavarian restaurant about a block in back of Union Station. It was really like walking into a Bavarian Alps Ski Lodge restaurant, the ambiance was that titillating! We were escorted to our table by a young man... More

Went there for lunch for the first time on a Saturday. Great selection and delicious sauces. The Schnitzel is top notch.

We were in Austria and Germany last fall, and were thrilled to find an Austrian restaurant in Kansas City. It's located in the old Freight House behind Union Station, so easy to get to from downtown, along with Lidia's and Jack Stack Barbecue. The big space is nicely decorated, and our waiter, Anthony was fabulous. As you'd expect, an extensive... More

We visited Grunauer on a Saturday night during KC Restaurant Week. The KCRW menu was a great value and the food was just wonderful. One person in our group said he felt like his grandmother was back in the kitchen dishing out the German dinners he remembered as a kid. The regular menu is a bit expensive, but there aren't... Have been here many times, always impressed with the food. Great lunch specials which are also available on Saturdays, and the Sunday brunch special is a must try. Only negative is the service, while not always rude, it is always slow.
