This used to be our "go to place" for special occasions like birthdays or anniversaries here in Ennis. However, sadly, the Continental Divide is no longer open for business.

When I'm out in the middle of the countryside in a tiny little town like Ennis, I don't expect to find gourmet food, but the Continental Divide didn't disappoint. We ordered wine, appetizers, main courses, and desserts --- in a party of about 12 ---...More

Stopped for the night at the campground behind the restaurant. Had a fantastic meal. The bread itself is worth the trip. Had the best veggie lasagna ever.

We made reservations for our anniversary based on the reviews I read. We were surprised at the small selection of wine by the glass - only 4-5 reds, one of each variety. We both chose the merlot and it was delicious at $13/glass. My husband...More

The staff is young, the clientele older. The lighting is way too bright and glaring, ruining the ambience. Decent wine list. Mediocre salads. Pricy entrees ($30-$42), only a with a few local ingredients (lamb, bison). Nice quality meats. Decent sauces. Other places in town are...More

We sat outside on the covered patio and had a beautiful view of the mountains. The service was excellent as was the food. I would consider this expensive but very good. Reservations are suggested.

This is a great place in Ennis. The service is outstanding and the food is awesome. We tried several appetizers, duck pate, escargot, beef carpaccio and artichokes. All were excellent except the artichoke which was overlooked a bit. The entrees were huge... Walleye, duck and...More

Chose this place based on TripAdvisor recommendations and it didn't disappoint. We had a party of seven, and came in just before closing... they didn't seem to mind. We had ribeye, chicken, filet minon, Bison ribs, scallop appetizer, and artichoke appetizer. Service was very attentive...More

Our extended family including infant and grandparents visited the Continental Divide for dinner mid week. The food offerings had great variety and everyone enjoyed their selections. Of note, the sides are apparently determined by the chef for each service, so be sure to ask your...More

CLOSED FOR THE SEASON. The Continental Divide painstakingly prepares the best available fresh local and regional ingredients using the traditional methods of Europe. The extensive wine list is chosen carefully from large and small producers to match the cuisine. In true Bistro style attire is casual, but the cuisine is upscale. Weather permitting Alfresco dining with mountain views is extremely popular. Established in 1982 by Jay and Karen Bentley, the Continental Divide created a reputation for seasonal fine food in the small town of Ennis, MT. The restaurant was known far and wide for not only the French-Creole cuisine but for the engaging service of Karen Bentley. The restaurant was passed on to Eric Trapp in 1999 who proceeded to build on and refine the concept to a Continental-Bistro model with a larger wine list, an emphasis on game and seafood, and encouraging family friendly service. The Continental Divide moved to a stand alone location one mile north of town in 2006 and is open from Mothers day through October for dinner. Eric Trapp has been the Chef/Owner of the Continental Divide since 1999. Eric's training by Lyle McCullough in Ellensburg Washington began in 1983 and he worked in Seattle and Maui over the years refining his style and love for great food and dining experiences. The recreational opportunities of Montana that he shares with his family inspire Eric to bring fresh enthusiasm to the restaurant each new season.
