We choose the white horse in Baston to have a meal with friends. I had the fish and chips which was delicious especially the batter and curry sauce, i would definitely recommend this. My partner and one of our friends had the steak which was...disappointing as it came with a pile of green lettice no other salad, A large mushroom and a small ramekin of chips (very few chips) I have added a photo of the 'cheese board' which I think you will agree isn't worth the £11 they are charging! 4 crackers, a chunk of apple, a few slivers of celery..no butter or grapes etc honestly shocking as this is something we often order elsewhere and never looks like this so i complained to the manger who refunded us one of our two cheese boards. A real shame as we've had lovely meals here in the past that have been worth the money spent but not this time. Given 3 out of 5 and not lower because this is a beautiful pub and we did have good service by the youngsters who served us.More

I booked the function room at the White Horse for my parents' Golden Wedding anniversary meal and the occasion was fantastic in every way. The room itself (which I was unaware existed until recently) is a great space, tastefully decorated and with its own private...outdoor patio. Simon, the manager, and his team went out of their way to make sure the evening worked well for us, from providing us with a bespoke menu to arranging the furniture to accommodate us all (there were 23 of us, including several children). I brought a lot of my own decorations, but the pub put flowers and candles on the tables, which I thought was a lovely touch. We made use of the TV in the room to display our slideshow of family photographs. The meal itself was excellent - we had several options for starters, mains and desserts. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food - I heard many positive comments about it. Speaking for myself, the Salmon Gravlax starter and Sea bass main were delicious! The pub also provided plates and cutlery for the cake that we had brought with us. All in all, we had a wonderful evening and couldn't have found a more perfect or welcoming venue. Would highly recommend!More

We dropped in on the off chance for Sunday lunch and we’re shown a table straight away. We both chose the beef and a side of cauliflower cheese. The beef was melt in the mouth tender and served slightly pink. Roast potatoes, parsnips and a...large carrot - all cooked beautifully. A huge Yorkie and a bowl of really fresh vegetables. All was fabulous. Will definitely be back, ThankyouMore

Great Sunday lunch - disappointed we couldn't finish it due to amount served and all cooked/served as ordered. Great friendly service from the team. Will definitely be back again soon.

We were six friends for lunch. The ambience is good in this lovely, old pub, but it would have been nice to have a cushion or seat pad on the hard, wooden dining chairs. Our starters were very good, particularly the ham hock Scotch egg...with a runny yolk. I could not fault the quality or the cooking of my steak. We all commented on the generous portion size of the protein element of the main courses but felt that the potato element was small. For me, that was fine but the men felt a little deprived!! But dessert portions were disappointing, especially for the price, and our poached rhubarb was hardly poached……..we couldn’t break it with a spoon and fork! But the homemade ice creams and sorbets were a delight. All these things are really quite minor but our biggest criticism has to be the Manager, or we assume he is the manager? He has no hospitality or social skills whatsoever and was bordering on rude. The few words he uttered were blunt and to the point, and there was no hint of a smile. When we left he was sitting on a chair by the Bar and did not even acknowledge us. That is a real shame because the two young waitresses were lovely…….friendly, smiley and efficient, which also served to accentuate his morose attitude. To sum it up, a big well done to the chef and waitresses, a needs to do better for the manager.More

Staff were lovely but just not enough of them. Food was good but obviously short of staff in the kitchen. Mains good value but puddings a bit of a rip off at £8 each.

Lovely staff and scrummy food! Visited for Sunday lunch and the girls behind the bar were so friendly. Nothing was too much trouble, including asking for another Yorkshire pudding and lashings of gravy. Love this place!

Have visited this pub a few times a year for the last 10 years-its one of my favourites. Its always been a rare proper country pub with fantastic food and service. This visit was no different as the food was really delicious and the young...woman that served us was excellent. My only concern was that the bar area seems to have been taken over by raucous locals, obviously enjoying a regular after work drinking session which I have no problem with whatsoever, but the language they were using at full volume was really appalling. In the 90 minutes we were there I would estimate I heard the "F" word over 200 times as well as other offensive language and a lot of sexist comments to the young staff member. I am not, on any interpretation a "prude"-I work in the construction industry and certain amount of choice language goes with the territory-however I was really disappointed to be bombarded by this language throughout my entire evening out with my young daughter. It was not only distasteful but also quite intimidating. I feel particularly sad that the locals concerned don't have more appreciation for the lovely pub in their village or enough respect and consideration for the owner and his business, to modify their behaviour to a standard appropriate to the surroundings and not put customers off coming. I wonder if this is why we were the only people eating on the evening we visited when, normally, the place is full of diners. I'm afraid it will certainly make me think twice about visiting again.More

I am a very fussy old bugger and constantly complain, frequently disappointed by well written menus that are a total fabrication of the reality on the plate. THIS FOOD WAS TRULY AMAZING 🙏 I tried the feta & rhubarb starter as it intrigued me and...my wife questioned the choice as I “hate” feta cheese. I said that maybe I’ve always eaten sub-standard feta and I was interested to try some quality. I wasn’t disappointed, the flavours were all mouthwatering in there individuality but, combined, they were astonishing. I was hooked. Then my salmon main arrived, twice the size I was expecting, accompanied by a helping of pesto & seated on a bed of beautifully cooked potato & chorizo cubes with samphire. ANOTHER CULINARY JOY. Utterly delicious & moreish, I savoured every mouthful and finished every morsal. I am pleased to say that I will be a regular here and can’t wait to try more of the chefs handiwork. KEEP DOING WHAT YOU DO👊More
