About
The Kings Head is a family owned pub, set in the heart of the Roseland Peninsula within the secluded village of Ruan Lanihorne. Being a Freehouse, our emphasis is on supporting local beers, wines and spirits as well as local growers. The beef and lamb comes directly from our farm at St Anthony's head, where they graze the coastal pastures all year round. Game when in season sourced locally, and of course fish straight from the sea. Whether you're local or from further afield, want to stay for a meal or just a pint in the beer garden, you're always welcome...

Booked for Wed evening via e-mail on Tues using the e-mail on the website. When we had heard nothing on Wed morning I found the booking e-mail on FB which was answered that morning.
Welcome was average and drinks orders taken despite clearly naming the wine I wanted I had to be asked again as she couldn’t find it!
Food was lovely, the fish and chips excellent but the burger wasn’t very hot but looked spectacular! As for the creme brûlée it was to die for!!
However service was sooooo slow and we had to ask twice to order a dessert. In at 1900 left at 2115!
Sitting opposite the bar was fun seeing the problems pulling a pint. Really two youngsters running the front of house is asking for disaster people needs to be welcomed with a bit of confidence and enthusiasm.
Also could I suggest a second light at the front door so you can see the steps in the dark?

We are staying nearby and wanted to find a good, traditional pub and we weren’t disappointed. We’ve eaten at a lot of places in Cornwall over the years and this now ranks easily in our top 5. It’s a really lovely pub, that is tucked away in a little village. The staff were very welcoming and attentive. It was quiet, which was perfect for us and the food arrived in a very reasonable time, especially given that it’s freshly made. As for the food - it was outstanding, and I am incredibly fussy. There was a varied and unique selection on the menu, which was great and I’m informed the beer was a fine example of a best bitter. Incredibly pleased we found this place and you must give it a visit if you are in the Roseland.

We made a last minute decision to try The Kings Head and we weren’t disappointed. The pub is obviously very popular with locals as well as visitors from further afield. Although finding a parking space is a challenge (the pub car park is very small) it’s worth persevering - or getting a taxi!
The place was busy and we hadn’t booked a table, but were lucky as one became free shortly after we arrived. We had an indoor table as the evening weather was breezy and rather too chilly to eat outdoors.
We had a delicious Moules Marinière which was accompanied by chunks of tasty bread and crispy fries. The other choice was southern fried chicken with dressed salad leaves, more crispy fries and a side order of seasonal vegetables.
Everything from the greeting, service and general interaction with staff was polite, friendly and helpful. The food was served efficiently, was scrumptious, tasty and extremely filling as portions were generous. We had no room for dessert this time… but maybe on a return visit!

Our first visit to Tregoney although not to Cornwall. This pub, along with several others had been recommended to us. We had booked this pub prior to our holiday for a Wednesday evening and thought it might be a 'Eat out to help out' venue. Although I must admit I hadn't checked. It was a lovely evening and everyone was seated outside. Upon arrival we were shown to our table, which was inside. We were the only ones inside. There was no ambiance, no music, and no other couples inside and with only one young lady behind the bar. The drinks took a while to be served and the food a while longer. I had ' Fish and chips' at £13 and my wife had Moroccan Tagine at £12. Very disappointed with the food. I've had bigger fish fingers and the tagine was missing the mint gremolata. We decided not to have a dessert and when paying the bill found out they didn't take part in the eat out to help out scheme. Probably my mistake not checking although would have been better value at half price.

Dear 83stang i'm sorry that you didn't enjoy your evening to us , but i'm a bit unsure what your gripe is ? Obviously your first bug was that you couldn't get a half price meal, but yes we decided that seeing as we were only open on Wednesday evenings it wasn't worth the bureaucracy. As for being the only one inside ? Again, obviously with covid rules we have spaced out tables and thus had to reduce capacity. Being a " lovely evening everyone that had booked a table inside decided to eat outside, again on limited table space ? ? ? Then the little dig on timing ? Your drinks order was taken at 19.17 and you paid at 20.11 a space of 54 mins , Im surprised you didn't have indigestion ? Regards Kingshead.

We were on holiday in the village and have family living down the road so suggested a family meal here. We were a party of 9 with 4 children. I had a call in the week asking us to pre order which wasn't a problem but no menu turned up. I called on the morning of our booking and then got told it should be OK not to pre order.
Upon arrival we asked about children's menu but were told they just do smaller versions of the adults, which proved a little tricky with the 3 and 5 year old. We ordered drinks but my mums glsss came dirty with lipstick stains so had to be sent back.
In the end the children went for burgers as did half the adults. My sister and I had steak. The food is cooked fresh and so we did wait a little while but when it came out the food was delicious, I can't fault it at all.
Unfortunately we had to wait a very long time for our plates to be cleared and asked about dessert. We ordered some dessert and some coffee but the coffee hadn't come out by the time we had finished the dessert. In the end I took the 4 children home while the adults waited for their coffee and to try and ask for the bill as it had gotten so late.
The place could do with a good clean and a Manager on duty, perhaps they were just having an off day? Worth a try as an adult but not sure I'd take the children.

Booked a lunch for two for a special occasion on a recent Sunday - using their web-site booking facility. Two hours before the booked time we received an email to say the restaurant was in fact not open for another two weeks. No chance of an alternative at that late stage so our special day was limited to soup and a roll at a local garden.

Dear Mr Ian Mclean , i would like to say thankyou for your review , but am struggling to find the logic in what you have written . Firstly you say that this was for a special occasion on the Sunday , but you left it till 7.30pm on the Saturday to book a table ? Sounds like a bit of a last minute after thought to me ! On 2nd of May , your chosen date, we were still in covid lockdown and whilst a few pubs had decided to venture into outside service , we were NOT one of them . We had decided that we could not economically run a pub at half measures and thus clearly put, and highlighted, on our web site front page that we would not be opening till May 17th , of which we did and a lovely night was had by all its a shame you weren't there. Also i would like to think that trip advisor is there to comment on the quality of our food or the attention of our staff , not your short comings on not being able to arrange a SPECIAL MEAL until 17 hours before ? Maybe a bit of planning in the future would help. Regards

The moules mariniere, steak burger and chips, beer battered fish and chips and sticky toffee pudding were amazing today. Great service and the new chef, Dean even came out to explain how fresh the fish is. We shall definitely return next time we are in the area.

We had a spectacular family meal - our 2 grandchilren were welcomed as were our 2 dogs but, even more so, our daughter who is coeliac and has become very nervous about eating out. She felt very reassured when the Chef came and spoke to her confirming that he would prepare gluten free food for her. The quality of all the food was impeccable and the service likewise. I wish other restaurants would take note that coeliacs also need to be able to eat out with their family - we will definitely revisit this pub, and recommend it to anyone that may be in the area. Special thanks to Dean, Wendy and Eve.

We tried a Sunday lunch here. We haven’t been for a few years but found our way with no bother.
We sat just inside the door on a huge table opposite the bar so had a good view of proceedings. Good and attentive staff made for a quick settle in with a drink and a fine plate of food. We both plumped for the beef Sunday dinner. There was loads of meat on the plate but I would have been more than willing to swap some of thy at for more vegetables. As it was I two halves of roast potatoe, two mange tout, half a carrot, a small spoonful of red cabbage and a Yorkshire pudding. The meal was just hot enough but accompanying it was a roasting hot small plate of cheese covered ratatouille and some extra hot gravy. All very tasty.
I enjoyed what I had and the service was good but missed a good plate of veg.

Reserved table about 4 hours prior as treating a cousin who lived in area as we were on holiday from Leeds. Sat outside as weather was beautiful & called us in when meal was ready to be served. 2 of us had the 8oz sirloin which was cooked to perfection with lovely chunky chips & cousin had the fish & chips. All served piping hot, was delicious.

We booked for dinner on Sunday evening, when we arrived the service very slow to even get a drink, finally we were shown to our table that had 1 paper napkin each and the lights were not working on the back wall.
We ordered pint and half of bitter and it was dreadful, so I ordered a cocktail and the waitress advice me that she does not now how make a cocktail finally another member came and made the cocktail that was not done right and I had to take it back,we ordered beef burgers and the food was very average with the buns burned.
The bathrooms were filthy, we both had very bad tummies all night, definitely a horrible experience we have travelled extensively and this was the worst.

Dear Sir . It's times like these that i wonder why i bother.
and it depresses me to the integrity of some people , please recount your whole tale and not just the excerpts . Yes you did arrive on a busy Sunday ( Fathersday ) and people were being served at the bar , was i expected to drop their glasses and immediately serve you ? No you had a small wait. Yes you ordered 1 and half pint of St Austell Best Bitter along with the other 38 pints we served that day ( no other complaints ) There is no accounting for taste ! Later you did ask our young waitress if you could have a cocktail , specifically a Long Island Iced Tea and yes she did not know how to make it , so she called on Me , Myself , I , the owner of this Estabishment. Now we are not a cocktail bar we are a local pub , but i checked the ingredients and thought no harm in a bit of customer service , so proceeded to make. On taking to your table i explicitly said " Please try it Sir , if it is not upto your satisfaction come back to me " this you did we discussed that you thought it was too Sweet and too much Coke so i gave you another with no coke so that you could mix your own. You just poured this into your existing drink and said " That's much better thanks " and went back to your table. Food wise ? Sir, you ordered Burgers , not the Whole Sole with caper butter or the Slow cooked Brisket there is little we can do to jazz up a burger other than to use quality ingredients , the buns are toasted but by no means burnt , there is no need to send out burnt buns we have plenty. The Bathrooms issue , yes we do have quite plain and basic bathrooms but they are kept clean , and as for the quip about bad tummies ? well that was just below the belt.

New owners since we last went. Superb food, we were a party of seven for lunch. Fish was locally sourced and really fresh. Chose the fish special, baked John Dory, so good, firm, fresh, and with a good vegetable accompaniment included. The tide was turning, we rowed there, so no time for a pudding. Thoroughly recommended.

My family and I visited this place on our holiday. The lady behind the bar was very helpful and we had a good chat about the area. Our food was amazing…. If I was to recommend anything from our experience it would be the braised beef brisket in the specials menu or the steak burger all home made by the chef. We asked to speak to the chef after our meal to give him our compliments. We have booked our Sunday roast in advance as I guess they are so good we would struggle to get in. Thank you 😁👍🏻

We arrived on the dot to find what we think is the owner and chef rocking along to some excellent music turned up high, they immediately turned it down but it set the tone for an unusual and excellent dinner in a convivial atmosphere.
How often does soup come piping hot, very well seasoned with home made bread - well if you come here this is what you get.
Wonderful prawn starter with prawns as fresh as you like accompanied by a sauce with a drop or two of brandy in it.
My gluten free fish and chips was delicious and the chef had not only thought about the taste but the way it looked so added some tumeric for colour.
Venison burger came from a herd of deer 500 meters down the road and the steak came highly recommended as the owner was also the farmer.
This place has everything, an accomplished chef, an unusual menu, warm welcome and simple but elegant environment. We will come again, thank you to all for your kind attention and delicious food.

Food was excellent. Menu read really well, you can tell this is the work of a good chef. Was gutted we weren’t that hungry thanks to a huge traditional Cornish pasty as we would have been much more adventurous!
Service was friendly but the young girl was pushed to the limits! They were fully booked so it was not unexpected. We also had to sit outside as fully booked but 2 tables didn’t turn up - can’t believe people do this to businesses in the current climate.
We travel this way for work every 6 weeks, this is one we will definitely return to but will make sure we book next time!
