A colleague suggested this place for our after lunch coffee. When I'm in a new area I like to try something different so I had the Blanca Latte: half espresso and half hot chocolate! Great combo. The coffee cut the sweetness of the hot chocolate and vice versa. A delight. The pastries looked scrumptious but we were too full from... More

This is a great coffee shop but I feel it's location is it's real stand out. The big picture window is perfect to watch people from. I find the counter staff to be a bit short, almost rude, but in there defense it was extremely busy when I was there. The coffee was good and Sonya enjoyed the scone. Of... More

Of all the cafés we visited in New England, this was the only one that served really good, strong coffee. Hopefully there are others equally as good, but we didn't find them!

After 2 years of testing all of the local Portsmouth coffee roasters we have to conclude that Breaking New Grounds beats all the rest. The raw beans are well sourced and expertly roasted. Their pastry items and gelato are also exceptional. We recommend the Parisian almond cookies.

Breaking new Grounds has everything breakfast pastry store needs: bagels, muffins, croissants, sweets like brownies and special bars. Lots of coffee and tea choices, plenty of special choices among lattes also. You say it is noon and you need something else, well cheesecake and several other cake choices will fill the void in your tummy. On street parking is tough.... More

We go there every time we are in downtown Portsmouth. Fresh ground and brewed coffees, tea and tasty treats. Many selections and all are very good quality. It's fun to sit outside on their sidewalk patio and watch the people passing by.

Love this BNG! One of the best coffee places in the area. Griffin and the team are super friendly. Coffee is really fresh- my regular is the capuccino. I like that they have them in various sized. Many places around only offer one size and its usually small for the same price! I like that you can buy a variety... More

This is always the place to stop for coffee and a cookie or pastry when you're out and about or shopping. The coffee is always fresh and there is tea and yummy hot cocoa too.

If you're a coffee drinker in Portsmouth, this place is a must. We went multiple times while we were visiting! It's in a central location and did not disappoint.
