Yes the portions are smaller but the view stays the same. The staff try and get there in the end. The calamari is better servedl on plates than in a skillet but certainly the portion is much smaller. The steak and chicken is again smaller but good and comes with a small portion of fries. If you oredr extra you do get a bigger portion. No bread. But they want you in and out to turn the tables I guess. You have to come here at least once, especially if you have guests staying. It is an institution. But please, don't bet greedy guys or people will vote with their feet and you do need locals out of season.

Lunch today on the veranda packed with a lot of local Capetonians was a very happy experience yet again. We visit Cape Town annually and after a recommendation to go to this wonderful restaurant several years ago, we never miss a visit. The prawns in lemon butter are absolutely amazing! Best on this trip. I have to order these each time....”an absolute must order” The oysters were scrummy too! Great friendly service as well and we miss seeing the owner who we discovered today had died recently.

Thank you for taking the time to review your experience with us - and for the lovely kind review. We're so glad we continue to please you on each of your visits with us. And thank you for the mention of Prawns & oysters- so often people only come for the calamari - and we're glad you come for PRAWNS :-) as there are SO MANY great items on the menu. We look forward to seeing you again next year Regards CPH Team

A wonderful culinary experience from the past. Nothing has changed here since the days of jazz at Sunday lunches, except - the quality of the food improved and the diners became more. We visited on a Sunday and arrived before 12:00 to get a nice table. Soon there was a long queue and many had to turn around as the restaurant was full. Consistent good food will always bring in the customers. Most people were there for the full experience - starters or salads, 2 different mains, lovely chilled wine and at the end dessert and coffee with a cognac. That is exactly what we have done. We enjoyed a 3 hour lunch and every dish served was quality and value for money. The service was friendly, efficient and not in your face. It was clean and we never saw a fly despite all the seafood served. The only frown I have is the rather expensive wine list. Overall a 5 star experience. Get there early.

Don’t have their Summer Lunch or your be disappointed. Calamari, Prawns and Line fish. So far so good. Until it arrives. The most expensive meal at R295 per plate gives you 4 overcooked indelicate prawns, kingklip tail ends from the freezer and service lacking when an eyebrow is raised. Been her over the last 30 years. The chef has left the kitchen. If you want a dull, tasteless ensemble, it’s available at a price. Calamari was good, as to be expected, for the rest, below par. I did raise my concerns, to be met with ‘ what would you like us to do?. Frankly not my place to dictate but rather to be on the receiving end of some more sympathetic caring gesture. It’s not the money, not the portion, so all we expect post COVID doom is a little effort and perhaps even, the coffee is on the house.

The good was terribly expensive for the portion size the dished out, calamari and Portuguese Steak, price R220, which is outrageous price for 6 cubes of meat/steak, and 8 pieces of Calamari. The vegetables were carrots broccoli and cauliflower I think, not even a palm of your hand portion, pathetic…another in our party ordered the calamari main, it’s was old stale and I’m pretty sure reheated, disgusting food.. never again, complete rip-off. Another person ordered a rock shandy, a 200 ml can of premade shandy was served up, wtf..??? Never again don’t go it’s a terrible unacceptable rip off..

R900 for 3 plates of cold fish and chips! And 2 glasses of wine and a small salad… Seriously! On a cold Misty afternoon on a cold terrace the last thing you want is COLD FOOD. Please explain to me why you cannot put hot food on hot plates and bring the food hot? Your a restaurant not a cafe. Get your stuff together guys, get your kitchen staff to taste the food and understand WHY! Education… coz if not you are gonna loose good customers! NOT HAPPY!

We had the misfortune of going through to Chapman's Peak Hotel Restaurant on Sunday 11 September 2022. This was meant to be a day of good memories and reminiscing, but these ideas were totally dashed on arrival by the Maitre D on duty on this day. We were in CT to celebrate my parents' 50th wedding anniversary - we flew specifically to CT as this was where my folks chose to enjoy their honeymoon in 1972. Not only that, they stayed at what is now Chapman's Peak Hotel for their Honeymoon. Knowing the restaurant does not take bookings on a Sunday, we phoned ahead to be told that there are tables available, and we should go through, which we did. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a lady Maitre D who has to be the rudest person I have had the misfortune to engage with - she promptly explained to us that the kitchen is under too much pressure - we'll have to wait at least an hour to an hour and a half, and even then she can't guarantee that we'll get food (this being 20 mins after we phoned). Her suggestion was that we go elsewhere! Words cannot express our disappoint and disbelief that this is what has become of a CT institution.

Four of us went for lunch on a busy Sunday. The atmosphere was buzzy and the staff were super efficient, the only thing that let the experience down was the food! Three of us ordered the calamari, one arrived cold and the others had undercooked , stodgy batter. It was also quite pricey for the quality.

Thank you for your feedback. It is always so disheartening and disappointing to have to receive negative feedback. However, we appreciate the time you’ve taken to bring these issues to our attention. Your experience with us is certainly not the standards we aspire to. Although we strive to offer a professional and satisfying experience to all our guests, there are instances where things go wrong. It is then imperative that management address the issue to the satisfaction of the affected guest on said occasion. May I ask whether you brought your food dissatisfaction to the attention of the manager on duty on that day? Regards CPH Team

This was an icon their pan fried calamari was known worldwide Sadly no more Calami was dry grilled rubber and totally over priced to boot R260 for a calamari/prawn pan which was tasteless. Service was a joke lots of bodies running around aimlessly, three times we asked for napkin’s which never came.we watched our food sit on a counter for an eternity before it was brought to the table.Overall a very sad disappointing return to what once was a great dining experience.

Very nice spot for food or a glass of wine or two. The hotel is fronted by the restaurant which has ample outdoor seating all more or less in the shade. A sports bar to the side and main bar in the hotel behind the restaurant. Food is good and reasonably priced, made with quality ingredients. The welcome was warm and friendly and the staff are great. We were in town for a wedding and have eaten here twice and haven’t had to wait for a table. It’s always busy and that’s not a bad thing. You won’t be disappointed.

Terrible, no hake and chips, was told that they can't get hake as the fishermen were on strike, could only order yellow tail, kingklip or tuna, the wine we ordered, they didn't have. My wife ordered the kingklip, my son ordered the 8 queen prawns, and his partner and I the espetada, all with chips. All the food arrived cold, the chips looked like they had been standing for a while, the fish was cold, the prawns were cold and couldn't be deshelled properly, the espetada was cold, and no condiments were served with our meal until we had asked twice. The manager John, thought it was better to argue with us, asking us whether we were complaining about the food or price! Will not be going back - don't waste your time, many other restaurants in the area.

I had prawns but actually should have had the speciality calamari which was delicious. Someone had the steak and calamari combo and raved about it. Dessert was good, ice cream and nice chocolate sauce the others had caramelized lemon pie which went down very well. Nice vibe, very busy, good service and very attentive manager/maiter D'

Without doubt the worst dining experience in Cape Town! We have eaten at Chapmans Peak Hotel many times over the years and it’s been wonderful. The food was cold, the portions were small, the prices were high and the manageress seemed disinterested in our dissatisfaction. We will never return.

We spent 2 nights at the Chapmans Peak Hotel and we had dinner at the Restaurant on both nights. Both dinners were wonderful. The restaurant interior has a lot of character with the well-worn wooden floors, walls and tables as well as the various photos on the walls attesting to many enjoyable meals and celebrations held in this space over the years. The service was quick, friendly and helpful. The food overall was excellent. There is an underlying Portuguese character particularly to the starters and the livers, the trinchado, the chorizo and the grilled calamari were all excellent. For mains we enjoyed tuna, hake, prawns, fried calamari, all done to perfection and very tasty. My personal highlight was the beetroot and butternut salad, which was delicious. Overall a great experience, great food, a great place to enjoy a memorable moment. Highly Recommended!
