Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Outstanding food and excellent service. Perfect for a meal with friends. We chose the tasting menu and wine flight on this occasion, and the matching was superb. A lot of thought goes into the menu, the sourcing of ingredients and the wine selection, and the...results are fantastic. We have eaten there previously and chose the a la carte menu on that occasion, and it was also excellent. The first experience brought us back, and we were not disappointed.More

The Chequers Inn at Weston Turville is always an amazing place to dine. The food is incredible and the welcome warm. Dritan and Ranka are great hosts and always go above and beyond for their customers. The staff are always knowledgeable about the food they...serve and happy to spend the time to speak about the menu. This is the one restaurant that never disappoints however many times you visit and we will always come back again.More

We had the tasting menu which was absolutely perfect, the wine flight with it made it extra special and each wine was very nice. The atmosphere was lovely and the service was exceptional. Would highly recommend and look forward to visiting again.

I am writing with disappointment and a lot of confusion with my family's reservation today, Sunday 10th February at 12pm for your lunch service. After being seated by a member of staff, we were then waiting for some time for the drink and food menu....We were then approached by a different member of staff and told there had been a problem in the kitchen and the restaurant were not serving today. A little confused as it was all very abrupt, I explained that we had paid a £100 deposit and I was assured that this would be refunded back. As we were leaving and deciding where to now go for Sunday lunch for the five of us- the chef which I can only assume is Mr Lani (I could be wrong about this) came to our table clearly oblivious to the situation and asked if we were waiting for any more to join, we explained what we had just been told, to which he replied everything is fine, it was a gas issue that's been sorted. We stayed and ordered our drinks, it was then obvious to us that he was the only person now working in the restaurant with more tables being seated, he was trying to cook/ bar tend and serve all at the same time. Our wine was left on the table, no ice bucket. The beer poured was unfortunately the worst beer I had ever seen be poured, to the point of embarrassment. I come from working in hospitality and I am absolutely appalled with the service and lack of communication throughout our entire dining experience. Had we been told that this was the case with a one man show, we could have made a more informed decision of whether to stay or not. Whilst I have empathy for the chef, no apology was given at this point of the meal along with no explanation. I have been to this restaurant before and had a wonderful experience which is why we all wanted to come back. I can tell you after today, I will not be returning. When our mains arrived, the food wasn't particularly hot and the beef was cooked well done, which we were told would be medium rare. The most peculiar aspect of our beef roast was the 'red wine gravy' which was not red wine gravy. It had a strong fish taste and after looking back at the menu I believe this was the bouillabaisse sauce used for the brixham gurnard fillet. This sauce with beef was not pleasant. When I questioned the fish sauce I was told that 'this is what we are serving today' and that was it. Myself and others tried to eat around the sauce, during this time we witnessed a table of two get up and leave because of their mains, with other tables looking around for someone to serve them. We then waited an hour from desserts being ordered to arriving at the table. An hour. Had this not been a celebratory get together myself and my partner would have left. One family members dessert was missing mascarpone and coffee sauce from the chocolate tart- when questioned, the chef simply stated 'well if that's what you want I'll add it', shocked at his direct response, as its on the menu this way- not a request. Secondly, the lemon and yuzu curd, poppy seed sponge, honey and dehydrated meringue was to be quite honest a laughing situation. We could not believe what we were witnessing. A plate of soggy meringue was served with nothing else. When questioned about everything that was missing the chef said 'ok if that's what you want?' It was changed but was to be frank, a poor dessert. When asked why he was the only one working he replied 'don't ask- all my staff walked out.' Whilst I slightly feel for the chef as he was clearly stressed and overworked, maybe the restaurant shouldn't have been opened in the first place when knowing that the service would obviously be affected. When you come to a restaurant like the Chequers Inn you expect a level of service along with good food, especially for the price you pay. I am astounded with what we received today. Communication would have served in the chef's favour but that was not the case. Once the bill arrived, the £100 deposit was not taken off and were also charged for 10 two course dinners, instead of 5! Bringing the bill to over £500 with a service charge of £50. I am shocked that the service was even included at this point with no compensation for the meal. When questioning the chef there was no apology for the mistake just brushed it off. The bill was paid in full and we left with an apology for the wait once we were leaving. Overall, I am really not one to complain and whilst I sympathise that this man was alone and doing all the work- this should not have been the case in the first place. I am really disappointed in today's experience and feel you should have this feedback moving forwards.More

After a very brisk hilly walk we were starving! We were greeted by friendly staff, in this beautiful old pub and sat at our table. We both had roast beef and it didn’t disappoint, was the best roast I have had for a while, all...the trimmings and more. No room for pudding but looking at other tables they looked delicious. Our waitress was lovely too. We will definitely be back, well worth the visit.More

The Chequers is our favourite restaurant. After a very warm welcome from Dritan and Ranka, the owners, we had a most excellent Sunday lunch. We had Sunday lunch at this restaurant with friends . Two chose the chowder, it was unusual and really exciting . Two chose the mackerel pate … that went down well . For mains three chose the fillet roast and one the lamb fillet …....Excellent ( too many roast potatoes for some ) …. To finish three chose the tart tatin and one the choc caramel tart. The tart tatin was most unusual but never less tasty . Service was efficient and friendly. A bottle of Bechereau Pomerol helped the lunch go in a flash. Well done the kitchen and the teamMore

We had dinner here during our short visit to Aylesbury - mainly prompted by the great reviews - and it certainly didn't disappoint in any way. As others have said, the team have the balance just right in terms of a genuinely warm welcome, background...music that was eclectic and discreet enough to mask other guests' conversations, great food served attractively at a table dressed in crisp white linen - in fact the whole restaurant was a tasteful blend of new and old. We had good advice about the dishes ad serving sizes and accompaniments (we had eaten a large lunch so didn't want to over order!). Each dish was delicious. The scallops (small plate) served as my main course and it was amazing - as was the cheese and chive mash that accompanied it. I would definitely return if we are ever in the area.More
