My family and I have been eating at the Chowder Bar for two decades. It's the first place my 26 year old son wants to go when he comes to visit. Lynda and Pat keep churning out excellent chowders, great fish and chips, lobster rolls, clams, mussels, crab cakes, sandwiches, salads, and various fish specials. I'm a particular fan of... More

Do not judge this eatery by its quaint appearance; it may be small in size but large in flavor. Best seafood and soups in Bay Shore, NY and one of the best on Long Island.

Can't be called a discovery since its been there since 1946 but its still a find for most since its so tiny and off the beaten track..maybe seats 8 at the foobar, 15 in the bar area and another 20 in the adjacent room. Very friendly owners and staff...serving simple food ...fresh clams and oysters, really good soups and then... More

Went with a group of six. They were out of several basic menu items. Portions of a swordfish special were meager. A lobster roll was mostly surimi although priced like the real thing. If it had tasted good I might not have cared. Service was neglectful. Too bad, years ago it was a favorite.

I had high hopes, but with so many wonderful seafood restaurants around I've got no plans to return here. Lobster roll was mostly surimi (but priced like lobster.) Swordfish was over cooked and sides were uninteresting. Some folks enjoyed the chowder (half Manhattan/half New England) but it tasted canned to me.

Has gone downhill since last year. New England Clam Chowder which used to be wonderful now has only several very small chunks of clam and overuse of thickening agents. Sandwiches are ordinary, nothing special. Convenient stop for all Fire Island ferries.

Have eaten here twice. Both times very good. A little hard to find so use your GPS, right next to the ferry. Food well prepared and fresh. A little more expensive than other small local restaurants but you get what you pay for. Will definitely go back.

I was looking for a place just off the highway and before NYC to eat lunch and this place was perfect. Not right off the highway but pretty close. Great chowder and awesome seafood platter. My daughter had the clam sandwich was was also excellent. I'd come back here in a heartbeat!
