Pretty building , unimaginative choice of beers in today's market, with massive selection of "pub food" . Expensive and not particularly good. Great service but !!!!!!! No plans to visit again to drink or eat.

This pub certainly meets the 3 F's of country pubs Family run, Friendly welcome and Fantastic food. Visiting nearby Saffron Walden we booked a table for three on a Saturday night and thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience provided thatched country inn. The pub dates back to 1650 and has a friendly and relaxing atmosphere and serves quality real ale. We... More

Very cheerful service, cosy in a way that makes visiting French Canadians proclaim upon the very Englishness of it (shiny horse brasses) and really jolly nice food in what I think is described in some quarters as 'copious portions'. Very well worth 15 minutes' drive of Tuesday night, that's for sure. BUT. Best thing is the sweet/dessert/pudding (depending on your... More

Go here approximately fortnightly so it must be good ! Thatched and tiled roofs, this pub / eaterie is tucked away in a small village not far away from the more well known "Cricketers" at Clavering but far, far better with plenty of space between tables and excellent variety of food on offer. Never, ever, been disappointed and always go... More

Cannot rate this establishment fro its food as we never got to order anything. I had phoned to see if we needed to book and was informed this was not required. The website shows that lunches are served until 2pm. Although later than we had intended we arrived about 10 minutes to 2 and asked about a meal and were... More

Absolutely credit where credit is due, this place is great. We had a bit of a drive around from the village we recently moved to and found this place. Top notch Marlborough Sauvignon. Great vegetarian menu (me) Superb fillet of steak - rare (other half). Love the atmosphere, bar staff, the owner, will be our new go to place for... More

Had a light lunch with family and friends at this old pub. Good atmosphere and service only let down by the incredibly small sandwich I was served. The other food was pretty good, just the sandwich was below par. Would go again but maybe go for the mains.

We have visited this establishment twice now and plan on returning with friends to "show it off" so to speak. There is an excellent choice of cuisine and the ambience is great. The staff are very friendly and most helpful There is a car park to the rear and if that is full, there are spaces immediately outside the premises... More

Young waitress was very helpful and friendly. The rest of the staff were miserable and not friendly. Food was okay but expensive. Would we go there again? No.

We visited today after recommendations from family members. The Sunday menu is a 3 course Sunday lunch. The roast was beautiful - perfect Yorkshire, lovely tray of vegetables including Cauliflower cheese, and a plate of crispy golden roast potatoes. The dessert cart is obviously the highlight at the end with a huge selection, and also huge portion of something everyone... More
