While in total numbers the T&M may be beat out for the most draft micro-brews in town, they certainly win for the most balanced and thoughtful selection of them. The staff is very knowledgable about what they are pouring, and there are often special beer...More

I've taken out of town visitors here - people who think they've been in places with a good beer list. They are always overwhelmed by the choices here. Bartenders are knowledgeable to the point of psychic. Tell them a beer you like, and they will...More

I attended a work event here in May of 2014 with about 20 people. They were well prepared for us, had tables set up and had extra workers come in to help with the large group at a traditionally slow time for Tap and Mallet....More

I love the Tap and Mallet. It has an ever-changing selection of interesting beers on tap. The service is friendly and low key. There is a pleasant patio when the days are warm. And, the food is good - not spectacular, but a nice accompaniment...More

Wonderful place! The bar atmosphere with the old wood, the eclectic crowd was great. Food wise, we ordered the Clam Casino - nice creamy sauce to go with bread - good bar food. We also ordered the chicken wings - okay, not that great. Go...More

Our meal on the patio/terrace was very enjoyable-wide variety of beers, which I don't drink, but greatly enjoyed pear cider. The menu featured local produce- a stone fruit compote was fantastic. Portions could be slightly larger. Service was great, waitress was very attentive.

Our party of four went here for dinner on a Monday evening at about 7pm. We didn't at all feel welcomed, the service was not at all good, the food was mediocre. Our personal opinions of the experience. . . burnt salty fries, gravy was...More

Been going for years. Always a great beer selection, but that's no enough to make up for the overpriced, mediocre food, and incredibly poor service today. Gourmet grilled cheese sounded good, but it was more like toast. I swear there was no more than 2oz...More

One side has a large bar area with tables, a wall separates this side from the dining area with more tables and high back booths which are great for privacy. Our server Max was very friendly and attentive. He was also knowledgeable about the food...More

The Tap & Mallet is owned by Joe McBane and Casey Walpert. Joe is from England, and has lived in the United States since 2000. He managed The Old Toad for the first 7 years he was in the country. Casey opened The Bug Jar on Monroe Avenue and currently owns Mex on Alexander Street.

We aim to be the best destination in Rochester for beer and pub food. We believe that having the best beer requires a balance between freshness and selection. We chose to limit our draft lines to 30 with the addition of 1 cask ale so that a fresh glass of beer can be guaranteed every time. The majority of our lines rotate so that there is always something new to try. Our inspiration for the menu comes from a love for food prepared from top quality fresh ingredients. Whether our guest wants dinner or just a snack they should always expect a range of flavors from around the world at an affordable price.

The atmosphere is that of a contemporary pub. It is comfortable and welcoming to all. There is soft lighting and music that doesn't overwhelm. We want people to feel relaxed and at home.

While we specialize in fine beers we understand that drinking beer is a truly enjoyable social past time. No one should ever feel bad about their choice of drink due to an elitist attitude. Many of our guests are interested in exploring new flavors and we are there to help and encourage them with their selections.
