The American Hotel checks all of the boxes: ambiance, food & staff are outstanding. Such a classic, but not dated. Every meal we have had we have savored with some of our favorites being: the crab cakes, lobster BLT's & the burger. We hosted our "Hair of the Dog" brunch there & were blown away by the staff & food.... More

This used to be the place for great food, ambiance, and an amazing wine list - and that's way before Sag Harbor became the trendy in spot now known to many. I couldn't agree more with the other poor reviews of this once great classic. I could not agree less with the excellent reviews provided - I suppose it's all... More

We found this restaurant while visiting The Hamptons on a Tuesday off season not knowing that many restaurants close Tues & Wed this time of year. Glad we did. They allowed us to have a table to ourselves in what used to be an alley, but is now decorated to make you feel like you are in France. We ordered... More

Consistently good food. I've taken clients there as well as family and friends. I dish I enjoy most (but never had a bad meal) is their BLT ~ Bacon, Lobster Salad & Tomato. I've also enjoyed their early bird specials when the offer.. great value. In good weather there is also dining al fresco on Main Street. And can't forget... More

We found this restaurant very unexpectedly, lucky us. We were able to sit out front in the sun. Our lunch was wonderful. The food was terrific. I had a crab cake and my husband had the flounder special which I tasted and yum. We had wine and beer and people watched. The bill came and I almost fell on the... More

This is an old hotel that has all the good and bad which comes with that. Could be a bit better maintained. Plenty of atmosphere! The food is quite good and appropriately priced. Active late-night bar scene, may not be everyone's taste. Overall a good option.

went again and was so disappointed. For us this is an expensive treat. we were all so disappointed with our fish entrees. three of us had the haddock at forty dollars plus a plate. it was so dry and totally disappointing. two others in our group had the flounder almondine. this too was much too dry -- no sauce. We... More

Large menu with traditional American classics. Crowded and small but worth the experience. Some star sighting possible in season and cool locals off season.

Popped-in to The American Hotel for dinner prior to a film in Sag Harbourt. Lovely meal in the bar room. When making reservations it's best to try to narrow your seating preferences - the more formal dining room, the front porch, the bar room, or the front/rear/side rooms. There are also options for smaller or larger tables - all are... More

I'm partial to The American Hotel and my wife and I have been there many times for both lunch and dinner. Our recent visit was for dinner when, without a reservation on a Friday evening we showed up and were accommodated at 7:30. Yes, it was busy, but the staff know how to make things work and we got one... More
