We had a yummy dinner of raw clams on the halfshell appetizer, white bean spread with crustini, then the baked chicken breast with fingerling potatoes, plus beer as a beverage. The food was tasty, was served promptly, and the waitstaff was helpful and knowledgeable. The atmosphere was laid back and inviting!

Had dinner with my wife recently, off season. The big plus was that it was open for dinner while most of Shelter Island was closed. I've read a recent review criticizing the prices , and I must say that it is true , a lamb burger at $29 seems a bit much (they do not have other burgers). But my... More

Attractive renovation of dated ground floor space. (Happily, they preserved the WWII vintage mural in the men's room.). Friendly, though somewhat addled, staff. Excellent carrot and cauliflower starters with well-balanced seasoning, but disappointing entrees: chewy lobster roll and overpriced and overcooked fluke (also very bland) and lamburger. Good dessert. Very good and not crazily priced wine list, but bottle ordered... More

The Chequit Inn is under new management and they have significantly improved the fine dining aspect. It will grow to a larger menu, I'm sure, but they just reopened with new management July 2015. We had the best fish dishes on Shelter Island at the Chequit Inn.

I am a summer resident of Shelter Island of many years and the Chequit has always been one of our go-to places. It was always very much a part of the annual experience for many long-term summer residents. The previous owners were not restaurateurs but the food was consistent, uncomplicated and always used local ingredients where possible. Was it great?... More

I stayed the weekend with my family in the back house bungalow. This place is great! Excellent service, nice rooms, comfy beds -- what more can you ask for? As a budget room, the back house bungalow isn't a full-on luxury room as you might expect, but it was comfy and totally suitable for me. My grandparents stayed in the... More

The new owners have transformed a dingy local dive into a sleek new venue. Gone is the smell of stale beer, smoke, and the pool table. In its place is a sleek new bar, new tables and floors, and a wonderful outdoor area. The wait staff was very attentive and helpful. The real star here is the food. The chef... More
