Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I sought out this restaurant after two different people told me about it when they knew I was going to Mauritius (one of which was a close friend who is a foodie and whose restaurant tips are always spot on, and the other was randomly...a Mauritian woman who overheard me talking to my friend in a coffee shop in the UK and she came over to say look for this place in Grand Baie!) I can see why it is Top Rated.. I ordered some fried squid for my starter and it was some of the best I've ever had.. Mauritian people love a fritter and they know how to do decent batter. Forget the tough rubbery rings in greasy batter that you get elsewhere... this was fresh squid lightly deep fried in a crispy batter that clung to the squid and the texture of the squid and the batter was spot on. Served with a luscious homemade mayonnaise to dip it in. For mains I chose red snapper grilled with a garlic butter sauce and served with savoury rice and a generous mixed side salad. Nothing more to say about that. 10/10! I did not have room for a dessert because they also gave e a few aubergine fritters as an appetiser when I sat down. I could have chosen a lobster or prawns but I had had them elsewhere and what I ordered was what I fancied that day, just right! It was lunchtime and it was filling without leaving me feeling overstuffed. It was easy to get a table without booking although it was lunchtime so I don't know whether I just got lucky, and/or whether booking would be advisable/essential for evening meals. The bill was a LOT cheaper than anticipated, given the quality quantity and presentation of the food! Definitely recommend.More

For our second night in Grand Baie, we headed out to La Rougaille Creole and were not disappointed. We had crab soup to start, coupled with the free aubergine fritters. Some people have commented that the crab soup is hard to eat but as long...as you ask for a finger bowl and take your time, it is all good fun. My shirt passed the messiness test so that was good. For mains we had the grilled tiger prawns in wine and the crab curry. Both were fantastic and amazing value for money considering what you would pay in the UK for prawns as big as these. Really good flavours and as good as you will find anywhere. To drink we had the rose wine and the home made rum. Not much to say other than the wine was drinkable and the rum was a good ‘sipper’. Total bill came to equivalent of £45. Would recommend a visit and hope to come back before the end of our trip.More

The food was nice and we were greeted with a free starter. The staff were friendly and attentive. I ordered the prawn curry and wished to have more sauce as I felt it was a bit dry. Everything tasted good though and I’d come back!

During our 2 week stay in Grand Baie, we ate here 4 times. One was for my husbands birthday meal. The food, the service and the ambience is all excellent. We were delighted to have been on 2 of our visits entertained by a great...trio. All requests taken and hearing a whole restaurant with people from all over, united in their singing of a pop song was an experience I’ll cherish for a long time! Keep doing what you’re doing!!More

An authentic Creole dining experience with live music on certain days, great food, good beer and excellent cocktails. It can be very busy but depending on the day you may still be able to walk up. Good and friendly waiting staff as well. English, French...and Creole spoken.More

Excellent vibe and food, and staff is even better. Our younger kid started feeling unwell from something he ate earlier in the day. The cab would have taken 15 mins to arrive so one of the staff offered to drive him + mom to the...hotel. It was a wonderful human gesture — if we all could be like this to each other we would live in a better world. Recommended 5 stars!More

Been to this restaurant 3 times, food is great, drinks are great, nice music in the background, which is not overpowering. Atmosphere very pleasant and customer service even better. Our waiter Olivier was very professional, knowledgeable with the menu and always suggested the best option....Definitely recommend!More

Very hot, small courtyard. They brought warm white wine and asked if it was ok? I said no, then they brought me ice??? The fried squid was raw, I asked for it to be fried, it became a little better. The king prawns were good....The steak was fully cooked, although we asked for medium. The bill was 65€.More

We went on a set menu night and was treated to an exquisite dining experience. 6 courses each served perfectly cooked and presented. Paid a bit more than I normally would but was totally happy with the expense.

Staff is quite inattentive and not responding to guest requests. Food was mediocre and grilled fish was terrible, not fresh, not well cocked or grilled and no taste at all. We definitely were expecting some more quality here but it seems it is a bit...a tourist trap. We would definitely not recommend the place. There are better places in Grand Baie.More

At first glance, the little restaurant doesn't look that impressive but wow, the food is fantastic! A wide selection from the ocean combined with other local dishes perfectly cocked! Very friendly staff, good drinks and their own rhum was delicious. Regarding prices they are very...good as well, great value for even greater food. A must if you are visiting Grand Bae!!More

This is a must do for anyone wanting to taste good seafood. We were early, so lucky to get a table. I would suggest booking beforehand. It's busy for a good reason. The food is excellent and the prices are also on point.

Keep the rum in a cool place until you want to drink it. It should be ready to drink straight away if you want. Either eat the fruit or use it in deserts - don't throw it away.
