We struggled to get a reservation at Dibble and Grub..... no wonder it was amazing. Situated on Porthcressa Beach overlooking the ocean. There’s a number of tables and chairs outside and the tables inside are socially distanced. The staff are excellent and you can be reassured, are fully compliant with COVID restrictions. Dibble and Grub have an extensive tapas menu and for those who are unsure of what and how much to order they have some Dishes the chef has selected for two or more people. Otherwise there is a large selection of tapas dishes to choose from. Do not miss out on the potato wedges with sea salt delicious. To accompany your tapas there’s a really good wine selection along with beers and cocktails. If you still have space the desserts are lovely the chocolate, Chia and cardamom cup was incredibly moreish. In summary the food was amazing, the staff were friendly and knowledgeable, the view was fabulous and I can highly recommend a visit... but book ahead it’s very popular.

My husband and I booked ahead (necessary in the current climate) and managed to get an outside table. The restaurant and staff are very aware of current COVID restrictions and our table was fully cleaned before we sat down. You are asked to wait outside before being seated (hand get is available inside and outside) and when visiting their toilet you don’t queue in the narrow corridor but in a socially distanced area. During our visit the menus are just for you (they are cleaned before being given to others) and all items delivered to your table are left on the tray (on the table) for you to remove. Although it’s sad to mention this before the actual service and food I wanted to reassure everyone that Dibble and Grub are handling the current situation extremely well and they need commending for it. Now to the normal stuff - the staff are welcoming and genuinely friendly. The food was delicious, we had a range of dishes and were pleased with all of them. The range of food is great, we had a number of tapas style dishes and then lovely desserts (brownie and cheese). The restaurant overlooks the beach and although a bit chilly in the evening we were offered blankets to keep warm. In summary I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant for dinner - a great location, great food and great staff.

I love that customer experience really matters to Dibble & Grub. I contacted the restaurant via Facebook Messenger a few weeks before our visit to book a table; the reply was prompt and really helpful and when I mentioned that it was for a birthday even offered to make a birthday cake. On the evening itself a lovely table with an amazing view of the bay had been reserved for us. The staff were really helpful and attentive without being intrusive and despite the extra precautions in place, the atmosphere was relaxed, with fantastic background music that added to the great ambience. All of the food that we ate was delicious, my personal favourites were the chorizo in red wine and the feta in tomato and oregano sauce. A couple of days later, I received a follow up Facebook message to check that we had a good time and that my husband enjoyed his cake, which was a lovely touch and totally unexpected. If you are staying on or visiting St Mary's, we highly recommend Dibble & Grub, just make sure that you book well ahead of your visit, otherwise you may end up missing out on a wonderful and memorable experience.

We visited four times twice in the afternoon and twice in the evening. Frankly for the view. Sat outside on a sunny day this tapas style restaurant May have the best seaside location on the islands. The three of us are vegetarian, the afternoon menu is just a few simple nibbles. Beers are varied, cocktails are strong. Nice wine wine. But really expensive. Four beers, five cocktails and a jug of sangria with a few nibbles £130. Evening meals quickly rack up and for Veggie customers we ended up ordering most of the menu. To end up with one small flat bread between three. Many bowls of basically dips. One Halloumi chip, a couple of potato wedges. We ordered three of what were described by the waiter as main courses. But each one was on about a table spoon each once divided. What other people ordered looked better, but for Veggies not great. With a couple of beers each and a bottle of wine it was over £50 each. We ate again when we got back to our accommodation. We are all fit, we drink to much but are not big eaters. The application of COVID restrictions is brutal. One of us for shouted at for removing a mask whilst still standing at our table after a trip to the loo. Seating is only allowed on 3 sides. The staff are quite rude. They answer back irritably at any comments about food or service. Great views, average and pricy food. Good cocktails. Rude staff. When we managed to get a table one afternoon that wasn’t booked for the evening. We weren’t allowed to stay, as we hadn’t booked. When I pointed out that they were turning away good customers, we were told that all of their customers spent a lot of money, but they had made the effort to book a table. The fact that our table wasn’t booked for later was lost on them. It appears that the cook knows exactly what each table will order that evening and has not a single extra item.

Such an unnecessary, complicated menu which many clientele appeared to struggle with. The waitresses were intense with their menu explanation, opinionated and downright rude. We had asked for the bill three times as I had been informed by email that we had to finish our meal by a certain time. We were told, "We can't give snip-snap service you know!" The portion of pitta bread was slight and simply not enough to mop up the generous hummus dip. Heard others asking for more pitta bread. too. The food was quite tasty, the views were gorgeous but the whole evening was a disappointment quite honestly.

We were a party of seniors all over 70 and one of our party over 80 We had booked this restaurant whilst at home a fortnight earlier as a last night celebration of our holiday on the Isles of Scilly. We had taken the precaution of confirming the booking when we arrived in St Mary’s 2days before the event. On arrival we were told that there had been a mix up with the booking. Apparently someone had tried to contact us and that we would have to eat outside. As it was October and the sun was due to go down in half an hour and despite the outside air temperature being 15( the blustery conditions rendered the temperature down to 12 because of wind chill ) we were obviously not happy. We were offered a free round of drinks or the option of rebooking for tomorrow, the latter was not an option. It was the end of the season and dining out opportunities were limited so going elsewhere was also not an option so we decided to make the best of it. The management did provide blankets and a heater was available attached to a parasol but in those conditions the heat was very quickly disappearing. The food when it came was delicious but the hot dishes cooled rapidly and it was a race to the finish. Needless to say we did not linger for desert or coffee. It was particularly galling that we were seated outside a window where a table for 4 which was empty could be seen inside. It is a shame that our memory of what could have been a very good last evening with good wine and delicious food has been tainted by what remains a mystery as we were never offered a full explanation as to why a ‘ mixup’ had occurred

Stopped here for a spot of lunch on our day trip to St Marys. We hadn’t booked a table so queued for 5 minutes until a table became available. Was well worth it food was lovely, would highly recommend. I had pork souvlaki with came with a wrap and salad, my partner had a burger and we got some potato wedges with garlic mayo to share. Waiter was very pleasant.

Lets start with the service. They are frighteningly COVID sensitive. Wear masks outside for seating, even if you are 1 foot away from your table. Servers bring one menu between all of us, again because of COVID, when drinks and food arrive, we must remove them from the trays. I have never done this on any other food place on the island. I started to order from the tapas menu, 'thats off menu', ok, Ill order this ' Thats off menu'. Several things were off menu including some drinks. Turns out they are closing for the season tomorrow. Fair enough. Food arrived incorrect, falafel tapas and not falafel flat breads. They replaced immediately. But it was things like the tomato and mozzarella salad (that was just a basic tomato sliced) that made me cross, because it had been refrigerated. As were the Dolmades freezing cold. It should be at room temperature. otherwise you cant taste anything. Dolmades leaf also tasted old. The artichokes were straight out of a jar. So the tapas was frankly something I can make for myself at home. Deserts were basic, and frankly when your are outside in October weather, a warming pud would go down a storm, like what was on the horizon. Summary, dont expect some kind of magical experience and you'll be still freezing cold.

Initially there was a problem with the booking because I booked for the Friday evening but a couple of days later a man phoned me to cancel it saying that there was a new booking system and that table was not available. I managed to book for the Saturday instead. However on Friday evening I received a call from a woman in the D&G saying that I had booked a table and was I on my way? Fair enough because a no show means lost money but they had cancelled my reservation. Fortunately the booking for Saturday had been made. We have eaten in the Dibble and Grub many times. It has been one of our favourite restaurants for dinner. This time the food was good, we had the Tapa Taster - the starter was a bit dry but the selection for the main was good. I had the vegan dessert but it wasn’t great. The servers did keep coming back check if we had chosen but that was ok. The problem was that when we had paid the bill we were told we had ten minutes in which to drink up and leave! There was an empty table behind me. They even came back again to ask us to go. This left a nasty taste! I know times are hard and they need to make their money during a short season but do they have to be so officious? The D&G has always had a relaxed atmosphere but it is different now.

Having been unable to book an evening meal due to the popularity of this restaurant we managed to get in for lunch after a short wait. Having eaten at several places this holiday this was by far the best meal we have had the food was fresh, flavoursome, well presented, plenty of it and value for money the staff were attentive and nothing was too much trouble. We will certainly book well in advance for our next trip so we can sample the evening menu.

We sat outside for an evening meal, party of 6. The menu for Tapas is huge and you could sit there for ages choosing your individual dishes. So we opted for set menus with one or two extras. The food was tasty and we enjoyed our food. We are long time visitors to the islands and loved our view looking out over Porthcressa. Have ate here numerous times over years. The down side to the evening was the organization of people queuing for a table or people asking for a table. What happened was people didn't queue but stood in groups behind our table or stood in big semi circles, wasn't very relaxing and chaotic. Which was a bit ironic as the waitress was very keen to explain covid regs to us and other seated diners, but didn't really implement them for people who turned up either for a booked table or those who asked for a table.

Lovely setting on the waterfront at Porthcressa, we sat inside but there is a view of the beach. The tapas were great, we weren't particularly familiar with tapas but the waiter was really helpful and we weren't disappointed, it was delicious. The dessert was great too as was the special Dibble & Glug beer. All in all a great evening out.

We tried to eat there today as they weren’t accepting bookings for lunch ,the waitress told us to move over to queue so people could get passed so we did .There was one group in front of us but when the red haired waitress spoke to us again 10 mins later ,she said there was no room she could have told us that instead of making us form queue like naughty children ,we then heard the male waiter saying to people after us he could reserve tables but there’s a wait . We gave up and went to the nice cafe instead . I worked in hospitality and treated people with respect ,sadly we didn’t get that today

I love this place, the music, the atmosphere, the position on Porthcressa Beach, St Mary's and of course the food. I have eaten here several times, always on the last day of our holiday, whilst we wait for the plane home. The house Burger is always tasty, comes with the most amazing chips. They look slightly over done, but please just taste, they are totally delicious every time! They are quite possibly the tastiest chips I have tasted. The view is perfect, I have sat on the prom and also inside. Watching the staff work is unbelievable, they don't stop. The place is busy, popular and small so if you want a table you may have to wait (you cannot reserve), but it's worth it, you really will have a fabulous time. Highly recommended, great tapas, music, decor and service, just head for Porthcressa Beach along from the Tourist Information Bureau, with tables right on the promenade.

We were recommended to this restaurant which for some reason we hadn't been to before It's really busy and we could only get a table outside but fortunately it was dry and they provide blankets for when the sun goes down. The menu is extensive with everything you could want in the way of tapas, all beautifully cooked and well presented. Total bill was £170 for four people, including drinks and service. Definitely recommended, will definitely go again.
