The food here is outstanding. The food is somewhat expensive, but portions are large. This is not a place for children under 14. Cocktails are very good. Expect to pay for 4 anywhere from 120 - to 200 dollars including cocktails. It is one of favorite places. Make sure you call for a reservation as it might be hard to... More

Crook's Corner has been around since I went to UNC Chapel Hill in the 1980's. I am back in 2013, and it has not changed one bit. From the quirky wood-carved pigs and other animals outside, to the bamboo courtyard outside the little bistro on the corner of Carrboro and Chapel Hill border; this place will blow your mind. It... Have lived in this area for 10 years and have always heard about Crooks. Finally went last week and was pretty disappointed. Expected more atmosphere - small inside - loud. The hostess and staff were not very friendly - didn't seem to value my business at all. The food is just average - can get better food in other places... More

Fortunately we had reservations, but on Sundays when Crook's Corner opens for brunch there is a line waiting outside. I think you would get in right at 10:30 (when they open) without a reservations, but why risk it. My daughter and her family (with two small children) took me there for my birthday. I had the Eggs New Bern, which... More

First time at Crook's and will be back. My friend and I enjoyed the shrimp and grits, the sweet potato tamale appetizer and house salads. Our waitress was great, not intrusive but perceptive. The inside is tiny and somewhat noisy. It was a little too warm inside, but not unbearable.

This place was one of the trailblazers in the Southern Food renaissance. A funky, casual, unique decor outside and in; the best time to enjoy it is during pleasant weather out on the patio. However, the patio is covered and heated for year-round use. Inside space is tight with tiny bar and tables exposed to entrance and traffic to patio... More

Salad was overdressed and just tasted of vinegar. Tried the turtle soup on the recommendation of our waitress and it was under seasoned and kinda of flavorless. In fact, most soups I've had out of a can have been better. Best part of the meal was the cabbage side with the steak. Asked for a sweet white wine and got... More

Crook's Corner is one of Chapel Hill's premiere restaurants and has been ever since it opened. Brunch there is a local tradition. Crook's prepares locally produced food using tradition Southern ingredients often with an eclectic flare. Diners can order more traditional dishes like fried chicken and barbeque, or friedNorth Carolina seafood, as well as steaks and vegetarian dishes. Brunch is... More

The food was good but no better than many places right in Durham where I live and not as good as say, Alivia's, Another Broken Egg. We went for breakfast on a Sunday, conversation not possible at a normal tone.

Had a brunch here on Sunday. Six of us including two young grandchildren. This place is very typical of the South we are finding. Everyone who works in these Chapel Hill restaurants is so accommodating and seems so happy to be working there, it warms my cold New Jersey heart. We are so accustomed to indifferent service, being greeted the... More
