I went with a small party and dropped $700 (it was my birthday). I got food poisoning from the beef tartare and went to the ER 2 days later, so that cost me another $600. I just came back from Jakarta and assumed it was...a bug I picked up over there until I heard a friend I split the dish with also had the same symptoms. The serving staff were fine minus one disgruntled person. Stoked I flew around the world, avoided Bali belly, only to come back and get food poisoning almost immediately. 10/10 location tho. I love DPAC and DBAP.More

My best friend (nicknamed Nana) and I finished a terrible day at Duke Med, and wanted to cheer up with dinner at this restaurant we’d googled, Nanasteak. We entered the front door and were greeted by a female hostess saying we could sit at the...bar but not in the dining room as the dining room was booked with no openings all night. I could not sit on a high top seat due to a medical implant. We were dressed casually, but figured our money was still good - apparently not. As we were standing there trying to figure out what to do, two more people dressed less casually came in. They told staff they did not have a reservation… and after also being told by the hostess that the dining room was booked, an exception was made and they were seated in the dining room without wait and without issue. When we pressed, and asked why two other people didn’t have reservations but were seated immediately, the hostess lied and said the people did in fact have a reservation. We were again told there were zero tables available for the rest of the night. We exited and walked back to the parking deck, where we checked OpenTable and saw multiple reservations open for a little later in the evening. My best friend, of Hispanic origin, was left to wonder if she/we were turned away because she was in shorts or if it was because she was Mexican. We decided to drop $150 for dinner at Parizade instead, and they were so warm and welcoming; and the food was outstanding! I rarely leave bad reviews, but unfortunately had to here. We were not welcome at Nanasteak.More

NanaSteak is a classy restaurant and has a very good menu and excellent food. Service was great. The fillet mignon was excellent and cooked perfectly. Sides are ordered a la carte. The mac and cheese was only fair. The grilled brocolli and cauliflower was good....The calamari appetizer was good but seemed to have only a small portion of calamari that was supplemented by fried peppers and arugala. The salmon was excellent. Prices are somewhat high but quality and service is expensive. The restaurant is conveniently located next to DPAC and a parking garage is adjacent.More

Had a Friday night reservation at 7:45. Arrived early but were seated quickly Nice table near the kitchen. Drinks were excellent, the St. Charlotte and spicy strawberry margarita. Waiter arrived and provided some brief tips on the menu- salads are large and shareable, same with...the sides. He disappeared then for quite a while, seemed to pay extra attention to the two tables next to us who were ordering wine and perhaps more expensive items. Finally came to us to take our order, and left without much comment. Food arrived promptly, and everything we ordered was very good. We split the caesar salad and both ordered the 6 oz. filet, with a side of fingerling potatoes small side of the NC citrus shrimp. (The shrimp was the only food that disappointed.) Steaks were cooked perfectly. It took a long time after we finished for the waiter to even glance at us for a dessert order. The crème brûlée was good, but he forgot to bring the coffee we ordered. Overall, food was excellent, service mediocre.More

Heard great things. Wanted amazing steak. Service and food were ok. Fries were decent! Steak was poorly cooked. First was over cooked. Second was rare. No apologies were offered. Would not be a high end choice for the future but maybe ok for a basic...meal.More

Every member of staff we encountered made us feel that they were doing everything possible to make our visit the best it could be! My husband and I enjoyed a delicious baguette and house salads. The balsamic vinaigrette was the perfect balance of tartness and...sweetness. His pork shank with polenta was plentiful and scrumptious. I had the Steak Tartare as my entree, as I rarely get the opportunity. It did not disappoint with its accompaniment of freshly cut potato chips and pickled veggies. We will be back many times in the future, as we are regular attendees at DPAC events and the cuisine and location cannot be beat!More

Hard to know how to rate this restaurant. The food was superb but the noise level was over the top. I am used to noisy restaurants, but this one was out of control. We had a miserable time in our party of four, trying to...hear each other. Would not return.More

An outstanding venue selected due to proximity to DPAC, we will be returning at our earliest option whether attending a show or not. JP was our incredible server, friendly efficient and knowledgeable. Ordered prime rib and he informed me slight delay due to earliest arrival...at 5PM (he wanted to be sure the 5:45 time would not be a concern for making our show.) My beautiful daughter ordered filet mignon. Both steaks were perfect. We selected the asparagus and braised broccoli/cauliflower veggies which were fantastic as well. The rest of the staff we encountered were so nice and pleasant on a very busy night. Looking forward to our next trip.More

We were visiting and wanted to try this, since the previous Nana’s had closed. Glad we had a reservation, as it was busy even at 5:30pm. It’s certainly a very contemporary environment, rather than “stuffy steak place” surroundings. We ordered cocktails and wine while we...reviewed the menu. The owners recognized our guest as a frequent patron of the previous Nana’s. Had a great exchange about the wines and menu items. Since the specialty was Prime Rib the 3 of us ordered them. Just WONDERFUL! I looked at the size and couldn’t believe I’d eat all of it, but I surprised myself. Probably THE best I’ve ever had. We also ordered Asparagus and the special fries, also got with a bottle of the Unity wine and the cake of the day, which was Strawberry Shortcake. Our server Colleen did a nice job and I can’t think of anything we could have asked for to make this a better dining experience.More

We sat in outdoor tent so I can only say the inside was well laid out and spacious. We were greeted and sat promptly by a cordial young lady. Our waitress, Colleen was extremely nice and friendly. She served us well along with the other...staff members who were attentive and pleasant. We were 2 couples. The cocktails were very good. They actually use the correct amount + of liquor for the gin and tonic and Manhattan we ordered compared to many places. We had the pork ribs and kimchi as appetizers. Tender, taste was excellent with a light miso glaze. You get 4 ribs. Main course consisted of 1 order of filet minion, 2 NY strips and salmon. All steaks were cooked perfectly, medium and medium rare. Generous size and sides were very good. Salmon was done perfectly also. Our sides were the gold potato purée ( cream potato) and broccoli rabe. ( thin stalks coved with thin layer of spinach) also had the waguy fat fries. Don’t miss that treat. The seasoning on them were great on top of the excellently done fries. We had the desserts of creme brûlée, brownie and peach cobbler. Could not ask for better. Overall it was an excellent meal and service. The tent for warm and there was no fan air circulation. The music provided by small wireless speakers could not be heard very well. I would improve that. They were busy yet you did not feel ignored or slighted. It’s expensive but worth it.More

We only made reservations the night before so had an early seating at 5:30, which was great. The restaurant was not very busy at that time, however by the time we left it was full. Parking was very easy as there was no Bull's game....The marinated grilled shrimp appetizer was very flavorful and would recommend it. Both the prime rib and filet minion were order medium rare and came that way. The both were very tender, flavorful. The creamed spinach was exceptional, however the fries while good were over salted. The horseradish sauce was initially on the bland side, but the staff brought additional horseradish which allowed me to make it more to my liking. We were to full to order dessertMore

My wife and I went for my birthday this past weekend. We got the beef meatballs as an appetizer. When we cut them open they were visibly pink and not cooked all the way. Assuming that it would be fine since it’s beef, we ate...them. Bad mistake. We spent the entire next day wrapped around toilets from food poisoning. As far as the entrees go though, ours were delicious. I ordered my steak medium and it practically came out well done.More

This past weekend on a golf trip to Durham NC to play Duke golf Course. We went searching for dinner options on Saturday for a party of 4. We stumbled on Nana Steak with no reservations on a Saturday night. During these Covid times everything...in Durham is limited seating or outdoors. We are from South Carolina where things are much more open and less restricted. Anyway we arrived at Nana Steak and the hostess said she could probably seat us in approx 30 - 45 minutes. We decided to stay and in the interm have a drink prior to dinner. While we sipped our cocktails she came over and sat us outside with heaters. Approx 20 minutes after we arrived. Our waiter Justin was outstanding. Personable, knowledgeable and there when we needed him. The apps of kimchi pork ribs and gnocchi were wonderful with great spice and depth of flavor. There was also a strip steak and filet mignon both done perfect. Not to be missed were the brussel sprouts and waygu beef fat fries. For a dinner that was on the fly we couldn't have asked for a better result. Between the staff (everyone) to the meal it all hit the mark. Next time in Durham we will have a reservation. Top shelf in downtown Durham next to the Aloft hotel. Great job to all at Nana SteakMore

I am a new visitor to Durham, but this little restaurant was amazing, even after some rain downpours, and, of course, opening 3 days ago after COVID related closure mandates were lifted for them. They now have all outdoor dining, and a select, but delicious...menu! I understand they just built their outdoor dining pavilion, which offers a nice ambience. Service is great, cocktails amazing, and we loved our meals. The tuna was good, and some of our party had the steak options, which did not dissapoint, considering this was in the name!More

I just ate there. I have no idea what the salaries are for the servers or what they typically make in tips. I would google NanaSteak and speak to someone there. Ask for someone in charge of hiring.

No...when we were there it was mostly casual. I saw no one in a suit, although there was a bridal shower seated near us dressed sharply. We went what I would call business casual.
