About
Birkenshaw has been without the local it deserves for far too long. That's why we decided to do something about it. The golden Fleece is an independently owned pub with no ties to any particular brewery which gives us the freedom to choose any drinks we like, whenever we like. We aim to provide a welcoming local pub where you can have a quality drink (or three!) and delicious fresh food that really makes an impression. We're proud to serve freshly prepared Great British pub food... and we mean great! Made from locally sourced, seasonal ingredients, we cater for meat lovers and vegetarians alike. Why not try our traditional Sunday Roast or one of our themed specialty evenings? You won't be disappointed

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We have dined in the establishment many times but sadly tonight was the last time. The food was cold and below average. The service was slow with the poor waitresses constantly apologising for the failure of the cook(there is no way he can be called...a chef). I am saddened that the staff and management are being let down by the arrogant little man in the kitchen.More

Staying at the Premier Inn straight off the motorway ready to head into Pudsey for a business meeting the next day. We were advised The Golden Fleece was a great place to eat. This proved to be perfect advice, we had a lovely meal, great...value and the service was first class... the lovely Matt and the team greeted us and we were well looked after. Thanks again, you will be our pit stop as we head up from Brighton on business again soonMore

Open 7 days a week with a really good bar menu and a lovely more formal restaurant are and menu. Great cooking and some imaginative starters ( eg duck lollipop - delicious) and interesting tweaks to standard classics. No specials but the menu does change...from time to time.More

Nice tasting food but be prepared to feel hungry afterwards as the portions are small for the high price. Shame really as this will put people off from being repeat customers.

Lovely pub, good atmosphere and just great all round. Staff are really good. Was even in the night before with 3 good mates sampling the Guinness. Food was great,we both had the Beef Dinner, cannot complain about it at all, spot on great presentation and very tasty. Had...a great and very nice dessert too. Sticky toffee pudding & Apple pie. Again very tasty & presented well. Would recommend the place to anyone even tho it is just a little pricey. Thanks again for the lovely food.More

We had an amazing Sunday dinner. Mike the manager made us feel really welcome and Lexi the young lady serving us was a credit to you. Nothing was too much trouble. The pigs cheek starter was awesome as were the mains and desserts. A warm...friendly and welcoming establishment. Well worth a visit.More

Very small portions, two dry small prawns with a salad to start. Burger and fries for main, the burger was almost like a burger van burger, poor quality meat. Left feeling I could eat more.

First time visit with my other half, brother in law and his partner for Sunday lunch. My sister lives nearby and had recommended The Golden Fleece to us so we drove the 30mins from Halifax to see what the fuss was about! In short, a...very nice pub venue with a convivial atmosphere. Food and drink served by cheerful waiting staff arrived promptly and was of very good quality. We all agreed a return visit was in order and will be back in the new year.More

This is the 4th time I've been, twice for lunch & twice for dinner & as always it was fabulous. Went last night as a couple & both of us chose from the festive menu, from which we were both spoilt for choice but we...thought it was good that there was a choice of classics if there wasn't anything to tempt you on the festive menu. We honestly couldn't fault a thing about our evening...the food was amazing, presented beautifully & tasted wonderful, the staff were really pleasant & engaging & the place felt warm & cosy on a foul night, weather wise! Great atmosphere, great service & fabulous food!More

Visited today for Sunday lunch. The Christmas menu was available. We chose a traditional beef slices, roasties, seasonal veg and Yorkshire puddings followed by dessert. The food was very tasty. Great, welcoming staff attended us throughout the meal. The restaurant has just put up christmas...decorations, so atmosphere is very friendly and inviting. We were in at 1.00, and every table was filled so be sure to book early.More

We decided to call here for Sunday lunch after visiting the local garden centre for Christmas decorations (we booked in advance). I won’t say much as there isn’t a need to say much beyond “fab-u-lous” . I had a started off Roasted Tomato Soup with...Balsamic Vineger followed by sausage and mash. My better half skipped on the starter and had the beef dinner. Portions were generous and you could tell the quality of the ingredients used.More

We went for Sunday lunch, when the food arrived it was luke warm, borderline cool & very uninspiring. The dessert was scoops of ice cream with raspberry sauce on, very ordinary. The standard of food has dropped remarkably since our previous visit & we will...not be tempted to return anytime soon.More

The only place you can go with your dog is to sit out back for a drink. Ok in the summer but not good in the cold weather ! If you want drinks only, the The New Inn in East Bierley is dog friendly, but only pub snacks... More
