Our usual lunch stop off en - route to family in Cornwall, so anticipating the possibilty of it being a bit busier than normal so near to Christmas, despite the covid situation, we booked in advance. What a surprise to find an empty pub, but...we were greeted as being expected, so thought that other guests would arrive later. But another surprise, a very limited menu choice and then to overherar a conversation between the chef?? and the barlady that all food was then cancelled. Our order did eventually arrive, ( not sure why egg and chips and a burger and chips needed 40 minutes to cook - even from scratch) but whilst the food was ok, the atmosphere was cold and uncomfortable and not a patch on its previous excellent quality. Obviously a problem somewhere. Hopefully it will be sorted out by the time we revisit in the new year.More

Visited as staying at nearby Eggbeer Farm prior to wedding booked a table in advance for 11. We ordered at around 6:40. Firstly the young waiter was obviously very inexperienced and didn’t know what a Guiness and black was and he took a long while...to take the orders which was not a huge problem just a little frustrating, but rather he got orders right than rush. It is worth noting the pub was empty other than us. There was a small child aged 3 needing tea before bed. Hence we booked the table early. Only one person ordered a starter..the main meal came out (very staggered) starting at 8:10. By this point the little one was quite tired and grumpy but ate his dinner and almost fell asleep on table. I ordered the special steak and took a picture. It was laughable! It was around £14 and it was about a tablespoon of peas, I actually counted I think 11 chips, and the sauce was a ready made awful liquid in a ramekin. My partner ordered fish and chips and I can tell you it was a quarter of the size of the fish in the picture from the pub!! None of the good looked anything like the pictures you see. It was such small portions and nothing like the ‘posh’ pictures!! I’d say that’s false advertising. I think perhaps the young chap serving was also cooking that night, or that’s what it seemed like! My husband asked for a slice of bread and butter with his fish and chips and we got about half a loaf of bread that was toasted. Thank god for that as we all topped up our hungry tums with toast! The most odd meal I have ever had, steak with a slice of toast!! When I explained at the bar I wasn’t really happy to pay full price he offered to take the drinks off the bill for the 5 people I was paying for. We all only had one or two max so I wasn’t really impressed with this and would not recommend to anyone or return to the pub. It’s a real shame as I think it has potential, but at the moment really unimpressed. The staff were nice enough but I’d be embarrassed if it was my establishment to be honest. We went to the nearby Morrisons to pick up chocolate for dessert rather than eat any there!More

This pub/restaurant is only a couple of minutes drive from the main route to Cornwall, and in an ideal place for a quiet break. There is a free car park across the road and a small, but very pretty garden at the back. A young...lady, [who looked too young to be in a bar!], greeted us and was a delight, friendly but efficient, and couldn't do enough to make our lunch perfect. The food was very good, served quickly, with good potion sizes and presented nicely. A perfect place to visit en-route, but even if you're anywhere in the neighbourhood, definitely worth calling in. Next time we drive that route, we will return.More

Managed to get in without booking mid-week for a meal, lovely place. Two female staff on (Wed) worked very hard and were friendly and helpful. Nice meal, good choice on menu, value for money and friendly welcoming atmosphere. Would recommend.

We were looking for somewhere off the A30 to stop for a break and refreshment on our way to Cornwall a couple of weeks ago and came across The Old Thatch Inn purely by accident. We were impressed by the price and the quality of...the beer (husband) and one of the nicest coffees I've had anywhere. The young staff were also extremely friendly and the atmosphere great. A lovely little place.More

The staff are very friendly and helpful. We had drinks there twice. Once at the front and the other in the beer garden at the back. The young girl who served us was lovely a credit to the pub. Just wish we could of saved...their food. We are going home tomorrow so unfortunately we won't get chance. Wish you every success in the future.More

Very basic pub food menu but in good quantity and quality. Service was very friendly but unfortunately the young girls serving need some bar-training! They had no idea what Bitters were on, or the difference between that and a lager. All important in these days...of table service! Other slightly odd thing was they had no puddings on offer, not even local ice cream. Felt like they had missed a trick there. We got chatting to the couple on the next table and all four of us would have had a pudding if they had offered something. Did not see outside area or use loo so can’t comment on them. Pub tables were ‘normal space’, I’d say, so if you want a two metre gap, you’d need to go elsewhere or find somewhere outdoors. Other odd thing is that the car park sign is only from one side. We approached from Crockernwell end and there no indication about pub car park opposite. So, bar training, puddings and a car park sign! But nothing wrong per se...More
