Made a visit to the newly reopened Dunkirk pub and restaurant in lower Denby on a Sunday afternoon for a 3.30 table reservation. First impressions of the new interior was the open plan layout with just a two sided fireplace seperating the lounge / Snug area from the main part of the restaurant. Our table was in the snug area... More

First time at the Dunkirk. Initial feeling was what a great place, well appointed and pleasant atmosphere. Initial greeting by staff was excellent. After that it wasn't quite so good. All starters were well served and tasty, main courses not so. 3 out of the 6 main courses were poor. Steak not cooked as requested, tagliatelle was covered in olive... More

What a fabulous little jewel, we visited on Saturday evening for the first time. We tried to book a table for dinner before hand but unfortunately they were fully booked. We decided to visit anyway and just have a drink, the atmosphere was fantastic, really busy without being uncomfortable. The place had a real buzz. The Gin Menu was extensive,... More

Visited the newly refurbished and re-launched Dunkirk Inn for lunch on a dull January day. Inside, this old country pub and restaurant is decorated in fashionable grey, with the stone flagged floors kept warm with wood burning stoves and an efficient heating system. Everything about The Dunkirk was done well, service was friendly but not overbearing, the menu focussed on... More

The renovation has made for a fabulous experience. The menu whilst not extensive, cover all bases. There is a specials board as well. We went on a Saturday teatime, I would suggest booking a table. There were four of us, two had fish and chips, I had the chicken and pearl barley risotto , one had the burger. All four... More

Morning Anita, Thank you for this great review after visiting us on Saturday teatime. It's great to hear all of you enjoyed the food and the selection of beer, lager and gin were to your liking. We've worked hard to create a place where people want to come for a drink or a bite to eat. We look forward to... More

The refurbished Dunkirk is beautiful - what a difference from before! The food was good but the service was appalling! Staff training would not go amiss in this beautiful restaurant/pub. We took our son there for a birthday celebration - it was crowded but that is to be expected when it is mostly a pub so cannot complain about that.... More

Morning Trish, Thank you for your lovely comments about the work that's been put into transforming The Dunkirk, we're very proud of it. It's great to hear the food has been good on both of your recent visits and I'll pass this onto our chef. Please be reassured our staff are undergoing training but if you have some specific feedback... More

Oh dear. Looks nice and fresh inside, albeit a little sterile. Result = people are enticed to come in. However, surely the aim for any local pub/eatery - especially in the current economic climate - is to make sure people come back. We won't be coming back. The problem is the food. Burger sent back - inedible. Info: For me... More

Good Afternoon Rebecca, Firstly, let me say how pleasing it is that you found our waiting on and bar staff friendly and accommodating. Your comments will be passed onto those working at the time of your visit. Secondly let me reassure you on the provenance of the beef we use for our burger. It is steak mince from Gawthorpe butchers... More

This tastefully renovated pub was an absolute joy to visit for our annual Cricket Club awards dinner! The best catering I've had for 50 people in the area. Friendly enthusiastic young staff, excellent range of beers and affordable quality wines. This event was on only their 2nd day after reopening and they did really well. I have since returned as... Had great lunch, soup, sandwiches and proper cooked chips, and the halloumi cheese and prawn starters with chips- huge portions. Everything tasty and generous flavours and portions. Drinks really cheap and a good range of specialist brewery beers. Super refurbishment means surroundings and beautiful- tasteful and expensive furnishings and decorations. Really lovely place and the staff are very friendly and... More

What a great job they've done on this old pub! Tremendous refurbishment that brings it into the 21st century but retains the 'old fashioned' blend of excellent service, great food and good value in a stylish and comfortable pub. My wife's risotto was beaten only by the home made fish and chips I had. Just like Arnie Schwarzenegger - we'll... More
