About
This is a pub in a very quiet village in Cambridgeshire we went for a meal on a Groupon voucher and would have willingly paid the full price, the food and service was excellent (they also have rooms) much better than you would expect for such an out of the way place. It is also near the Wetlands and Wildfowl Trust which is worth a visit

Lovely Sunday roast, great choice of meat, beef, pork, lamb or turkey and a number of other options including vegetarian. Each roast was accompanied with a large Yorkshire pudding, 2 large fluffy roast potatoes and gravy. Dishes of Carrots, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower cheese and mash potato as well as a gravy boat completed the mains. There are a large choice of desserts and coffees, we chose the homemade cheesecake, which happened to be chocolate cheesecake today , sticky toffee pudding with custard and a portion of ice cream. All pudding offered with custard, cream or ice cream. The pub is very welcoming and the staff friendly and attentive. Plenty of parking, but recommend making a reservation as whilst we were there a number of “drop ins” were sadly turned away. Have always had great food and service and today was no exception.

Called in when in the area hoping they could fit our family in for Sunday Lunch having not booked. So pleased they squeezed us in. Food was fantastic, 3 of us had the turkey and one the nut roast. Portions were generous, lots of vegetables, piping hot, really tasty. Service was excellent lovely staff, can't recommend enough. Thank you for a lovely lunch.

Came for dinner recently for the first time and the food was exceptional, young man behind the bar was very welcoming and kept our drinks topped up all night. Our server called Kat was wonderful and very knowledgeable about the food options. They are a credit to your staff, will definitely be back again.

Travelled 22 miles round trip on recommendation this evening to visit the Lamb and Flag. First impressions, not a particularly warm welcome, the locals at the bar seemed hard pressed to pull their chairs in to let people pass into the restaurant! However the pub is nice, clean and we were given a lovely table for 2. Quick service from the waiter who took our drinks order and shortly after came back and asked what we would like to eat. I ordered olives and my partner ordered the prawn cocktail for starters and both lamb shank for mains. So disappointed, as the almost £6 olives were clearly from a cheap jar as they were small and tasteless, no dressing. There was no chance of buttering the focaccia this side of Christmas, the chunks of butter were so hard. I complained straight away and I presume it was the landlady who came to ask about the problem. Sorry to say, as polite as I was in my genuine comments, I felt I was met with a Fawlty-Towers- Basil like response! No real concern, just an offer to warm up the butter! Prawn cocktail at over £8 was, according to my partner ‘ok’ but the sauce was a bit watery and prawns were very small. The saving grace was the lamb shank main which was delicious. Quality touches were missing, such as the cheap mint sauce we were given and we noticed sachets of the cheapest sauces for fish and chips a nearby table. Sad to say as much as we were looking forward to our visit, it fell well below our expectations and we won’t be back. To summarise, average pub food at restaurant prices.

Food presentation is abysmal; every course is served in bowls. Starter Fenland Chicken served in small desert bowl, on top of a very small salad (a garnish), not at all easy to manage to cut etc really needed to be on a small plate, I just gave up trying and my husband managed to eat most of mine as well as his. The mains then arrived in bowls too...Mine had sloppy mashed potato, topped with a small lamb shank then covered with red cabbage, not an appetising sight. I scrapped the cabbage to one side and removed the bone which I had to put on a napkin as there was no space for it, and once again cutting was very awkward at an angle and I had to move the meat off the potato, not an enjoyable meal... My husband’s meal of Porchetta (Stuffed Belly Pork) also arrived in a bowl stacked on one half of sloppy mashed potato and the other half red cabbage which looked very messy and not at all appetising. The pork was tough and hard to cut made even worse by being served in a bowl, and was very bland tasting. We ordered desert, a couple of scoops of ice cream for my husband which my husband said was the best part of the meal as it came as expected and had not been messed about with. I ordered Treacle Sponge with ice cream which arrived in a deep sided soup bowl (about 5 inches deep) with the ice cream on top of hot sponge, Although the angle of maneuver was awkward I had to agree with my husband that the sponge was the best part of my meal too.

Just been to the lamb and flag in Welney again for Sunday lunch , it never disappoints we meet family here as they come from Norwich and we come from Cambridge so half way for both . The staff are fantastic and always polite and give great service . The Sunday roast is the best Sunday roast for miles and we keep going back , choice of meats and home cooked Yorkshire’s and roast potatoes with choice of veg and mash and cauliflower cheese, really good value for money .

We were staying at Lode Lodges in Three Holes and the Lamb and Flag was recommended to us. A lovely welcoming pub with amazing food, the haddock was like a whale and I couldn't finish it as I also had a starter, next time we would just have a main course. Thank you very much.😋

We have been going to the Lamb and Flag for years but I have never written a review for them. Why? I don’t know. This is a gem of a Pub and Restaurant- family run and the food is delicious. We went again yesterday with 2 friends who were well impressed with the Sunday Lunch roast. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone- they cater for vegetarian and I think vegan ?

A very friendly greeting for me and my friend after a visit to the Welney WWT …. Lovely Elgood’s bitter, wish I could have had more than the single pint the fact that I was driving dictated. My normally vegetarian friend was moved to have the steak and ale pie, reassured by the quality of the meat from a very local butcher. My gammon was thick and tasty with a proper border of fat and the egg, chips, onion rings and salad complemented it beautifully. A proper country pub with great atmosphere, friendly staff, great food and beer. What more could you want?

We had another excellent lunch here. The food was beautifully cooked and offered an interesting choice of plates. The staff were everso friendly and helpful - nothing too much trouble, even bringing extra water for the dog bowl - we had two friendly dogs with us. The seating was comfortable inside and outside there was a large garden in full spring bloom, with lots of people in it.

This used to be THE place for Sunday Lunch , in fact we never go anywhere else , was bitterly disappointed today . Firstly the generous slices of roast beef were replaced with meat so thin you could see through it . The abundance of vegetables were replaced with 2 small portions between 6 of us , with barely enough to go round and the gravy , well it was so watery and tasteless it completely ruined whatever taste the meat may have had . I told our waitress my thoughts who said oh yes I will tell the chef . A bit late when the hot water posing as gravy had already diluted any taste . Coupled together with £7.95 for a dessert this will no longer be our “ go to” for Sunday lunch . There are better pubs doing far better roasts . Such a shame

Excellent Sunday lunch, we had beef, pork and lamb which were all cooked to perfection. Good selection of vegetables and a boat of full flavour gravy. Desserts of treacle pudding and custard that was traditional and scrumptious. All in all this is an excellent venue for a good well presented meal out. Looking forward to a return visit soon.

Phone booking for a family get together taken by a friendly lady. On arrival we were greeted warmly and given a choice of menus as well as having the selection of roasts of the day pointed out. Served by a friendly and helpful young man. Enjoyed all our food - starters of brie, whitebait and olives and mains of roast beef, roast lamb and lamb shank. All very tasty, hot, good portions and well presented. Good range of beers including local ones. Would definitely recommend and will return.

We were staying locally and ordered from their takeaway menu. Ordered 2 Brie starters and 3 mains of lamb shank, steak and ale pie and cheeseburger. Wow, great food, great price and large portions, everything was absolutely spot on and still piping hot even after a 15min drive back to where we were staying, the lamb just fell off the bone, the pie was stacked full and the burger was large and beautifully cooked, chucky chips were great too - can't recommend the food here highly enough
