Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We arrived here without a booking at 1pm with fingers crossed. It had great Google reviews and was half way home for us on our drive from the Lake District. We should have booked, but luckily one table wasn’t needed until 3pm so they managed...to fit us in as long as we vacated in time. We both had the Sunday roast with 1/2 roast chicken. It was fantastic! The gravy was probably the best I’ve had in years. Lovely veg, massive bit of chicken. Service was just right, and clearly a popular place for good reason.More

Visited for evening meal as a group of three. The food was ok but not exceptional Bd the prices were at the higher end. Staff were polite but got the impression they were keen to see us leave. Good location close to the canal but...will not be hurrying back.More

Excellent lovely place for a family meal. We stopped here a few months ago just for lunch and couldn't have been more pleased. We were back in the UK for a few days and were looking forward to dining there. Had a family meal last...Friday there and.. AGAIN.. so pleased with the staff, who were very helpful, service which brought all our meals at the same time.and the food 😋😋😋 We had Chilli chicken pieces, Homemade burger , roast chicken with mash and plenty of gravy. Veg stir fry and Beef and Ale pie with mash, fresh veg and plenty of gravy. Side portion of home made chips and onion rings . Two of our family are coeliac. No problem the staff made sure everything that needed to be gluten free was so. 👍👍👍 Also had drinks all round. All for under £120 X 6 people. We will be back again. 👍👍😋😋⭐⭐⭐⭐ Thank youMore

Nice looking pub in a nice location by the canal. Stopped for lunch and my mate ordered the Gammon & Egg while I ordered the Butter Chicken. The gammon dish was fine. The Butter Chicken Curry was DIRE! The meat was CUBES OF CHICKEN. It...looked like it was from a School Dinners pack. Dreadful! It was served with rice, soggy Naan and chewy popadom. I ate the rice and left the rest.More

First time visitors, 3 adults and small dog. Food was outstanding, though portions were on the large side for pensioners. However they did cater for myself having a small appetite due to health reasons. Staff very professional and nice atmosphere. Will return when back in...the areaMore

Having previously been and enjoyed a very nice lunch, we booked for eleven people for lunch on a days outing. Understandably, we needed to reserve a table. However, we were also asked for deposit and detailed menu choices for each person in advance! Unfortunately, on...the day, two of our party could not attend due illness but the staff were totally intransigent and refused to waive those deposits. My remonstrations were met with rudeness. Don’t think we will be going again. Management should question whether such attitude is really worth the loss of previously happy customers.More

Although we have have been here a couple of times before we found the attitude of one particular staff member completely unacceptable. Although it wasn’t busy with at least 25 tables available she tried to put us in a cramped tiny table because they MIGHT...get busy. When my wife questioned this she was given a look of complete disgust and told that that was all that’s available despite the fact that there was nobody else even considering ordering any food.More

Tried four times before reviewing , first two for Sunday lunch great ,good value lovely presentation ,then mid week rubbing food swimming in water from vegetables not being drained add the gravy food cold and soggy ,ok we all have off days ,Sunday lunch quantity...good , c Yorkshire over cooked to burnt ,could not get my fork through the stuffing balls ,desserts very very average, ok you will say we should have said something ,but you should get it right , as your prices have gone up standards have gone down ,please get back to being a good place to eat out , we like your pub ,but when times are hard and going out for a meal is a treat it is sad we come away and do not feel we got value for money, this is not a complaint it is letting you know to please try harder ,we want to come back to you for a nice good value meal ,Thank youMore

Went here Sunday for a dinner no lamb on the menu apparently all sold at 1.30 in the afternoon wouldn’t you buy more iff it’s popular? We normally come here and have had lovely meals but yesterday the Yorkshire puddings were flat as a pancake...and burnt the chicken has definitely got smaller. Cauliflower cheese was undercooked and watery . Really let down as we have never had problems before 🙄More
