We haven't been to Blakemere for quite some time and decided to visit on Thursday 1st October for coffee and cake.
I ordered a hot chocolate with all the trimmings and my husband ordered a large cappuccino and a scone with butter.
The drinks came in what I would describe as an ordinary sized cup and the scone very nicely presented on a slate.
I paid the bill, contactless of course, and on checking it at home saw that the scone had cost £4.95!!! I couldn't check beforehand as scones aren't mentioned on the menu. It was listed on the bill as "special of the day".
We used to go there often but I think it will be a very long time before we go again.

We stayed at the touring park and came here for Sunday Carvery and then again on the Monday for lunch. Staff were lovely and working hard and welcoming. The Carvery was delicious and we enjoyed it but for what it was we felt it was overpriced. You do get 20% off if staying at the touring park which helped. When we returned for lunch on the Monday the inside was full of wasps, they made it really uncomfortable as they kept dive bombing me and I couldn’t relax. The steak & caramelised onion ciabatta was delicious but my husbands chicken wrap lacked chicken the wrap was stuffed with coleslaw which he’d presumed would be on the side. The side of onion rings were left as it was just giant greasy batter and not much onion. Again really overpriced £53 for lunch for 2 adults & 1 child. I think they need to reduce the prices to help families and couples - especially in the current cost of living situation. The food & location wasn’t that special to incur a higher price. I really hope they consider prices as otherwise we wouldn’t return and other families were also commenting on this. Unless the price point is how they filter the clientele they receive ? All staff were lovely though and working hard. The village it’s located on has some lovely quirky shops and the touring park nearby is one of the nicest around.

I met a friend for lunch. I had fish and chips and she had the vegetarian lentil cottage pie, we both enjoyed the meals which were very tasty.
Service was a bit slow and the meals came before we had been given cutlery. One couple got up and left as no one had been to see them. It was quite busy but the service should be a bit better. Bit pricey for the type of eaterie it is but don't mind for a treat if the food is good as it was today.

We went this afternoon for a coffee and a dessert, when the waitress came to take our order she had no idea about a £6 coffee and cake deal which was clearly advertised and had to go and check. When the drinks came my j2o was the wrong flavour despite her double checking and the double espresso was cold, god knows how. Then for the dessert the gooey middle of my chocolate fondant was non existence and had clearly been heated in the microwave and I had more cream than I did cake. Useless never go here

Hi,
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I was very disappointed to read of your recent visit.
In terms of context, as you will no doubt be aware we were closed for over 4 months earlier this year and have recently taken advantage of the Government's incredibly helpful 'Kickstarter scheme' allowing us to employ several young people who are currently on Universal Credit and/or at risk of long-term unemployment, due to vacancies created by university leavers - with the Government taking on some of the cost of this.
This weekend was the first shift for our Kickstarters, who were wearing 'Trainee' badges which will explain why they may have sought advice from their Supervisor/Manager when you mentioned the coffee and cake deal. Similarly, with regards to the J2O, errors do occur (especially when it is your first shift), if you politely mentioned this to a member of staff they would have been more than happy to replace it for you, likewise with the coffee. As a business we pride ourselves on our customer service and endeavour to ensure that our customer satisfaction is as high as possible and we seek to rectify and problems that occur, as soon as possible.
I was especially disappointed to have received your review in light of the current climate, since we have reopened we have tried extremely hard to cope with a restaurant 50% of our usual capacity, transitioning to table service, implementing COVID-19 guidelines and very recently taking on several new members of staff - all of which have been incredibly difficult for a small business. We would kindly ask for some compassion and consideration at this time for our industry and for customers raise any issues that may arise with a member of staff so that they can be rectified swiftly.
If you would like to discuss this matter further, please feel free to email me: eat@visitblakemere.co.uk.
Thank you and stay safe.

We ate brunch here mid meek. It was moderately busy, but not packed out. Fairly quiet when we arrived, but by the time the food was ready it was midday so quite busy then. To be expected though in the summer holidays.
The food ingredients were of a decent standard. By that I mean the sausage and bacon were good and not cheap catering stuff. Also the sandwich fillings were generous with 3 sausages rather than the usual 2 for example.
I had a flat white coffee which was rather disappointing. It was very weak tasting. Like warm milk with a hint of coffee. Perhaps they served me the wrong one...
The menu had a good amount of breakfast choices. Note however that the food is at the upper end of the price scale for what it is. £4.50 for a bacon sandwich for example.
Where this all went wrong is the service. I'll bullet point it below:
The waitress kept switching who was looking after us which may well have added to the confusion.
The sandwiches were like warm.
One of them was supposed to have a well done egg so had to get sent back.
One person's food didn't arrive at the table. We had to ask for it.
No offer of any butter or sauce so we had to ask for that.
Three drinks ordered mid meal and only one of them turned up.
The scrambled egg was slightly watery which resulted in the toast underneath being soggy and getting left.
The sandwich which was sent back was returned to us, but it was obviously the same contents, but on new toast. The fried egg was broken up in ro several pieces from where it had been dragged off the previous sandwich.
When we asked for the bill we had to wait ages whilst other people around us paid and left even though we had asked before them.
We left with the feeling that we had been recognised as tourists and not local hence they were not bothered about the service they provided. We did notice some regular customers who were undoubtedly treated much more attentively.
We certainly wouldn't go back and I am unable to recommend this cafe.

Visited with my two teenage sons for a snack. Ordered nachos for one and a wrap and chips with drinks and coffee for myself. For what the meal was i found it expensive at approx £32.
Had quite a wait despite it not appearing to busy, was after 2pm so not during the lunchtime rush.
Food brought to our table and as the waiter placed the chips on the table over half spilt on to the table. He scooped them up and said he'd bring replacement. They never arrived, also had to ask for cutlery and sauces.
Once we had finished the meal explained situation to waitress who offered us a free drink or pudding, declined as finished meal. Requested refund on chips and told that she wasn't able to do that. I asked if there was someone I could speak to and she returned within minutes with a £5 refund.
Disappointed with the service, waiting times and lack of apology for wait times or spilling / replacement of food. Will not be visiting again.

We visited the restaurant to have the Su day carvery for the first time yesterday. Unfortunately it took about 40 minutes after arriving until we got our food which considering it is a help yourself carvery seemed like a long wait.
People who had ordered other dishes from the menu were served before we had even started.
When we arrived we were shown to a table and were told that someone would take our order but we seemed to be forgotten. After a 20 minute wait we got up and asked for drinks and explained that we wanted the carvery.
The waitress said they would have to wait for the carvery to be "clear" before we could get ours, which we understand because of the covid restrictions, however in all the time we waited we only saw 1 customer at the carvery.
We had to again get up and ask if we could go to the carvery and our original waitress seemed to forget about us.
When we were eventually allowed to get our food the chef was so busy serving up takeaway carvery orders that he ignored us for about 5 minutes. When I got to the front of the queue he put some meat on my plate and stopped what he was doing to start takeaway plates again!
They seemed really busy with takeaway orders which is obviously great news in the current climate however we felt they were ignoring actual restaurant customers and prioritising the takeaways.
When we did eventually all get our food it was nice however we won't be returning as the service did put a dampener on the experience for us.
There seemed to be lots of young staff but no-one actually overseeing the general management of the restaurant.

Called in for Sunday breakfast with my two year old granddaughter.
The young staff were huddled together at the door . I felt like an inconvenience to them to be asked to be seated.
One young girl came over I asked for two buffet breakfasts advertised on the menu as being £9 and Childs £6.25 . I said to have a little ones breakfast she will only eat toast again pointed you the child’s one so I said yes. The drinks came then nothing I had to ask about the breakfast and the young girl fished out three tokens out of her apron for us to go to the counter . The food was ok the experience not .
When the bill arrived
Our breakfasts 9.50
Child’s £7
I went up to pay and said your menu advertises different prices to what I have been charged. That’s not right under trades descriptions it’s a falsehood . The young girl said oh I’ll look into it . Totally not impressed

Popped in for a hot drink on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Shown to a table and order was promptly taken. Feeling in need of some self-indulgence, we ordered the Super Deluxe Hot Chocolates (marshmallows, whipped cream and a gingerbread which upgraded it from a Deluxe one).
This was soon served but was not as appealing as expected. The hot chocolate was lukewarm and the “gingerbread” was an unappetising Oreo biscuit. The cost of this was £4 per hot chocolate. When we queried the replacement biscuit we were told that the gingerbreads had run out but we would have liked to have known this at the time of ordering as Oreo biscuits are not to our taste. Have to say the waitress’s apology was at best lukewarm.
On the grand scale of things this is hardly the end of the world but had the establishment just up the road had indoor seating, we would not have chanced on this eaterie. Therefore you might expect that the Village would capitalise on this.
As a final point, the staff (mostly very young) appeared to be getting ready to go home (this was at 4.30pm) and in fact a young boy was sweeping the floor around the tables whilst people were eating.
Needless to say we shall not be returning.

Visited on a Sunday. It was very busy, too busy for them to take my coffee order but not my sister's 2 mins before me. Glad I couldn't order anything because they messed up her order and the coffee and tea were so weak they were thrown away

We called in by chance, and wasn’t disappointed
We decided on a lightly snack lunch of panini and a side of double dipped chips. Which was absolutely delicious. The food had flavour and well presented.
The staff were friendly and welcoming to all who entered. And the service was spot on by Jess .
The place itself was clean and well set out (given the measures in place)
Keep up the good work everyone.

Visited for Sunday lunch and had a terrible experience, shown to our table with 1 menu between 3 people.
Placed our order and received our drinks with no issues, however the same can not be said for the food.
Waited a while for our food, which wouldn’t have been a problem if it had all arrived at the same time. I waited 10 minutes for my food whilst the rest of my party had almost finished their food. When it did eventually arrive I had to return as it was cold!
We ordered soup and a sandwich, the soup arriving 10 minutes after the sandwich.
The chicken burger was very average and arrived with a small portion of cold chips.
The cottage pie arrived with very hard cold side vegetables and the pie itself was just crushed potato in a very strong tasting sauce, never saw any mince.
Very disappointed and expected far better for the price they charge.
Would not recommend and will not visiting again - stay clear!

We visited today after our dog walk. We order burgers, sandwiches and a kids meal, with 1 coffee juices and milk with the kids meal.
They came with the drinks quite quickly and forgotten the milk for the kids meal. My grandson drank it and said it tastes funny We tastes and the milk was off. My daughter had a cappuccino and her milk was the same in her coffee too. We returned them, the kids that were serving made a few suggestion like oh it is the way the milk was sreamed, so why was the cold mill like that too.....
They replaced the drinks and we waited for our food.
Well the food wasn't much better. Chips were all ends and fat soaked (see pic) chicken burger was very thin and tastless and the beef burger wasn't much better.
We didn't wait for the kids ice cream
Over all it was very over priced, over £50 for 3 adult luches and a kids meal with drinks and nowhere near the level expected for the price.

My partner and I called in here for a coffee while we were visiting blakemere. We were seated straight away by very friendly staff. We decided the menu was so good we would eat too. We had the blakemere burger (one on gluten free bap) it came with a bucket of home cooked chips and coleslaw. The burger was homemade and was delicious. We had 2 lattes with our meal which came with warm milk to top them up. We were extremely happy with everything we ordered and the prices were just as good. The staff were excellent too. Very happy and very helpful and polite. Emma was called in to help at the last minute and was the first time she had worked there, and I have to say she did an amazing job. Lovely and chatty, made sure we were OK and that we were happy with everything. Thanks Emma. Hope you get a full time job there you deserve it. Thanks to all the staff and compliments to the chef. 100% will return

Awful breakfast. Ordered three breakfast barms they arrived on thin sliced bread that looked stale. When asked why they weren’t barms the reply was ‘we haven’t got any’. They came to take payment as soon as they brought our drinks which makes me wonder if they knew how bad it was.
We went there as a Sunday morning treat and was the worst experience. Will never return.
